Seattle can count themselves lucky that their starting QB was a cheap rookie. I'd imagine Winfield is on peanuts as it's probably his last year. A fit and behaved Harvin will only add to their offence. He can return punts for TD's and a screen pass can turn into a long TD. They will be exciting to watch this year. I wonder if they will rack up 50 point wins again?

They picked up Avril as well who would be on a fair bit of coin. Hopely not too much in the way of guaranteed money in the latter parts of a few of these contracts. The problem with guys on relatively cheap first contracts is that they then want to make up for it with bigger than normal second contracts. Still a good problem to have rather than picking up duds. With Harvin now you would think that they would be even more potent. I really like their secondary now. Browner, Sherman, your ex guy and that top safety whose name escapes me. On paper they look like they could give it a real shake.

Looking at the Rams schedule and I'm struggling to find a lot of wins in it......another long season I reckon.

Bradford needs to stand up and take the game by the scruff of the neck and bring us up a level.

The draft will be interesting to see which way we go.

It does look tough mate, although I'm not that familiar with your roster, so I'm not sure exactly how tough.

With us the loss of Jackson and Amendola could be huge, really depends on how the new guys in do, I think we signed some good players in areas we need, now to get a few class rookies.

I'd love a great running back.

You seem to have gone a bit high risk, high reward with your FA's. If Long can get back to his pre-injury standard he will be a great pickup. Cook could actually help alleviate the loss of Amendola, as he is actually more of a receiver than a traditional tight end.He is a very athletic guy. Just a really tough time to be in your division with the Seahawks and Niners. I loathe the Niners by the way so I hope your guys kick their butts lol. My apologies to any Niner fans on the forum, but the eighties was a very awkward time for me being all arms and legs and you guys didn't help.

Pretty deep draft for backs condemned so you should be able to pick up a solid one, although the class does lack that wow factor.

Agree on your comments, Amendola was a great receiver, but spent more time injured than not.

Jackson wasn't a flashy wow factor RB, just made solid yardage. I'll be stoked if Long can get back done form.

Yeah typical SF and Seattle are going well as we try to build

As funny as it sounds, I actually prefer playing in our division facing the Ravens and Steelers right now. The Niners and Seahawks look tough. That comment will now come back to bite me as we will now go 0-4 against them lol.

Can't wait for the draft. IQ ready to go.

We did have the best record out of our division against the other 3, pity we could not beat some of the others :)

Condemned 84, that wasnt you I spotted in M15 last week with a Bradford top on at the Dees-Giants game was it? Certainly someone near me had a Rams top on!

Yeah that would have been me :P

I wasn't confident of a win so I left the Melbourne jumper at home ha ha

Big move by the rams they acquired pick 8 and got WR Tavon Austin.

Raiders give away pick 3 to Miami for 12 and 42. Raiders must have the same amount of confidence in their recruiting department as Melbourne does.

Forgive the Melbourne supporter in me when I get a little jumpy that our #1 pick was considered a "mild surprise". Need to get the Fat Albert deal done now.

I didn't mind the move mate. Just keep him away from the nasty Seahawks secondary lol. What probably did surprise me was Macca's mob giving up so much to get Patterson.

Pretty happy with the Bengals pick. Possibly because I'm biased and love the thought of two tight end sets. To me it really helps if you have a QB with questionable arm strength as we do. I may change my view on this if we don't pick up a safety, rb and right tackle with our two 2nd round and our 3rd round pick lol Scratch the tackle if we can re-sign our own big boy.

Don't worry mate a number of the mild surprises turn out pretty well.

I was happy with that, def need WR, happy with Ogletree too, we need agile linebackers to deal with the agile QB's and backs in our div.

Now to get the RB.

Do you mean my mob the vikings getting Patterson? I'm happy we got him. Yeah we traded out a lot but we desperately needed a WR. 3 First round picks sounds pretty good but we need to snag a linebacker and I honestly thought pick 29 from the Pats would have been used on Te'o. A DT that at one point was talked up as a top 10 pick. Plus a physical Corner back and a Wide receiver second to Austin sounds good on paper.

Didn't Washington get Alfred Morris in the 6th round last year? There are always quality RB's out there and they come cheap in the draft.

A lot of them are still there, we still have a lot of picks.

Look forward to seeing what happens over the next rounds.

Packers picked up DE Datone Jones. Anyone know much about him?

'cfh', they're saying that the Vikes have done very well with your 3 picks. All ready to go?

Don't mind me senile. At least I got the right division lol. Somehow I even mucked up who condemned supported. Honestly can't explain it. Even confused what I thought the Vikings gave the Pats. Somehow I thought the Vikings gave up 2 2nds a 3rd and a 4th.

Wasn't on the grog or on any illicit substances, despite seemingly evidence to the contrary. The Bengals did take Eifert though, I didn't imagine that in my twilight zone did I?

I'll try again. My most surprising pick was Manuel to the Bills. Surely he wasn't that better than the other QB's to take him that high. I really can't see anyone else who would have taken him before the seond round.

Ha ha ! Suppose if the Bills really wanted him and were committed then they may have felt compelled to grab him with pick 16. They may not have been confident of him being available by the time their next pick was up (pick 48?)

Just a quick heads up on who supports who here (from memory) With apologies to anyone I've missed ...

Thanks mate, It was pretty idiotic of me. I think because I had been talking with Condemned for a few days about his Rams, that I thought I was still talking to him rather than Cowboy. Still doesn't explain me confusing the details of the Vikings trade or committing the unforgivable sin of confusing who divisional rivals support lol. I was just imagining if someone labeled me a Raven, Brown or Steeler....

Welcome aboard Strafford. Yeah if Austin is still there we will take him or Keenan Allen but I can't see them slipping to us.

Interesting to see Allen went middle of the third. On tape both looked like first rounders. Just goes to show the impact that the combine and pro days can have. Austin flew up the boards and Allen dropped like a stone, but looks like good value if healthy. Given our interesting convo on the Vikings, I just can't undertand how I crossed my wires. Frankly it is a bit of a worry lol

Pretty happy with the Bengals draft so far.

Eifert for reasons I ironically discussed with Cowboy on the previous page, pairing him with Rudolph, also works with us and Gresham. Eifert doesn't seem to be the greatest with yac, but man the hands. Also a much improved blocker.

Giovanni Bernard, Gio. Can catch, good but not great speed, but can find the holes and make people miss. Great returner. Not the greatest blocker, but if we can work on that he could end up a three down back.

Hunt the DE great athlete, but as you would expect due to his background has a lot to learn about football. Another great special teamer. I think it indicates we have accepted that we will lose one of our two talented DE's, Dunlap and MJ, at the end of next season. With Peko already and big contracts coming up for Atkins, Dunlap and MJ, we just can't afford to invest so much cap space in our defensive line. Which for us is a shame.

Williams the safety. Another Georgia bulldog we have a few lol The opposite of a few of the safeties we have now who are tall athletes. Williams has great football instincts, but isn't the greatest athlete. If we could just put Williams brain in Mays body we would have a great SS. Another worry for us is that at times Georgia were really awful at stopping the run. To me that also applies to all the teams taking members of that star studded Georgia defensive unit.

Our special teams co-ordinator will be very happy. As they are learning the ropes of their primary positions Gio and Hunt will be huge in special teams.

With the re-signing of Smith we seem to have covered our needs. Fingers crossed that their faith in our current linebackers is justified. Rey at mlb struggled at times.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?
Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG. Unfortunately, performances like these went against the grain of what Melbourne has been producing from virtually midway through 2024 and extending right through to the present day. This is a game between two clubs who have faltered over the past couple of years because their disposal efficiency is appalling. Neither of them can hit the side of a barn door but history tells us that every once in a while such teams have their lucky days or come up against an opponent in even worse shape and hence, one of them will come up trumps in this match.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
