And now Purdy has his best throw for the game

Packers get the ball back after the 49ers fail to capitalise ... 9:37 to play

Jones gets into the backfield with a great run.  Need to take advantage

I just knew we'd miss that FG attempt.  Errors creeping in for both teams

Credit to Purdy there ... marched his team down the field with a TD as a result

Both teams have missed a field goal attempt so an even score there

game over. Great effort from the Packers. had the opportunities but couldn't convert. they be a force in years to come.

49ers found a way. This game will stand to them. They're my pick for the SB.

So Love tries the Brett Favre special and it's game over.  Could have thrown the ball away but no risk, no reward

Put up a great effort did the Packers but the 49ers just a bit too good on the night

As for Jordan Love, his 2nd half was forgettable and he might have a few sleepless nights mulling over what could have been.

Loads of potential but he's not that good (yet) First year as a starter so it's still too early to tell where he might progress to

Still, you often learn more from a loss and GB need to keep working on areas not involving the QB passing the ball

To be a true contender we need a top-level running game (Jones needs help) and the run-defence needs to be top-notch as well.  Currently the Packers are 15th in rushing yards and 28th in rush defence (The McCaffrey TD was scored too easily in my opinion)

But to make the playoffs and win a playoff game and then run the 49ers close was a grand effort for such a young team

So the 49ers get a visit from either Detroit or Tampa next week.  Should win but there are no guarantees in this sport.  However, whatever rust the 49ers might have had is now out of their system

And I reckon the Ravens won't have it all their way no matter who they play.  KC & the Bills are more than capable

A great game for the public, for the fans involved maybe not so much with heart rates going up like odometers. Still, another classic encounter in Packers-49ers post season history.

Green Bay came to play, the weather was something they are used to and they hit the ground running with yards on the ground. All week I was banging on about defending runs outside the tackles and how losing Clelin Ferrell was going to hurt and this was evident with Jones early. I thought LeFleur outcoached Shanahan in this game. Kyle went pass heavy early in the rain and I'm sure CMC had touched the ball maybe twice in the first quarter and a half. These weird calls happen so often with Kyle and I never understand it. Purdy can not seem to throw at all in the wet. He made two brilliant throws when it counted but I counted at least 8 throws that were no-where near the receiver. The Packers didn't commit any PI penalties but it sure is easy to do that when the ball is not even in the post code you're in. I will say Green Bay brought excellent pressure on Purdy all game. Rashan Gary and co have had a great season.

It was just a very tough game and the Niners kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and big kick off returns when it looked like they could have been turning the tide. Ambrey Thomas had a nightmare and LaFleur picked up on this as he targeted him consistently. Late in the game we started to get pressure on Love and eventually got the turnover we needed. It was just enough in the end.

A win is a win but the confidence took a little dip after that. Deebo could be in trouble with that shoulder and there are others playing banged up. Fingers are crossed that there are no more rainy games. Purdy will have the wet weather choker tag until he can work well in those conditions. For the Packers they definitely should hold their head up high. Balled out all game and very nearly took it out. I thought Jordan Love started quite well but unfortunately made those mistakes later on. I really enjoy watching this guy play. He moves well on his feet and evades pressure, makes all kinds of throws (That one to Jaylen Reed in the flat before the half was incredible). I've said it before but I'm a fan of Jordan Love and I would probably prefer him to Purdy. His all round arm ability is just better, he'll learn heaps from this game and the Packers have a Franchise QB once again by the look of it. Green Bay also have a swag of young talent there, can see them going one better next year with some good additions and a healthy AJ Dillon.

3s to go til the half, Lions are looking better than Buccs, but the Buccs are starting to look a little better, and the FG hits the upright… 3-10 lions way.

Huge play by the Buccs with 1:19 left in the half, 90 yard drive and we are tied!

Evans was great.

That was some drive by Mayfield  at the end of the half.

Superb Bucs drive to tie things up just before halftime.

Game on.

Mayfield has surprised me today. Another great drive when it was badly needed.

This game is nicely poised. Going to be a great second half.

Bills miss the FG and the chiefs win it.

Mahomes is an unbelievable player. I won't be surprised if he rolls the ravens next week.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round.
