It doesn't mean much, but I was annoyed not to see Brad Green in the Performance of the Week. Dane Swan (39 touches), Dustin Martin (for Richmond's second last goal) and Ryan Griffen (29 touches, 2 goals) were the nominees. A little bit silly IMO.

If you take the blinkers off and seen the other games, Swan, Martin and Griffen played blinders. Worthy nominees IMO. Green was good but the other three players were superb.

I didn't se the games, but looking at the stats Green has two of those players beaten hands down.

FWIW, I stopped Martin's goal on the Foxtel iQ on Saturday night and rewatched it about 10 times. I'll not get sick of seeing it if it was replayed another 100.

Forgot Adam Goodes too. Without Goodes Sydney would've been in trouble, and without Green Essendon may have gotten a lot closer

Four weeks ago we had Jamar, Frawley, Junior and perhaps Grimes as candidates for AA.

Injuries to Junior and Grimes would have pretty much ruled them out now.

Jamar and Frawley are still thereabouts and Green's consistency has I think put him in the picture at least for now for AA talk.

They're easily in contention. Remember that last year LeCras missed out after kicking 50+ goals in the forward pocket. They gave his spot to a midfielder (Leon Davis) because they couldn't stand the thought of leaving him out. Davis got the nod on the back of his massive 35 goals and 24 behinds and an average of just over 20 possies a game.

In other words, the AA selectors don't let good form or statistics get in the way when they're selecting a team.

Watched Swan and Martin's games. Green's was better than Swan's easily... Martin's was only better in the context of being a teenager. Griffen I couldn't comment on. Let's not forget Green got about a thousand kicks in his touches. Barely wasted one, and in what was an average performance from MOST of our 22, Green (along with Bruce, Sylvia and Jamar) basically was the difference. In what SHOULD have been a 60 point win.

I might be biased. But I think he deserved it.

Frawley has had an excellent season. He is nowhere near All Australian selection. He has absolutely no chance of making it considering the form Lake is in. They don't pick 2 full backs. They don't even put one in the back pocket. There are too many good smalls to include in the side. Those guys are more noticeable. He needs to do what he's doing now and more for 2-3 more years to make it as an AA full back. And it needs to be in a better team.

J Mac was never even close this year. He's a midfielder. Try fitting him in to an AA team with Judd, Ablett, Goddard, Swan et al. You'll find it an impossible exercise.

Green is a REMOTE possibility... IF they don't decide to put the midfielders they can't fit in the midfield into the forward line.

He will not make it as a midfielder, so his best chance is HFF/FP and that could be the domain of the 5th/6th - 10th midfielders.

Our best chance is Jamar IF they choose to pick a 2nd ruck on the bench, which again is not a given as there will be many midfielders who would be stiff to miss out on AA and they may just opt to squeeze them all onto the bench.

So in short, I would still not be surprised to see zero Demons as All Australians and would be surprised to see more than 1. This is not pessimism. This is realism. We are a lowly team that does not attract too much viewer attention. Many people (probably including the AA selectors) don't really watch our games. 16 other clubs have players they think are in AA form. There are 22 spots. There are numerous bona fide stars of the competition. Our boys are not yet amongst them. My slim hopes for an AA nominee are with Jamar as a 2nd ruckman named on the bench.

Interestingly... I wander down to bigfooty midweek sometimes, at maybe after a big win to watch the opposition fans panic...

This week though, there's the weekly All Australian thread... A great number of them had Grimes in their squads. Along with Frawley, Jamar, Green and in some cases even JMac. That's a lot of numbers I reckon, considering it's only 40 or so.

I think about 50% had Jamar on the bench, but what surprised me, the vast majority... probably 90-95% had Green not only in the side, but in the forward pocket or flank?

'Landers have been pessimistic... and the Robbo thing has taught us to be exactly that. But it's interesting. I wonder what Green would have to do to be assured of a spot. Top 8 in the Coleman? Top 6? Top ten for marks? How many goals exactly? Who can pip him?

I must admit once I had a close look at the squad, I actually found it hard to find someone that deserved his spot more than him. Weird experience.

Green was good, IMO Swan was better.

Didn't see Martin or Griffens games, but from all reports Adam Goodes was back to his best on Sunday, so perhaps there are a couple of efforts that are unlucky to go unrewarded.
