Jim Stynes to remain President but temporarily step down down due to illness!

Featured Replies

Press conference at Junction Oval or MCG tomorrow.

Jim to undergo surgery this week and is expected to step down tomorrow.

Foxsports reorting he is having surgery later this week due to serious illness...

If Jimmy is having an operation later this week it would seem that whatever is wrong must only been recently discovered otherwise he would have stood down before this. I am hoping that his standing down is only an interim measure and that we can all look forward to his return in the near future. Good luck and God bless.

I am hoping and praying that it's just media hype but in my heart I know it's true. How terrible and what a loss for the club. Jim is Australians finest import ever.

Get well soon, Jim.

I hope to god you are right. This football club needs him really bad

Get well soon Jim

Hopes and prayers, Jim. Get well soon mate.

Hope Channel 9 hasn't done a "Jeff Goldblum" story again!!!

IN hope they have, this is shocking news, all the best jimmy.

Absolute tragedy. Get well Jim and look after yourself. You have inspired so many of us and we will not let you down. Our prayers are with you and your family. There will always be a spot for you when you have recovered.

Damn.

He is a great man.

Hope he is ok.

Is it not possible that seeing today was the membership cut off date, that Jimmy waited for this? If some people knew he wasn't going to be President, they might not sign up and we may not have signed up the last few. It'd be typicaly Jimmy, putting other people ahead of himself.

I highly doubt it. Jimmy's health is more important than memberships and he is having an operation later this week for what is suposedly a serious illness.

We wish you and your family all the best Jimma

Melbourne Football Club vice president Don McLardy said last night he could not comment about Stynes.

"No, I can't actually, mate, but certainly tomorrow there'll be an announcement," he said.

Mr McLardy said he expected the announcement to be made late on Thursday morning.

When asked if last night's television report about Styne's illness was correct, he said: "I can't make any comment. But it will all be cleared up tomorrow."

If the reports are true then it is an absolute tragedy. Good luck Jimmy, you are an absolute top bloke.

I am just gutted.

Obviously, firstly, hoping this is untrue and if true, that Jim has a speedy and full recovery.

Secondly, if true it is a shocking day for the MFC. Truly shocking. Jim is an ambitious and coalition building president. He has done more to unite the club than any predecessor in 50 years. I think he would be irreplaceable and I fear the consequences on our future. As others have said, Lyon or Neitz, but moreso Lyon or someone of his calibre, must roll up his sleeves and do the job that must be done.

Having been involved in some MFC things in the past couple of weeks, if this is true I would say no-one saw it coming until very recently.

I am just absolutely shocked. Massive. I mean massive shoes to fill. Can we cop without him? If he gets over his illness will he come back as president? A million things running through my mind right now. He is a true legend, a true champion and a champion bloke. Why did it have to be Jimmyyyy. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Get better mate, we love you.

Shocking news both for Jim himself and obviously for the club.....

If the reported illness is proven to be correct tomorrow, then I hope for a speedy and healthy recovery asap, for Jim and his family.

As for the club, this is potentially horrible news, as he has been one of the few shining lights and is the saving grace for the current red and blue.

But lets wait to see what will happen tomorrow and hope for the best for everyone.

I was out watching a band tonight, had some friends texting me with the news... This is really sad... My first thoughts are with Jim, and hoping this is an illness he can beat.... I've got no doubt he would give his life for this footy club, lets all prey that this is an illness that he can defeat, to see our club thrive into the future...

Completely shocked. Just gobsmacked. :(

My thoughts go out to Jimmy, i hope, firstly and foremostly that he is ok and it's nothing life threatening. This is very sad news for Jimmy's family, the club and everyone else involved. Considering how well he has been doing so far in his tenure only serves to intensify the sadness i feel at this news.

All the best Jimmy, get well soon mate. We need you!

I concur the thoughts of others; Garry, we know you won't coach us, but will u stand up and lead this club in Jim's absence, when we need you the most???

I can't sleep. The more I think about this, the more I think he's really really ill, or could become this way. Get well soon Jimma. Your passion on Queen's Birthday was amazing. Use some of this passion to get over this!!!!

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
