The worst possible scenario has transpired. A young Collingwood team has won the flag as the best side in the comp.

One always expects the side who's just won the flag to be strong the next year, but it's highly unusual to be a young side.

Who's going to stop them?

They're better than the Saints. They killed Geel WITH Ablett. None of the non-Vic sides look like being dominant soon.

Hawthorn could trouble them if Hodge and Franklin keep starring.

Melbourne's a young list . The Demons did better than anyone else against Coll. this year. (Oh yeah, I know, they relaxed against us!)

Perhaps it's up to us to stop them repeating their multiple premierships of the late 20's early 30's(Depression for more than one reason!).

It's our historical mission. We are taking them down. Queen's Birthday showed we have the will and I think we all know we now have the skill. Melbourne is Collingwood's bogey. I reckon they already know it, too.

But as I said earlier, we've got to win the lower profile games and make the finals. No point taking down the top dog if you can't play in September.

The brilliant thing about any football season is anything can happen, and back to back flags are hard. If we make the finals this year a Melb Vs Coll match would be epic to say the least. If we can't stop them I'd be looking for St. Kilda to extract some revenge on them. The [censored] arn't finished yet IMO. Ablett is a huge loss, no doubt- but they have the team to negate hes departure.

not saying the pies werent the best team in the comp. however. they scored a shitload of goals directly from opposition turnovers (as a result of an excellent defensive game plan). but i thought in both the big wins they had v the cats and saints neither team turned up to play, kept making skill errors and were then punished on the turnover. and these turnovers were almost all in collingwoods forward half.

get rid of our skill errors (like the saints did in the 2nd half of game one), and lookout

I agree, it looks a little ominous with the young age of their list. But there's no need to get too concerned yet, other teams have dominated the competition then fallen on their own sword. And the complexion of the competition will change over the next two years with GFC and GWS and new challengers will emerge...Lets hope they are of the Red and Blue variety B)

Agree. When you get a kid like Steele Sidebottom putting in a performance like that - a big game player - anything can happen in a season of football. SO many factors including injuries to key players; luck playing a part, fixture.... sorry eddie

Starting to hear/read a bit of premature talk - "Collingwood and dynasty" about already given their list...just goes to show a week is a long time in footy...they did draw the week before. Things do change and other lists become stronger and more competitive and strategically manouevre their methodology to improve and sometimes conquer.

yes let us not forget that Collingwood did not play finals in '91 after winning a flag.

So the talk of Dynasty is a little early. But the average age of their list does make it an impressive if not hideous result. B)
