I just watched some of Coachella on YouTube...

I'm not a fan of big shows, would rather more intimate affairs.

However, Benson Boon (never heard of him before) was impressive.

It was a massive performance/show, only caught the last few songs but the penultimate was 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (not really a Queen fan either). He covered. the vocal & theatrics beautifully, big choir onstage, was wondering how the guitar player was going to cover May's parts (she could play by the way) then May elevates up through the stage...

Impressive...

I haven't been through the previous pages, so apologies if it's been posted already.

Win lose or draw, I may have to indulge in a few tasty beverages. Here's hoping for a win.

Firstly, one of the better opening tracks and a real party starter (back in the day!)

Followed by another track that is now used by the BBC as an introduction to their F1 coverage

I’ve got to say that Fleetwood Mac pretty much died for me from the moment that Peter Green exited. They became a very good MOR band, but for me had none of the excitement and originality in their music, that the original band had.

4 to 5 years can make such a difference with regards to what we appreciate in a band. For instance, I loved (and still love) a lot of the music from the early 60's to the early 70's but primarily the hits from that time

I was too young to be into alternative bands or even progressive rock from that time. Just the hits

So the first music from Fleetwood Mac that I got into was the Rumours album. I'd heard of them of course but didn't know a lot about their earlier music

I remember years ago we had a similar conversation about Steely Dan ... you were into their early music whilst I got on board with Aja & The Royal Scam in the mid 70's

Yes, I can see where you’re coming from as Rumours was the biggest album in the year it was released, and is probably the beginning of the band’s popularity with people who had had little to no exposure to the original band.

I don’t object to the album, but it just doesn’t do it for me like the original band with Peter Green, who I consider to be one of the greatest blues/rock guitarists to walk this earth 😉

It’d be pretty boring if we all had the same taste.

Wow!! I think I need to crawl out from under this rock (of illness) I’ve been living under, and experience more music, rather than being comfortable with my tired old playlists!!

I hadn’t previously heard any of these people before, but each of them is stunningly good and I’ll be listening a whole lot more from now on! Thanks so much for posting them!!

That Kyle Brew song (God’s Plan) for some reason reminds me of a song I’ve heard before, but that’s not a put down… it’s a lyrically and musically brilliant piece of work! And his guitar playing is so good… maybe the fact that just last night I’d watched ‘A Complete Unknown’, had triggered something in me, that made me watch and listen more closely?

Watty Thompson…who is he and where did he come from?? That was seriously one of the best live performances I have heard in a long time (how the hell did he manage all of those people on stage… a coordinator’s nightmare)… the introduction to the song got me REALLY listening, and then the lyrics he was singing and the music that accompanied them, simply had me in tears! Seriously! Really in tears.

I did love the Marlon Williams song, but coming after the first two songs seemed to lessen its affect on me. Perhaps it was spoiled somewhat by the perfect production, following on from the rough and readiness of those other two songs that seemed to ooze authenticity,?… I don’t know. But I did love it regardless.. those harmonies were breathtakingly beautiful.

First time I heard Kyle play that I went looking for the original afterwards as I felt I knew it, couldn't believe it was an original and not a cover. It's weird how it makes you feel like that.

Watty was about in rock bands forever around Melbourne before he moved to his bush balladeer persona. The live shows are something else, bloody powerful stuff, and so real and relatable.

I was listening to someone talk about streaming music and how people were turning to CDs due to compression, artists re-recording material and pitch correction on the streaming catalogues. It made me wonder what is everyone's set up for listening to music? I have a fair collection of CDs that I haven't used for years and have half a mind to buy a second hand amp, CD changer and speaker set up. Streaming is easy and so accessible but I do miss listening to albums.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Mick Ralphs, guitarist for Mott the Hoople and Bad Company. He was the first cousin of the guitarist, Steve Ralphs, in my first Sydney band, The Tenants. Apparently he’d been very ill since 2016, so it didn’t come as a surprise to those close to him.

The extraordinary Lisa Fischer...a truly remarkable artist.

An old friend of mine used to work in a bar in London. He had a regular that he knew as Peter from the roads (worked with the road repair crew)...His boss said one day, do you know who Peter is...that's Peter Green.

It's sad what happened to him and he never got his due recognition outside of rusted on old music fans & musicians like ourselves.

Yes, that’s really sad… I believe he first became a grave digger when he gave up music. I heard a story (urban myth or true?) that he once went to visit his former manager armed with a gun, and threatened to shoot him if he didn’t stop sending royalties cheques.

A friend of mine Peter Head (had a band in the 70’s called Headband - supported the Stones at Randwick Racecourse), did a bit of playing with Peter Green in early 70’s London… I recommend his book Headonism that was launched last week.

Reason I am missing the game this weekend is to see these lads, last saw them in 2005
