DEMONS HAVE A UNITY THAT IS SECOND-TO-NONE

A nice piece in the Age to finish the series:

DEMONS HAVE A UNITY THAT IS SECOND-TO-NONE

FAREWELL, Demons, for season 2009. My year with you has confirmed me in the belief that you are a magnificent old club. The AFL telling you your brand was meaningless was an act of corporate buffoonery. You are older than the Ashes and a national sporting treasure.

Further confirmation that we are united, and on the right track. Martin Flanagan's articles have been great all year. Well done CC for getting him on board!

A great article. Martin Flanagan is a top journo, he has gained so much of my respect this year.

Thanks Martin. I hope you keep watching our great club. You have done a fantastic job.

Well done mate. A True Writer.

Martin Flanagan has been very supportive of Liam Jurrah's journey, dating back to early 2007 when he did a story on Liam's first visit to Melbourne. He's a genuinely top bloke. Having had a bit to do with the Demons football department this year, I can only echo his comments on the club's unity and the quality of the people. Make no mistake, the Dees are in good shape and in good hands.

Hats off to Martin Flanagan.

Embedded with the Dees this year, Flanagan has cast our club

in a good light with a bright future. (It is the truth, no less!)

Hopefully it will be said that he was witness to the resurrection

of a great club and the rebirth of a football power.

He clearly writes with feeling. I especially deelighted in his

comments on Jimmy Stynes and Liam Jurrah.

Good on you Martin.

Come back again.

Thanks.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
