Shaun Burgoyne walks out on Port Adelaide

JUST REPORTED IN HERALD SUN-

Essendon ready to pounce on Shaun Burgoyne

Finn Bradshaw From: Herald Sun October 01, 2009 2:54PM

THE Bombers believe they can lure disgruntled Port star Shaun Burgoyne to Windy Hill despite Hawthorn being the midfielder's preferred destination.

Burgoyne has nominated Hawthorn as his preferred destination, but new Essendon CEO Ian Robson today said the Bombers were waiting to pounce if the talks between Port and the Hawks break down.

"There are some challenges between Port and Hawthorn to get that done," Robson told SEN this morning.

"They may well get it done, because ultimately there's a will and a resolve to do it, but we stand as a very, very active participant on the margins of that conversation, and ready because We believe Shaun would be a great fit for us."

"But we also respect that to date Shaun has indicated his preference is Hawthorn."

Hoping neither club picks him up by the close of trade week, and he decides to go into the pre-season draft where his 3rd choice of club picks him up

And this is relevant to us because...

IT IS RELEVANT AS WELL AS PERTINANT- IT IS RELEVANT BECAUSE IT IS NEWS- WE STILL WOULD LIKE TO PICK HIM UP IN PSD. SO THEREFORE IT IS NOT A FOREGONE CONCLUSION THAT HE IS GOING TO ESSENDON OR HAWTHORN & PERTINANT AS HE IS DAVEY'S COUSIN -WE STILL HAVE A CHANCE OF GETTING HIM.

And this is relevant to us because...

it's good news

melbourne would use Pick #1 in the PSD to get him if port refuses the trade with hawks or bombers...

it would be xmas coming early to melb fans

But was it really that necessary to start a new thread?

He's out of contract. If Port don't accept a 1st rounder from Hawthorn or Essendon he can go straight into the National Draft witha contract price and term and get picked up there by one of them. Sure Richmond, Freo, North, Sydney and West Coast will get a look too but if they want to spend their 1st rounder on him they can enter the trade discussion. There's no way he's getting to the PSD unless he specifically wants to come to MFC which apparently he doesn't.

BurGONE

SORRY DIDN'T SEE OTHER THREADS .

Dont have to apolagise its all good mate,[censored] happens & its still a valid topic.Ess will chase him hard cos Matthew LLoyd was on radio here talking to Cornsey & rowe & said they realy badly wanted Davey 1st but they couldnt get him so now they will focus on Burgoyne.Good for us they didnt get Davey

doubt hed be coming our way.. time to let Burgoynes be Burgoynes

I can't see any chance of him landing at melbourne as pointed out by other posters Hawthorn are prepared to use pick 9 as we speak and if port demand more and this falls through pick 9 it is in the ND.... be nice to get him for nothing but maybe another will slip through if its going to happin this may be the year for it. there are some big names being floated around and maybe more next week going to be pretty interesting more so than years gone by

doubt hed be coming our way.. time to let Burgoynes be Burgoynes

Haha - GOLD.

Dennis Commetti-esque.

That's a rubbish rule by the AFL. If you put yourself in the national draft, the rules should be stated that you have to be paid at a rookie wage like all draftees or just scrap PSD cause its worth jack squat. The PSD is in essence just a continuation of the national draft.

If you put yourself in ND, you can't name your price or terms. In PSD, you can. That surely makes more sense.

It's not jayceebee's fault - someone sabotaged his keyboard :(

I managed to get hold of a security camera* still of the incident:

*can't blame the criminal for not expecting a security camera just a metre from the keyboard..!

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
