From memory these arrangements often start out this way but any change could happen quite quickly if the outcomes don't come up to expectations.

Win early and Goff has to wait ... but if you lose games early then Goff may well get fast-tracked.

Yeah hope so.  But its such a normal Rams thing to do.

Welcoming myself back for a new season.

And the Vikings go bang and trade something decent for Sam Bradford. Big move. Seems like they don't want to waste the year.

Probably good news for the Eagles as well. Bradford made no sense on that roster.

After completing 3 of 4 passes for 53 yards on the opening drive, he was a disturbing 3 of 12 for 14 yards with two turnovers on the final seven first-half possessions.

The Rams' quarterback of the future finished his first preseason 22 of 49 (44.9 percent) for 232 yards (4.73 yards per attempt), two touchdowns, two interceptions, three fumbles and a 55.8 passer rating.

Perhaps most telling, Goff has shown little awareness -- struggling with snaps, taking too many hits and failing to process at NFL speeds.

Only hope Fisher gets the sack week 2...

After watching Hard Knocks I've got a bit more respect for Fisher. Or at least let me put it this way, I understand why he keeps his job and finishes with 7 or 8 wins. He seems competent and certainly isn't Mark Neeld level of crud. That said he must surely be running out of time very soon.

Goff's preseason was rough and I think he was overdrafted by going number 1. I remember watching him against a decent Utah defense last year and they picked him off at will and he didn't play in a pro style offense.

That said, I'm still a fan of his. He makes all the throws. He's got the temperament. He's physically gifted. I don't think sitting him for a few games/few months/the whole year even will do him any harm.

Big win for the Eagles I reckon.. 1st rounder & 4th rounder is a lot for Bradford, maybe he'll go better in a new offense but his been fairly average at Philly. The Vikings were deseprate though so they had to do something, will be interesting to see how he goes

It's that time of year again ... NFL is back and with it, the 'time-honoured' tipping comp ... hopefully we get enough starters so as we can do it again but 5 or 6 or more participants should get the job done.

Rules of the 'Demonland' NFL tipping competition ... (the same as last year except a couple more bonus weeks have been added)

* All participants are allowed 3 picks only in any given week but they must all be 'road' teams ... and anyone who correctly tips all 3 winners from their 3 picks receives 1 point (any number of people can win a point in any given week)

* Bonus points are up for grabs in weeks 2, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 (2 points to all winners) whilst week 17 carries 3 points to any given winner.

* No margins or correct scores are required - just the straight winners.

* If you miss a week or come into the comp later on, there is no penalty. You just simply miss the chance to win points for that week or weeks. You can join in the comp at any time.

* Your tips must be in before the start of Monday's games (AEST) ... or before the Friday game if you include that game. All 3 tips must be included in your post (editing your tips is strictly forbidden :))

* The person (or persons) with the most points at the end of the regular season wins.

For those out there who just read this thread, feel free to join in the comp.  Putting your tips in usually takes a surprisingly small amount of time as there are normally a couple of obvious tips ... but those 'obvious' tips often have 'trap-game' attached to them

So get your tips in Ladies & Gents ... the season kicks off next Friday (our time) with a rematch of last year's Super Bowl - Carolina @ Denver.

Good man Macca... The season has rolled around quickly. Getting some college ball in today to get me in the mood. So glad it's almost back! On a side note, Sanchaz has been cut by Denver than picked up by Dallas...

I'm left wondering where the NFL will sit for us next year when the Demons are making a run at it in September

Re the college games ... every year I get a little more interested but usually reserve my interest for the big match-ups.  Losing for any of the top seeded teams can be diabolical with the record required to qualify for the top 4.  And there's been a few big upset wins already.

Yeah NFL might take a backseat once we start playing finals. Yeah I find the college game hard to get into, only usually have a flick around on a sunday morning when nothing else is on.

I'm a fan of Goff, I think not staying is ok. We still have no decent recievers anyway.  I've wanted Fisher gone for years.  He has had too long.

Dont know what to make of the bradford trade. I mean he is better then shaun hill but im more worried that teddy may have some serious leg problems not just the ACL. Some reports said that it was close to a snapped leg. The nathan brown injury is how it read to me. The medico's are more worried about tendants and nerve damage then the ACL. So does anyone know what to expect from bradford? Also a big thanks to macca for running the tipping comp again. Its a lot of fun and bloody hard.

Going back a few years, Bradford had two problems, no wide receivers and a terrible Oline that never protected him. That and he got injured a lot.

no idea what your front line are like but they will need to give him some time, he does have a great arm, but he hasn't played big minutes for a long time.

Teddy: 65.3%  3231 yards, 14TD, 9 INT, 44 sacks, 88.7 Rtg

Bradford: 65%  3725 yards 19 TD, 14 INT, 28 sacks, 86.4 Rtg

I think Bradford can play as well as Teddy did last year and in a similar style. Obviously a run heavy offense takes down his number of attempts,, but with more weapons this year the Vikings might open things up a bit. The big questions will be whether he can stay healthy and whether he's good enough to do what's needed to win big games. Teddy last year was good but probably needed to improve to win play off games. That's probably the same level Bradford is at unless the Vikings defense goes to the next level or two.

7mate are covering the games again this season but 7mate is no longer a HD channel in Melbourne ... however, the channel is broadcast in HD in Sydney, Brisbane & Perth.

Anyway ... 7mate are covering Friday's Panthers @ Broncos game whilst on Monday, 3 games will be telecast ... Cinci @ Jets (early), Giants @ Dallas (late) and Patriots @ Arizona (SNF)

It's doubtful that the MNF games will be covered as they weren't covered last year .. haven't seen the listings as yet.  That will probably be the pattern for the season although the Friday games may not last for the entire season.

Wentz to start for rhe Eagles.

Mate is going to the game and is stoked he will see his debut.

Thanks for the info on bradford lads. Our O line is terrible which is why at times teddy has been below par. Unfortunately i can see bradford getting hurt at some point this year. I dont mind the trade though. A first round pick and a conditional fourth round pick is fi e by me. We have plenty of picks next year from other teams to get back into the first round if we need to.

He offers you hope. Not saying he will be great. But he was ok at the rams and we had no one. No RB, no WR etc and I don't think the Eagles style of play suited him.

These lines might help with the tips ... then again, they may not.  Keep hearing that there's a number of road upsets in week 1 but I'll probably play it safe again, and fail.  Regardless, I'm looking forward to the games.

Printable NFL Week 1 Lines, Odds and Over Under Sheet

Panthers

Green Bay

Giants

Tempted to tip the Panthers but I think I'll just enjoy watching the first game.

From a better point of view the Pats with a 6 point spread seems generous even with Jimmy G. A fired up Belichick after a full offseason of preparation can work some magic there and at least keep it close.

If I didn't follow Atlanta I'd be close to tipping Tampa on the road. Full expecting them to beat us.

Steelers, Rams, Bengals.

Not sure what to think about the hype around Jacksonville heading into the season. Should be better than the last few but all this division winning talk is a bit much. Schedule is friendly though.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
