By the way, the excuse of it being a poor game is irrelevant. Nobody would have known that pre-game. In fact, it was within the realms of possibility that we might even win yesterday. But not to worry, I'm sure supporters won't come on Sunday because they know we're going to lose to Geelong, so what's the point?

Adelaide should have accounted for us easily, they play an average brand of footy at the best of times and we've been poor for seasons now...

I umpired 2 games of junior footy,one at 10am and one at 1pm in the cold and rain. My friend who usually go to games said it was too cold to go, so I sat by myself and had great coversation with other MFC supporters I had never met.

Weather can seriously not be an excuse. Apart from being a tad cold, it was not too bad.

Time of game cannot be used as an excuse either. Sure it's a Sunday night, but the game finished at around 7.15, there's nothing decent on tv on a sunday night anyway.

You're kidding me re: timing. I mean I've never seen as few kids at the footy as I saw yesterday.

All in all, we are meant to have nearly 30,000 members and only a third would have shown up yesterday (if that). It was a pathetic showing from our supporters, especially after we had just had a win.

Support is unconditional, how we as supporters can have a go at players for under performing (ie Bate) whilst we ourselves do not turn up to games is unbelievable. Apologies and kudos to those who did show up to the game, we need more supporters like you.

Everyone's mentioning the fact we have x members. It seems like there's an implied obligation to attend games if you buy a membership, and if you do not you're not worthy. I don't know about you, but I'm happy for all supporters - whether they're 'diehards' / 'true blue' / have nothing better to do and attend every week or fans that rock up every now and then - to buy memberships!

Thanks"MelbournePassion" but I do understand that 4.30 on a Sunday afternoon in Melbourne is a stupid time for any Vic team and many will not go on a work night. The inter-staters are used to it. I grew up on Saturdays at the footy. At the "G" at 11am, see the end of the 3rd's, watch the 2nd's and then the seniors. Now I pay the same money, less entertainment, and many games I just can not get to!

Terrible crowd yesterday. Very disappointing. Would have liked to have seen at least 20,000.

But it was terrible scheduling by the AFL.

It should also be noted that they only got 15,600 down at Geelong yesterday. So maybe in the context of the day we were always going to draw a low crowd.

But still, considering we only recently broke our membership record, it has to be asked, where was everyone??

I was there and have to say that there is something about those sorts of games. Brings out the die hards. I remember the Brisbane game last year. Only 17 or 18,000 and I couldnt hear the siren at the end of the game. Last night the crowd, what crowd there was, was at times really wild. Hated the game but had a good time nonetheless.

It's pretty simple, appalling time-slot for families and a weather forecast that promised rain, hail and the four horseman of the Apocalypse.

As it was, the weather held and with thermals on it wasn't too bad.

Football is a winter sport, and the majority of the MCG is undercover anyway.

Seriously, I know we haven't had a real winter in about 5 years, but when did people get so soft? It's just rain/wind.

Players are on the ground in shorts and a singlet, and not a single one of them has dropped dead yet (although I'm sure we wish some would ).

People with young kids and the like may have rightfully chosen to stay home, which is fair enough. But what about those who could have come on their own, who didn't have anything better to do on such a cold, windy Sunday night, and instead of turning up chose to stay at home and watch the game on Foxtel?

I think most of us are talking about those types of fans who only ever turn up when the circumstances suit them completely. When you think about being in a relationship (and I would say that most paid-up members are in a 'relationship' with the MFC), it's about give and take.

We are not always going to win, we are not always going to play when it's warm, sunny or when the calendar says Saturday, so the club cannot financially rely on supporters who only turn up when we do. If supporters don't feel that they should sacrifice just a bit of comfort in order to cheer the team on, it's a real shame, especially given that we have a young team that is working extremely hard (watching our senior players cruise around in 07/08 was a lot harder than watching our kids turn the ball over IMO) and would definitely enjoy the support of the crowd... particularly when we play an interstate side. Remember the days when the G' was our fortress? It had as much to do with the support the boys had on that ground, than anything else.

Maybe I'm a sucker for pain, and I'm not suggesting that everyone does stupid [censored] like I do and go to games while extremely sick or on crutches, but I can't imagine missing a game of footy because it's cold or wet. Big deal.

Personally I won't be there on Sunday because we are currently playing crap, slow, dreary, stupid handball. It has nothing to do with the expected result. If we lost by 15 goals but played in a manner that suggested there was light at the end of this long, long tunnel then I would walk out of the ground with a glimmer of hope. After yesterday's performance I cannot see one thing that suggests we will play finals football under Bailey in the next 3 years. For me it is all about how and not about how much, and currently how we are playing is god-awful.

If we had Robbo/Watts/Green kicking for goal instead the usual clowns we would have won yesterday.

You're right Trident. Whilst my wife and kids stayed home, I went. Had it been a 2pm bounce, all 5 of us would have gone.

The one thing that appealed to me, was to support our team. For my wife & kids it would of been the same. However a 4:40 start and importantly a late finish prevented them from being there, with school the next day.

I made it along and so did my Mum and my 75 year old Dad who was in Hospital last weekend. But there was no way I was taking my 11 year old out on Sunday night in such bad weather. He has school camp this week, and the last thing he needed was a cold before he went. Absolutely shocking time.

Gotta say though that we can't expect all members to show. My brother has a membership, a seat and a social club membership. He lives in Brisbane and so can't get to many games but gets his membership every year to support the club.

If the Club shared your attitude they'd tell all those supporters who buy a membership despite being unable to make many games that they shouldn't bother.

Quite simply these are the bare bones of it and this applies to all teams,if a team is playing poorly for a number of seasons the crowd drops off and only recovers when they get back on the winning trail.Look at Hawthorn 4 years ago, very poor crowds,they turn it around, the crowd returns and then they get the best time slots.I don't agree with it but thats the way it is. the whole thing was compounded on Sunday for us because of the dire weather forecast.

I'll concede Collingwood is probably an exception to that rule !!

It seems to me that they should schedule the best attended games to the less popular slots and give a helping hand to the less attractive fixtures that need all the help they can get!!
