Rd 3. Melbourne vs. Port Adelaide

By far the best first quarter we've had in Adelaide in the last 10 years, which says a lot about our inability to play there.

Sylvia has taken his idiocy to a whole new level, Bate is horrendously slow, and our forward line couldn't complete against the Sunshine Nursing Home, but somehow we're not getting flogged yet.

Rivers, Martin, Morton and Jonesy playing well. McLean at least getting his hands on the ball.

Umpires are killing us.

Bring on the second quarter!

please, harsh on sylvia, was nothing...

i dont think he'll play next week anyway, josh carr will try to knock him out at some point (diver)

Goal green gee thesew boys are fighting hard

As per usual we let the opposition kick a mountain of goals in a very short period of time, and it all starts with our midfield going to sleep halfway through the quarter.

We know our forward line is terrible, but if the boys in the middle cannot get their hands on the footy, that's when we get smashed. We can keep up with the opposition despite our non-existent attack, but when we let Port Adelaide dominate every single center clearance it's inevitable that we'll get our arses handed to us on a platter.

Also, please please can someone put some firecrackers up Bate's arse.... his slowness makes him an actual liability, which is a shame because his skills are ok once he gets the ball.

On a positive note, Meesen is actually doing ok in the centre, but on the downside he is losing his opponent far too easily around the ground. PJ needs a run at Casey and in fact should have been dropped instead of Spence.

Jetta and Bennell having much better games, and finally Davey is having a real impact on a game of footy. But we need so much more from McLean, Moloney and Jones or else we will get smashed again.

P.S.- Someone kill Chad Cornes!!!!

So dissapointing when we fade away. Frustrating as well.

We need more players to do what Davey is doing. Work hard, use the ball well and have some imagination.

Different coach,same [censored]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To half time:

P. Burgoyne-19 disposals,18 UNCONTESTED!!!!!

S. Salopek-18 disposals,13 UNCONTESTED!!!!!!

D. Piearce-16 disposals,13 UNCONTESTED!!!!!!!

There is absolutely no pressure on their midfield,we will never win a game applying no pressure to their midfield.

Result-4 goals in 8 minutes to close the half.

We didn't man up under Daniher and we don't under Bailey!!!!!

what has changed from the season 06?? where we were the top tackling team in the league? bartram and junior had 10 tackles a game...

Half time

Port 65 Melbourne 28

Here we (don't) go again; Port is odds on to run all over us in the second half. Green has been tremenous, Maloney's battled hard, Davey has had plenty of the ball, and Rivers as done more than his share - really, we've had enough of the pill but once again our general field kicking is atrocious. We've got to show some grit over the next two quarters and not let this match develop into the usual AAMI shellacking.

how bad is sylvia's report?

I am so sick of being a melbourne supporter. This is garbage. Our senior players are absolute rubbish. Millers working over time and NO ONE can kick the ball into 50.

how bad is sylvia's report?
not bad, its got to the stage were its virtually unwatchable, i cant see any improvement from last year, mcleans the worst kick in the AFL, and if miller marks in the 50 hed rather pass it off, cause he [censored] scared to have a shot at goal, its a pathetic display.

Dunn goal

5.5 to port 13.10

this is like someone scratching a black board

Imagine how good Davey would be at Hawthorn?

Imagine how good Davey would be at Hawthorn?

Just another player.

He'd be better than the likes of Stokes and Varcoe at Geelong though.

4 more goals to port in 5 mins.

Well, after only 3 games we will need to look for a priority pick.

the back line is under too much pressure, sill no forward line. All the kids are hanging their heads!

I really couldn't care less about him now. I've been one of his biggest fans however I've come to the resolution that he won't be one of the Melbourne players bringing the club forward.

The best part of that Qtr was the siren

win loose or draw i will give anything to see us play a full 4 qtr game!

Imagine how good Davey would be at Hawthorn?
hows the way he had 50 kicks to half time for the season and 49 had hit a target, yet mclean couldnt hit the side of barn from 20mtrs,and as for sylvia i dont think they should persist with him anymore, they mite as well be out there 17 guys on the ground, sylvia brings nothing to the table, hes a crumb that doesnt try.

hmmm wat can ya say i suppose... meesen is actually doin quite well in the ruck. 15 hitouts with 3 tackles and 7 disposal to 3 quarter time so not bad effort.. pj on the other hand needs a spell in the twos. speakin of twos how are casey goin?? surely some positive out of that?

Yeah really i dont think we have improved at all from last year. In fact we have even fewer options up forward it seems. We shouldnt have gotten rid of white. I would have understood if we had 3 good ruckmen to get more experience but i dont think any of them have the potential to even come close to him.

FOOTY SUCKS!

can we kick 10 goals in the game and at least keep our average?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
