Take a look at the ladder

If you look at the ladder and think about how all the teams that lost their first two games, tell me how many of those teams we can't beat. My guess is none of them. West Coast have shown a bit but two fourth quarter fade outs don't have me worried in the slightest. Essendon showed us that a fast placed game freo played like us on Saturday can beat them.

So without further ado to the fixture:

Richmond x2

North x2

Adelaide x2

Essendon (at MCG, home game)

West Coast (at MCG)

That's 8 wins. Maybe we lose one or two of those but win 2 or three of the other games. I don't want to get carried away with one game, but we showed something. Something very, very exciting!!

It is not going to be a given beating the above sides.

The boys still need to work hard for the win, dont expect a win because they are poor sides...

Round 2 Collingwood v Melbourne, what did the pies expect to do to the Dees that day?

I don't expect wins, but I do expect the same effort each week. If you expect to win in this league you'll get undone. I don't think that the pies expected to win you wouldn't select them in the side if they did. Complacency means losses

Unlikely we`ll beat Adelaide over there, they have averaged 70 plus point wins for eons

Yes, all those games are winnable but so was the game against Collingwood. With the same application and determination we should win most games we play. The reality, unfortunately, with a young team is we won't see it every week, at least not at the same level.

I suggest we can also beat PA at TIO, The lions at the g, Swans at the G, Crows at the G, Blues at G. That makes 13 wins, just about in the 8.

Go Dees!

I think it's fair to expect that what was displayed on Saturday is the expectation. Nothing less. We know what we are capable of, we need to keep showing signs of improvement along with the desire we had on Saturday. It's fair to expect that if we do that, we can expect a few wins along the way, including a couple of surprises. No exceptions!

Judging by the reports and the stats, it was the senior players who lifted on Saturday, with good support from Grimes and McKenzie.

The big improvement came from Davey, Petterd, Jamar, JoelMac, Dunn and Moloney. These are the guys that need to reproduce that effort each week.

The stats indicate that Scully and Trengove were OK but not prominent, while other newcomers in Bennell and Strauss had less than 10 possessions each.

I was possibly more gutted after Saturdays match than the first round. We had a chance to beat Collingwood with a kick after the siren. My pacemaker would have needed new batteries.

This Sunday we play a side that will copp a massive bagging from their supporters and the Media. We could be facing a version of ourselves from last Saturday.

We may even go in as favourites for the first time in ages. I see this match as one of our 3 most important for the year (the other two are our only friday night match against the dogs and the day game against Carlton prior to the Queens birtday weekend. Both games are very important from a Marketing persective).

We need to prove that last Saturday was not a fluke.

If round two had been round one, these are the three things we would have learned:

North are now the worst team in history;

Petterd is a better key position forward than Kurt Tippett;

The Dees are second favourites for the flag.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

    Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

    I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

    The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
