Some people compare the MFC to the Kangas....Please, we are back home with the MCC and were 70 odd years old before North Joined the VFL.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds..

Much of this thread rests on the side of a pissing contest devoid of facts or proper perspective.

Very well put 45.

The Facts are North are heavily in debt, with a small supporter base, are relying on AFL payments, but have the least pulling power in the new Broadcast rights deal.

They are a worry to us all.

That's MFC 3 years ago. We got rid of the debt thanks to the generousity of supporters and have all the traits you are critical of are elements of MFC.

Refer 45's post if you can see the connection.

I would think North are safe for the length of the next TV rights agreement. The AFL will be contracted to provide 18 teams.

So North has that amount of time (til 2017?) to get their house in order. The AFL will prop them up until then at least.

After that? Gloves off?

2017 is a long time to prop up a business nobody really wants, this what worries me. Who is going to pick up the Tab, when the GC & GWS are far more in the AFL Radar.

North Could have been the GC side, they walked away, and i do understand why. But can they afford it.

Will their supporters turn up to games and pay off the debt rather than just yell & scream on SEN talkback (which i love hearing BTW!!!)

Where would they relocate to?

I'm not sure Darwin could support an AFL team, neither could Ballarat.

The only option is Tasmania (albeit a good one for them).

Would Perth be able to handle a 3rd AFL team..?

How about another amalgamation with Brisbane.

3 million loss last year 5-6 players of AFL standard,

NO CEO and none on the horizon.

north has a good CEO and their players would bolster the lions,

You never know it might make the Brisbane /Fitzroy / North team a finals contender!

Worried about the jumper and emblem though not sure how we get all that to work out.

Perhaps they could play as the Lions in Brisbane and the Roos away!

Then in another 10 years we could send the failed GWS venture up there as they will need another rescue by then.

maybe mods might merge these two Roos threads ?? make it easier lol

we were never that bad and we have come back from it

also we have had a terrible few years on-field which obviously doesnt help

when we become a regular finals side I gaurantee you we will be above average in both stats

are they up to it?

Like your optimism but your kidding yourself if you think we weren't in a similar situation 3 years ago. If you've ever listened to Schwab speak about it you would

realise that the club came perilously close to folding (assuming the AFL allowed it). Our major advantage/difference to North is a slightly larger supporter base that will turn up when we're winning.

We had one very big advantage .... our heritage as founder of the game ( and developer of the ground)[ Oh... and throw in an amazing Irishman]

Actually our biggest advantage ?

We're not them !!

well I've already said a number of times we were 8th in attendances despite finishing only 12th so that would make us above average in terms of our 'turn-upishness'

when we are soon having top-of-the-table clashes with Collingwood and Hawthorn we will have gigantic crowds

we're not North Melbourne, stop telling me we are

Re-signing the alignment with the MCC is the Massive difference between The MFC and the Kangaroos.

Yes we did hit almost rock bottom and were not far off being out of existence, But having the opportunity to be with the MCC can only help us with sponsorship and business plans. It maybe a mere letterhead but it puts us miles ahead of North in the corporate world (as long as it is used wisely).

It shall be more interesting to see the Gap between the two clubs in 5 years.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
