Hearing Eminem singing Lose Yourself took me straight back to the ‘G. Pregame nerves aplenty.

Hopefully that was just a stinger for Burrow. Want to see these two go at it till the end.

2 min warning. Can see Rams scoring but you never know. Plenty of twists and turns left.

Very pleased to see Kupp get MVP. Think he took the catches when they mattered most.

Man how good would this part of day be. Nearly 3pm in a Melbourne bar, boozing on, seeing the interviews in the background on tv with your teams players while shots are had. One day...

Well done @Gorgoroth….what a last 5 months or so for your teams. Enjoy it mate!

Well done Gorg!

Demons and now the Rams!

Hell, even the Bolton Wanderers could win big the way you're going!

Cheers guys, finally got some lunch, couldn’t eat during the game, now smoking a cigar and on the beers, called boss and have tomorrow off now too.

Thought we were shot when OBJ went down, up steps the D line, last drive Stafford who has been as good as anyone ever in the last qtr stood up and Kupp dominated.

Im still shaking from the last play by AD99. Thought Ramsey had cost us by trying to intercept that play to chase in the last.

Enjoy every bit of it my good man, doesn't come around often! Extremely good performance.

That Tyler Boyd dropped catch will haunt the bloke forever.  Apparently hadn't dropped a catch all season.  Golden rule ... catch it first before the hit comes.  After all, you're going to get hit whether you catch it or not

And Perine didn't make much of an effort on that final throw from Burrow (albeit a rushed throw) You've got to dive like Brayshaw did in the GF.  Make the play!

Still, the Rams ate up the clock on that fantastic final drive and were deserved winners ... led by Stafford with Kupp performing like a beast

The pass interference call on Kupp near the end was a bit soft but ... you don't give the referee a reason to blow the whistle.  However, do nothing and Kupp probably waltzes in for the TD anyway so the manhandling of Kupp might have been worth the risk

Rams too good!

The half time entertainment was fabulous ... loved it!  The Yanks sure know how to put on a show

Apparently the performers aren't payed a zac and have to pay (in full) any production costs

It's a badge of honour but worth heaps in further exposure re future earnings

Yeah Boyd hadn’t dropped a catch all year.

In hindsight I thought Petrine might have been able to make a play but looked flat footed.

Stafford in the last qtr is elite, the best. 14td/0int held both Niners and Bengals 20/0 in the last two 4th qtrs. Huge.

The pass int on Kupp is soft, but bright orange gloves and the chest piece moves slightly, but seems enough. Tbh, the play before Henderson was held in the same spot, they should have called that one. And don’t get me started on the Higgins/Ramsey non call.

I honestly think if OBJ doesn’t get injured we win comfortably and OBJ prob wins MVP.

I had OBJ for first TD (win!), Had him or MVP and also had OBJ to score first with Higgins second, so that Ramsey breakup cost me $505

Also thought that the Bengals were more than worthy opponents. Nearly all the playoff games were close with nail-biting finishes.  The post-season was great viewing all round from a contest point of view

Thought the Bengals, 49ers & Buffalo were the best of the rest ... a bright future for all 3 teams by the looks of it.  And the Patriots could be a real factor moving forward

Not sure on the Packers, Bucs, Cowboys, Arizona & Tennessee ... disappointing exits for all 5 teams and of course, Brady has retired from the Bucs anyway

Couldn't quite tell if he heard the footsteps or was already taking off, either way secure the football first. You don't forget those.

We've all had those moments, layzie ... I've had a couple, just at local level!  Equally, one can make amends and quite often the good moments outweigh the bad.

But you never forget the bad outcomes... they hover around like covid does now!

e.g. As great as the flag was last year not many of us can ever forget the '87 Preliminary final loss.  For those of us that witnessed it live, it just won't go away!

The '88 & 2000 GF losses hurt but we really were up against it from the start in both those GF's.  No disgrace there

In a final recap I thought this was an excellent Super bowl. Both teams really played their hearts out but the Rams class really did shine through in the end and the Bengals deficiencies end up being front of display case. There was a brief moment where Cincy were getting some ascendancy but the Rams D-Line absolutely wrestled that control back, Burrow was so uncomfortable in that second half.

It was heartbreaking to see OBJ go down as he was really threatening to take the game apart. Heard Eric Dickerson say had he not been injured the Rams would have absolutely torched the Bengals, it’s pretty hard to say they wouldn’t have scored more with him out there.

As mentioned I was happy to see Kupp get MVP. There was a fair case for Stafford but I really thought when the game was on the line and the catch had to be made Kupp was right there running those fabulous back shoulder routes he’s become known for. What a season from Kupp!

I just want to mention this D-line again! Donald and Miller, absolute beast mode. This game is not a simple one as we all know, but if there is any kind of secret sauce it’s probably this: Get a good QB, protect your QB, get to their QB. And these players than can do that are just worth their weight in gold.

As far as the Bengals go, they threw everything at it. I was very impressed with their defense and its ability to keep Cincy in the game, but when it all came down to it I thought the Bengals offense was just a little bit out of their depth. Joe Burrow is going to be a star no doubting that and he’s going to get another chance in this game providing Cincy can get a few more decent pieces around him.

Halftime show was incredible, best one I’ve seen in ages. My teenage self was in full flight! Great work by everyone involved to pull that together and I must say the stadium looks pretty amazing, would love to see a game there one day. More so than Levi if I’m being honest.

Thanks all for the chats guys, bring on free agency, bring on the draft, bring on a Niners QB controversy to chew the popcorn to 😝

We certainly have Macca, they never go away.

Those late 2000s/early 2010s Cats were great but I imagine that 08 Grand Final burns for a lot of them.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
