Metro Solar

I have received a quote from Metro Solar. Good discount for MFC members at the mo and the best deal around.

Anyone installed solar power at home? Is it saving you on your electricity bills (which seem to keep rising and rising).

Any thoughts on this one would be appreciated.

Yes I was happy with the quote and placed order which is now in train. Club picks up a couple of hundred I think.

No as they are to closely aligned with the gold coast suns.

Yes I have solar power my last two bills have worked out at $2.95 a day for electricity and i'd say we are a normal household in power usage so i'd say go for it it will save you

The magic words once your solar is operational are "Premium Feed-In Tariff". Well, that and the other two words "shop around".

Agree the premium tarriff is important , by my calculations using CPI power increases and our useage capital payback should be 5 - 7 years with a 3k system.

Two more important words 'support sponsors'.

If they support the Gold Coast Suns as well thats nice.

It's a co-incidence that I chose Metro back in Feb this year prior to them becoming a Dees sponsor.

I got in before the Gov. subsidy finished on July 1st.

I did have one hiccup, but netherless I would recommend Metro if you are thinking of going solar.

I envisage my payback period being about 4 years.

You can read of my experience here

No as they are to closely aligned with the gold coast suns.

Are they? (You're not thinking of Metricon?)

And so what?

They're one of our sponsors.

Seems incredibly stupid to not support a CLUB SPONSOR based on the premise that they are "closely aligned" with another club.

The thinking here makes no sense.

I have been thinking about going solar for a while and I got a quote from Metro a month or two back but haven't got around to doing anything about it. But it just so happened that I started to revisit it again yesterday so this thread is very opportune. I was wondering of others experiences with Metro Solar and their products they use. A quick check yesterday showed that the panels I was quoted on (Mono Crystalline panels manufactured in China by NESL) were reasonable quality. They quoted on a 3kw system (with 16 190 watt panels) which should almost cover our average bill and after a quick look at other pricing, Metro seemed to come in just under (with the MFC discount). We have recently had a Smart Meter installed so I was wondering if this is the "Bidirectional smart meter" that they refer to in the quote. I must get around to calling them again... but also would be interested in hearing of other peoples experiences with Metro and solar installs overall.

Cheers, S.

Did you read my post above, specifically the info I provided here?

No PV panels are manufactured in Oz - the all come from China as far as I'm aware.

Metro use panels and inverters from SunnyRoo who are based in Byron Bay.

My mate, who is in the trade, said he couldn't match the price quoted by Metro.

I spent ages researching the subject, getting quotes etc. and I doubt that you'll do better than Metro.

From what I can calculate, you will have paid for your system in 4-5 years, regardless of what size you get.

And BTW, expect to wait at least 4 months for your sytem to be installed and connected to the grid. If you already have a smart meter that may decrease your delay.

The green power company installed my solar power system at a far better price than metro solar offered.

Well I hope you donated some of the saving to the club.

Thanks M9. Have also read your blog. Really useful and valuable info. I am going to do it. Thanks again.

Hi M_9,

Many thanks for all those details. I did read your blog and it allayed some of my concerns as did your post above. My quote actually has the inverter as a Growatt (which they say is manufactured in China as well) as they originally installed for you. Lets hope it the newer version that doesn't intefere with AM (need to listen to SEN).

Now seriously considering spending the $$$s to get this. Should have done it prior to the rebate but just so long as the feed in rate doesn't change. I heard mention that it is guaranteed for 15 years. Is that whet you have been told?

Cheers, S.

From Energy Matters: 'The tariff will only be available until a total capacity of systems participating reaches 100 megawatts total capacity'

I suspect that Vic is getting very close to, or may have exceeded that limit.

You may find then that the premium tariff will still exist, but will drop to 40c or thereabouts.

Getting back to thread topic, I think if you are considering solar then Metro, who happen to be an MFC sponsor, are as good as anyone, and from my research (whirlpool forums etc), better than most as regards cost and quality of product.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
