Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

CHANGES 2010 - AND NOW FOR THE ROOKIES by The Oracle

Much of the limelight from the perspective of club recruitment in the AFL naturally centres on the National Draft. Melbourne's four draft picks have been well documented. The selection of four draftees all of them young and tall, over 190cm was a surprise to many but the icing on the cake was the revelation last week that young Jack Viney has agreed to come on board when eligible as a father/son pick in 2012.

The club's senior list has now been finalised as it made no further changes in its List Lodgement Three which therefore rules out a selection in the Pre Season Draft. The list now looks like this:-

SENIOR LIST:

Rohan Bail Clint Bartram Matthew Bate Jamie Bennell Sam Blease Lucas Cook Aaron Davey Troy Davis Lynden Dunn Jack Fitzpatrick James Frawley Colin Garland Max Gawn Jack Grimes Jordan Gysberts Jeremy Howe Mark Jamar Neville Jetta Nathan Jones Liam Jurrah Joel Macdonald Addam Maric Stefan Martin Tom McDonald Brent Moloney Cale Morton Ricky Petterd Jared Rivers Tom Scully James Strauss Colin Sylvia Luke Tapscott Jack Trengove Matthew Warnock Jack Watts Austin Wonaeamirri

VETERAN LIST Brad Green

ROOKIE LIST:

Michael Newton plus Rookie Draft selections 14, 31, 48, 63, 76 and 84.

This year's Pre Season and Rookie Drafts take place next Tuesday.

The former has attracted so few of the clubs that the entire operation should be over in less than a minute. I don't expect many surprises and, indeed, the only matter to reflect upon when it's over will probably be whether this draft will continue much further into the future. Various draft rules changes over the years have wiped the gloss off the attractiveness of the PSD and only six clubs have opted to take part this year.

For the record, the Herald Sun predicts the following PSD selections:-

1. Gold Coast - Cameron Pederson (Box Hill)

2. West Coast - Tim Houlihan (West Coast)

3. Richmond - Bachar Houli (Essendon)

4. Essendon - Jay Neagle (Essendon)

5. Hawthorn - Cameron Bruce (Melbourne)

6. Fremantle - John Anthony (Collingwood)

If two redrafted players and a 31 year-old is the best that this draft can produce and less than half of the clubs take part, then the death knells are certainly tolling.

The Rookie Draft that follows carries far more interest for dedicated football fans who understand its growing importance. This should be evident for all and sundry in an era where the skipper of the reigning premier is a former rookie lister. Retiring Melbourne captain James McDonald and All Australian Mark Jamar were both originally rookies and the Demons would no doubt be well satisfied with this year's upgrades from those ranks in Jordie McKenzie and Jake Spencer.

Some other current AFL players whose careers started on the rookie list are Matthew Boyd (Western Bulldogs), Aaron Sandilands (Fremantle), Dean Cox (West Coast), Brad Sewell (Hawthorn), Andrew Carrazzo (Carlton) and Collingwood premiership player Jarryd Blair.

The Rookie Draft is bolstered this year by the fact that so few recycled players were taken in November's National Draft and the fact that it's now open slather on mature age rookies. There's also a lot more interest in players from state leagues and other competitions following the success of players such as Michael Barlow, James Podsiadly and Alex Silvagni in 2010.

The other point of interest is that the Rookie Draft will feature Kevin Sheedy's Greater Western Sydney Giants for the first time. They have the first eight selections and are expected to take some of the more reasoned retreads to help give their otherwise very youngish initial side which competes next year in the new North East Australia competition a kick along.

Melbourne's first selection is at fourteen and I wouldn't hazard a guess as to who that will be but perhaps the AFL's Permission to Train List might be a pointer. The Demons have six rookie spots available but can defer a selection until after the NAB Cup.

There are more changes to come!

Players in bold were elevated to seniors in the year of drafting. Nathan Bassett was injured after being elevated and did not play a senior game for the MFC. He was subsequently traded to Adelaide where he had a long career with the Crows.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
