Finally some annoyance

Oh no!!

Maybe THAT'S the problem! TOO MUCH criticism!

Honestly, too many posters falling over themselves clutching at straws trying to find the answer to our problems... when they are right there in front of us.

(not you satyr)

I have to say that I found some of your posts abrasive during the off season - not that they were wrong but I felt the point could have been made with a tad less arrogance - so I find myself pleasantly surprised that you seem to be one of the few voices of calm reason around here at the moment.

Did any of the posters here seriously believe that by adding a couple of 18yo kids into the mix we would suddenly break the bad habits of the last few years? That picks 1&2 would give such delivery into the forward line that even sans Jurrah and Aussie we would be able to have people like Miller dominating while Bate and Petterd ran free? That Jnr would find a yard, Bruce would run at 100% effectiveness and Jones will start breaking packs like Gaz?

This stuff will take time and it will entail some serious beatings over the next two years or so by sides that have it worked out and have the 25 yo hard bodies to be able to do it. We are still a couple of years away from it at the moment and being beaten badly by the premiers of two years ago is no great disgrace for us. What would have been a disgrace would have been not getting the "junk time" goals of the second half and getting done by 100+ plus. At least we fought it out - or at least Green, Jnr and the kids did.

Seriously, who in there heart of hearts really expected a win last weekend and who thought a couple of weeks ago we actually have a chance against Colling@#$%? None but the deluded I would guess but it doesn't seem to stop everyone putting the boot into a man who was given the hardest job, and was asked to make the hardest decisions (rebuilding, tanking and cutting club favourites) in football.

It is bloody easy to put the boot into the coach ie "Where is the forward line stucture?" or "why do they handball around in circles" without thinking about the root problems: We don't have a forward line to structure and the handball game looks mighty pretty when you have the cattle to do it like Geelong does. And if you think Yoda pats them all on the arse and says "That's OK lads, better luck next week" then you should follow another sport because you have no idea about this one.

I'm finding it harder and harder to read this site as there seems to be far too many bi-polar posters. Last year we had the lose at all cost tanking brigade (singing the Richmond song was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen) and now we have the kill the coach brigade (no doubt the same people and probably one of them was the guy that tossed the scarf in the bin if that story is true). How about some realism for a change - we are a side of young potential who are serviced by good ordinary seniors and no amount of wishing is going to change that fact. You could raise the Great Norm Smith from the dead and he would tell us to wait a couple of years before we can challenge the big boys.

Sorry about the incoherent essay but I'm drunk, it's late and I've bitten my tongue for nearly a week, and I will be buggered before I sit here and watch my team rip itself apart by fools who offer nothing but criticism just like the RFC has had for the last 20 odd years.

What I get frustrated with is the lack of improvement/leadership (that we can see on field) in the older players, we know the younger guys are going to take two years at least. They have 5/6 months of off season training yet they show very very little if any improvement in where they left off last season yet some of these players get hailed as "greats" and "champions".

But they've been the problem all along, haven't they?

Our older players are the reason we have to rebuild in the first place!

Not necessarily them as individuals (I think they'd all be more than handy role players in a good team) but our older player stocks are insufficient in terms of quality and numbers.

If you need further confirmation, check out Whiteboard Wednesday week 3 - it's right there in... red & blue.

I know people are frustrated with the result of last week, as I am, but I love seeing some calm and sane responses on here.

There is no way we will be close to making the finals this year, and most likely next year. Some people actually thought it was a possibility this year!

People who get frustrated with things need to know:

* our senior players in general are not good enough, and never have been. They would be fine in a better team, and that is not us at the moment. Green and J Mac lead the way, but that is where it stops.

* our middle aged players show some good signs, but have yet to give us any A graders. Davey would be closest, and then Syliva from one season. Players like Bate and Petterd will be very good once the younger players develop and he has better players around him.

* our young players show promise, and may give us some elite players we are craving, but that is not guaranteed, we can only hope!

If you think somehow we would go from crap to fantastic in one pre season and a few recruits, you are dillusional or not very smart. And if you think a different coach would be making a big difference, you again are dillusional. And if you think recruiting Cousins, Hall and some other players of the like to help us be more competitive would be better, then you are dillusional again.

Just put up with another tough season or two and pray that these young draft picks will be as good as hoped. If we are still in the same position in 2012, with no improvement, than I may have to join the choruses of discontent.

A liitle of the topic. Ok , a lot of the topic , but does anyone think that Travis Johnstone is looking a little bit more Muslim every day with that beard peculiarity that he has got going on ?

Huh? 'Looking Muslim'? What does that even mean? Seems a bit more circumsized lately to you, does he? Clearly you know him a little better than we do, then, so I'll trust your judgement.

Although, come to think of it, Mclean has been looking particularly Roman Catholic since moving to the Blues.

Priceless.

... maybe Damien was brash, but maybe he was spot on, and too close to the truth for the selection panel to cope with?

This would make a little more sense if the panel hadn't included non-MFC people as well.

Sturmmann, I agree the first 5-10 will be grand finalesk !! I am going to be in the Pies Pesidents members area all day, So I feel your pain.

Seriously that's ballys man. That won't be enjoyable even if we get close or dare i say it.....

Fly the flag just don't yell, say, move or do anything.

Yes but we've had a "clean out" over the last two years of the worst sections of a substandard lot and the ones left over are so very frustrating to watch. I'm heading along today with excitement at seeing my 1st game of the new season but with absolute trepidation as I'm going with a mad pies supporter.

...I'm going with a mad pies supporter.

i feel your pain, im going with 2 arrogant pies supporter and a carltank supporter!

Pies supporters for all of the feralness I can truck with.. the [censored] Blues supporter is not my bag man.
