yupp. when the pain stops...and our seasonal delusional festivities start. Oh we'll have this player and that one and all the little ducks will swim in a row and we can eat fairy bread. Life will be so much better next year :)

And I have severe misgivings about Jamar, Evans, Spencer, Blease, Watts, Strauss, Pedersen, Tynan, Dunn and Tapscott.

Half the team.

maurie i think you have it nailed I don't agree with a couple of your selections but basically you are correct.

Half our squad is not AFL standard.

It is that simple.

We are the worst side in the competition.

So as night follows day it must mean we have a poor list.

How would you feel if instead of:

Petterd, Weetra, Morton, Maric, Cheney, Watts, Blease, Strauss, Bennell, Jetta, Bail, Gysberts, Tapscott, Cook and Davis

we had:

Tippett, Goldsack, Rioli or Dangerfield, Mayne, Bird, Hartlett, Hill, Ballantyne, Hannebery, Sloane, Walters, Savage, Lewis Jetta, Fyfe, Darling and Puopolo.

They were all taken after our respective picks.

Plus we could have got LeCras with the pick we traded for Paul Johnson, and Andrew Swallow with the pick we traded for Byron Pickett.

We've been 'Prendergasted', and it will take years to overcome.

la la la la la ......not listening Maurie !!!

damning isnt it :(

Maurie you have put in good players and it makes it look very bad, but you have left out poor picks of other clubs too. Our problem is we made mostly bad picks as opposed to others who got a few gems.

I forgot to add Jetta to my delistings.

As to your list of additional delistings: " Jamar, Evans, Spencer, Blease, Watts, Strauss, Pedersen, Tynan, Dunn and Tapscott", I would trade, Jamar and Tapscott. Blease and Watts would need good deals or I would keep them as in an improved side they could be very good. Both are good finishers and have pace, something we have very little of. Clearly Blease needs to get fit and Watts needs to get more physical at the contest.

Spencer is improving and IMO has gone past Jamar, Evans has ability, Strauss is improving, Pedersen is versatile and will be the Sellar replacement if there are a few injuries, Dunn is versatile, Tynan needs another year.

We could easily move on up to 15 players.

I know that ... the old perennial is Richmond's choice of Tambling at #4 over Franklin at #5. (The Rules of this thread also forbid me from suggesting Martin or Rohan over $omeone else!)

I can weather failed recruiting of a few picks. But not 75% of our list over the last 8 years.

Clearly, some of the players on your list and mine might be an OK bottom-end of a team in the 8. But they're not top-end or even middle of a team aspiring to be in the 8.

I also wonder about 'spine theory' versus 'engine-room theory'. It seems to have started from as long ago as Daniher. We seem to have a put lot of resources (and subsequent misses) into building a premiership winning 'goal-to-goal line' or 'spine', and not much into the midfield engine room. That our total good midfield after 8 years of a multitude of first-round draft picks is Nathan Jones (plus Jack Viney now) is a disgrace.

I'm getting tired of the continual requirement to move on up to a dozen NQR players every year. The recruiting has just got to start getting better and more strongly emphasise a hard midfield.

Don't get me started on our recruiting, as most on here know my absolute disdain and disgust for the performance of Prendergast. IMO he is the single most damaging appointment, made in this club's recent history and I include MN.

IMO Prendergast was a total failure.

We can all reel off the names. I just can't see a bigger failure than Cook at 12 in recent draft history. So many other good picks were wasted by him. If he had only selected 3 mids, now playing good football at other clubs, instead of some of his picks, I would not be so harsh. He must have had about 24-30 picks and has only a few players of any worth among them.

That said, we know a lot of our players aren't up to it and the only way to get better, is to move them on and replace them. Also to get a good coaching panel and a good player development program.

Not much point having a shiny car with all the trimmings, fluffy dice included if the donk under the bonnet is just carp!! That seems to be the model the MFC used to build a team.

Nice bookends and goes nowhere

I am finding it very very hard to disagree with one word from the above Redleg.

Every talks about Richmond and the Tambling - Buddy disaster.

But at least Tambling could justify a position in an AFL taem and played a lot of games.

Cook did not play one single game and never got near one game.

Oh stop I was not going to mention him.

It was just so much worse with Cook.

After no games in 2 years we delist him. Not one club even rookied him. That is how bad his selection was.

I remember CC telling me on draft night, at a club function, before the draft that we wouldn't take Talia, but instead would take Gysberts and then Tapscott. I recall WJ and me being stunned at the news. I actually remember nearly arguing with him, but because he was telling me what Prendergast was doing I was in no position, to argue, given my limited knowledge.

If only I was the recruiting manager, I would have done better, only by using the info from Demonland and nothing else. At worst we would have Talia in our defence today and probably another midfielder instead of Gysberts or Tapscott. That is how bad Prendergast was.

It also didn't help, that when I met him a couple of times, I found him to be an arrogant, rude, pr1ck.

Not putting down your talents Redleg but it is hard to believe anyone could have done a worst job and he got paid for it.
