Don't want to bring up a thread that is constantly made, but I think a lot has changed over the last couple of months.

I am interested in people naming their top 5 players on Melbourne's list.

When asking this, I am not looking for the players that have had the best careers or what not, I want to see the players that people believe to be the most important/best players currently on our list going into the future.

That is, a player that is yet to have played a game can be on this list.

Think of it as naming your five untouchables if the GC allowed each club to name 5 players that cannot be taken from the

Melbourne list.

The first two have the ability to be Nick Riewoldt/Matthew Richardson type players in both their performances and their ability to draw the eye to this footy club. They could be giants of the AFL.

Aaron Davey has the opportunity to be one of the greatest midfielders that ever played for the club over the next 5 years, and should correlate with a rise up the ladder.

LJ could excite fans and convert kids for a decade.

And Jack Grimes could mould the midfield for the next decade with his leadership and professionalism.

Would love to have put a Davey or Moloney (should be our next captain IMO) in there, but i have a feeling they'll both be pushing 30+ when we next play in a GF, and it'll be the work of the youngsters above that got us there.

I dropped off the Rivers bandwagon some time ago. Primarily as result of his perpetuating injuries and fluctutations in form. In a way he's like Bruce, he simply hasnt got what he oncehad. Brock...seems the eternal promise of something. Beamer... still might get there.

Those highlighted are the beter ten. Not particularly that order. There's a few knocking on the door as well. In reality we arent that far off a decent team. Once it finds direction and cohesion it will sing

In 2006, we had Rivers and dare I say it Carroll. in defence. He was critical. He went down then MFC were stuffed.

Since then we have seen Garland, Frawley, Martin and Warnock emerge. Rivers has good judgement but is a relatively slow defender who gets exposed on the lead and is unable to handle the gorillas. As a the so called third tall in defence he should also be expected to counterattack as well. He lacks pace and his disposal is questionable sometimes diabolical. Given his lack of speed and his inability to play on the gorilla forwards which forwards in the AFL is he suited to covering as a 3rd tall defender?

He is a capable footballer but is not as critical to our side as he was given the changes to the game and the development of other younger options.

H, Blease is an interesting one. I still have high hopes for him but I'm trying to refrain from any excitement just in case he never fully recovers from his injury.

We have played half way decently without him in the past and he will find it increasing hard to garner as others come through. Or dowe continually wait too long and end up with cloggers?

A bunch could have easily made the list. Moloney, Blease, Strauss on skills, and of course Jurrah, who has only played a few. Once he proves consistency, then he'd be in the 5 with a bullet. Sylvia one rung below that as I'd like to see him do it all over again in the first half of next year.

The glaring lack of love for Garland in this thread shows how underrated this kid is.

A true modern-day key position player, with all the defensive and attacking talent you could ever wish for.

He (JR) obviously still isnt 100% ( and may never be again )..too quick to get a bit frustrated and niggled. Lacks the poise and comensurate skills of his younger team mate ( grimes ). Has been imitating Brucey in his clanger type disposal a bit this year; not good !!

At his age, there is no guarantee that Davey will be around when we're challenging. If he is, he could be in decline.

I specifically chose young player who I think will provide the core group of players that will potentially lead us to a flag. This is no indication of Davey's talent or importance to the team, just my general view of who I would least like to lose and which players I believe are the most irreplaceable.
