Dutch band 'Focus' with 'Hocus Pocus' . Hadn't heard it in years until it was used in an advert for the World Cup in South Africa (2010) . Huge hit back in the day . Yodeling meets rock

If you like a good yodel, try this Australian effort from 1994 on for size:

'Blood , Sweat & Tears' won a Grammy for this huge 1969 hit . Quite an uplifting song .

From 'Wiki' ...

"Spinning Wheel" is the title of a popular song from 1969 by the band Blood, Sweat & Tears. The song was written by band member and Canadian musician David Clayton-Thomas and appears on their self-titled album.

Clayton-Thomas was quoted as describing the song as being "written in an age when psychedelic imagery was all over lyrics...(i)t was my way of saying, 'Don't get too caught up, because everything comes full circle'

Here's one of 'Chicago's' big hits . Not a big story behind this song but this quote from 'Robert Lamm' (one of 'Chicago's' founding members) does take you into the songwriters mind .

Lamm himself says that the title is "just a reference to the time of day," and that "the song is about writing a song. It's not mystical." The time of day in reference is 3:35 AM (or 3:34 AM), which would then be 25 (or 26) minutes to 4 AM

Given what's transpired in Season 2012 and now in FA/Trade period, I thing this is apt for this point in time...I just hope it lasts: -

'The Average White Band' with 'Pick up the Pieces' . This song is still used occasionally in the States for their sporting promo's and highlights . Hailing from Scotland their music is a mix of rock , funk and R&B . (yes, they're still kicking around)

I saw them live at London's Roundhouse in Chalk Farm at their peak in 1974/75... and to my mind they were pretty much as described in their name...average.

Perth Band 'Eskimo Joe' released this song a few years ago . They wrote the song in memory of Heath Ledger (the band were in New York when Heath tragically passed away) . Heath was also from Perth .

From wiki ...

It had just started snowing. It was a magical moment. That night we had to do this Australia gig, and when we got to it we found out that Heath Ledger had died. He'd died two blocks from where I was walking and at the time I was walking and it started snowing. He was from Perth and we were in New York, this big foreign city, and I felt this immense loneliness of this kid from my hometown dying by himself there.

I can't seem to stop listening to this song by Matt Corby. I believe he was in Australian Idol or something similar a few years ago. The song did pretty well in Triple J's Hottest 100 from memory too.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
