Garland back in moonboot?

Featured Replies

From Cam Schwab's twitter:

I had a few tweets about Col Garland. Scan showed a small unrelated hotspot. Docs being cautious. In a moon boot for a few weeks.

they are taking the best possible approach.

Phew.

It's still a worry that Garland seems prone to stress related bone injuries, even moreso when his latest injury comes after a long physical layoff.

AGREE- Maybe his twisting & turning may be a problem. May have to find a position like full forward where he leads and does not have to do alot regarding his twisting & turning.

Damn it. Why, oh why?

Yeah, I'm worried too. Two stress fracture-like injuries in the same year. That screams danger to me. But hopefully I, with no medical knowledge at all, am completely off the mark and he'll be fine.

This sounds wonderful.

Treating a Broken Foot

A talar fracture that doesn't heal properly will create problems for you later. These may include not being able to use your foot normally, arthritis, chronic pain or collapse of the bone. Immediate first aid for a talar fracture is to apply a well-padded splint around the back of the foot and leg from the toe to the upper calf. Raise the foot above the level of the heart and apply ice for 20 minutes every hour or two until you can see a doctor. Don't put any weight on the foot.

In rare cases, if the bones haven't moved out of place, a talar fracture can be treated without surgery. You will have to wear a cast and avoid putting weight on your foot for six to eight weeks. After the cast has been removed, your doctor may give you exercises to restore the strength and range of motion of your foot and ankle.

Most talus fractures need surgery to avoid complications. After surgery, your foot will be put in a cast for six to eight weeks. You will not be able to put any weight on the foot for at least three months.

That looks like it refers to a traumatic/impact fracture - I'd imagine treatment and issues with a stress fracture will be different.

Considering its not even a stress fracture - its merely a hot-spot

Relax guys... [/saddam hussein accent]

Just our of curiosity, does anyone think I should I should apply for the Herald Sun?? :P

All the best Col, I hope your recovery goes well and that you can still have a long career at the MFC!!!

There's nowhere to hide in AFL footy.

unrelated hot spots - good news its unrelated to existing injury, bad news its a new stress injury.

hopefully it is simply an issue of resuming training a bit too fast, and proper rest and physio, and a slightly more cautious exercise program should cope with that.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
