But every week Bailey is saying "we didn't do this, they were better in XYZ area" which is great to explain why we lost but what is he actually doing to fix it? Blighty made a good call last week saying its all well and good to say yeah we are playing the kids, but what is Bailey doing on game days to stop the rot? I love how everyone seems to think we won't win a game. They said the same thing last year and we came out and recorded the second best half-time comeback ever. And then wen ton to win 2 more games than we needed to, securing Jack and Blease in the mean-time. And the funniest thing is, we're better than we were last year. I mean... we're still diabolically bad, but we're better than last year.

Exactly the same thing will happen as last year, only we are more of a "danger" to win more than 3. Mid-year, other clubs will start to suffer injuries and tire. A club will come in not taking us seriously (a la Brissy and Freo) or one will just be worse than us... (WCE). Also, our kids will still be hungry come round 6 when things cease to be as hectic and messed up as they are in the first few rounds.

I don't know what people expect. All the other clubs are fresh as, and no matter how fresh our teenagers are, they are still just teenagers. I would say a 60-point flogging at AAMI is about par for MFC. Back when we had a mature list, we were getting done by just as much. They are certainly not good enough to play at VFL level at the moment... the same can be said with Ricky Petterd, however i firmly believe it's more of a positional aspect with Ricky. Aaron Davey clearly the best player for the demons in all three opening games... I'm still bemused as to why he isn't taking the kick ins. He hits his man from 55m right on the chest. And Brad Green STILL isn't playing a full forward position. One of the most accurate kicks in the afl, wouldn't you want the ball in his hands more often?

Nobody from the MFC even came close to registering a BOG vote in the overall scheme of things.

However, Davey was absolutely fantastic, and would get 3 Brownlow votes had we won.

Port's best were P.Burgoyne, C. Cornes ([censored] of the highest order) and Tredrea (biggest [censored] of the lot). Brogan also tore us a new one.

On the other hand, Chip Frawley did a very good job on Motlop (who tends to rip us apart), and BigHead Ebert had a very quiet game (I'm pretty sure Martin was on him for most of the game).

Spot on about Petterd. Hes a ball magnet, why is DB chucking him at opposite ends of the ground. He needs to be on wings or flanks. I think he was on tredrea at one stage in the last quarter?

Our pressure and tackling is generally good for about a half, but very young bodies tend to tire, especially in the heat, so obviously our pressure and tackling is going to drop off.

People need to open their eyes and actually take stock of how inexperienced we actually are. Our ruckmen have 47 games experience between them, Port's have over 300. Half of Port's midfield is made up of premiership players, most of our midfield is yet to play 100 games. Our biggest strength is our backline, and yet Rivers is the most experienced player down there, and he's missed 2 years of football!

Our tackling and defensive pressure was woeful today, we have to learn how to stick a tackle and show more aggression.

I was glad that we didn't totally capitulate in the last quarter like we would have last year early in the season. Even though obviously Port slacked off a bit in the last we still had some triers. I was really pleased with Meesens hit outs. He has improved since NAB Cup days. Anyone else with an opinion on Meesen because we have all been fairly hard on him for weeks!!

On the plus side, 7 goals in the last quarter...we are now one of the form sides of the AFL

Very pleasing last term and very disappointing third term. But our highest score for the year. Aaron Davey on his way to win the Bluey was best for us with 30 touches (very effective), and Jones, Bate, Green, Bruce and Morton all had pleasing performances. Green kicked 3 goals, along with Bruce, Bate and Miller all kicking 2 each, and Jetta, Moloney, Dunn, Morton and Bennell all snaging one. Next week we face Richmond In a game that I think is very winable.

No idea what is going on with McLean, but it's so depressing to see!

And indeed to the others asking the same, I think a large part of his problem is that he has nothing to kick to. In his first few years at the club he delivered the ball beautifully into the forward line, but you have to remember that he had a dominant power forward up there who was demanding the ball in a certain place. If you look at his passes to Neitz from a couple of years ago, you'll see that he was told exactly where to put the ball by his captain. Since we've lost our two main focal points in the forward fifty, none of our midfield have had any idea where to put the ball. The problem will begin to right itself when Robbo comes back, and if we were to put Green in a permanent role as a forward we would probably see a drastic improvement, not only because of the quality of those players as leading targets, but because they will absolutely demand that the ball be delivered to the area they want. Our young mids would be much more settled with that sort of leadership in front of them.

Yep, because unlike Lade, the hero who picks on kids half his size, Morton was concentrating on the game and wanted to help out his teammates by winning the ball, not beating up his opponent.

The amount of complete and utter tools who play for the PAFC is amazing. Carr, Cornes, Brogan, Tredrea, Lade and the list goes on and on. Hope Burgoyne gets done for that sly knee into Davey's back too. Dog act.

Yeh Davey is having a great year. His kicking is very accurate. And he seems to find alot of space. Maybe using him as a kick in could be a good thing for opening up space, as i think we struggle from kick ins.

Morton had tackled Lade, and both players ended up on the ground with Lade over Morton;, Lade took a cheap shot with a palm/forearm to Morton's head (like a jumper punch). Moreton immediately jumped up to remonstrate and pushed Lade. Lade wanted to go on with it, but meanwhile we had got the ball, and Moreton was running to space, with Lade after him. Didn't look good on the tv, but Moreton did the best he could under the cercumstances; no one came to help him. :angry:
