Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He actually doesn't have great hands but he is getting better. He was let go by the Eagles for that very reason.

As for being a dangerous kick, do you recall his miss from 25 metres straight in front last last week?

Thats one kick, Roughhead did the same thing last week.

I think he is an OK kick, but as a long term forward prospect? Its a pretty bad scenario if thats where we're heading

Correct. And he has missed a few from there before. People are seduced by his rather kicking style for a big man rather than the result.

Thats one kick, Roughhead did the same thing last week.

It was dead in front. Roughhead kick three goals in the same quarter from the boundary lines in either pockets.

What he does bring is height and pace. This will cause some back's to panic and give away free kicks trying to stop his run at the ball which did happen on sat. Crossing everything that messen steps up to put a little pressure on the snr rucks

He is not a prime ruck choice behind Jamar and on last week's efforts Spencer is clearly better. He is not a great mark. Height is a limited value when you cant hurt the opposition overheard. He is fast for a big man....200cm rover?. He has alot of nice to have skills while not being prominent in the ones he needs to have to nail a position as his own.

I would be hoping Spencer keeps improving. Meesen at the moment makes PJ look like Dean Cox.

That was kinda my point, that someone who has a good kicking style and gets results can sometimes screw them up, not saying that PJ is at the same level as Roughhead, just saying he should't be judged on the one miss.

That first kick that PJ did for goal on Saturday was right in line where I was sitting, think he rushed his normal routine, nailed a second one a few minutes later from exactly the same position. I think DB knows exactly how he is going to play him, but at the moment, apart from the backline and McLean all other places are up for grabs, so I assume he will be slotted in when they are settled. On Satuday when he was not in the ruck, if Bate was off he lined up in the goalsquare, when Bate was there he had a 'roving' commission starting around CHF. Tomorrow I think his job will be following a certain Goodes person around, hence why Meesen and Spencer I think will share the ruck tomorrow. When we play Richmond during the season, reckon he will get Richardson. I actually like him as a player and I think DB does as well, and his role will vary during the season but if fit he will always be in the squad.

Buckley has been having tiny groin niggles and is just taking it easy right now. Should be raring to go very soon. Could have easily played last week

Where'd you hear that? I haven't heard a thing about Buckley all pre-season (except that he apparently looks like Franklin from a distance...)

I think so, he has very good hands and also is surprisingly one of our more dangerous kicks of a football.

I don't think he has terribly good hands, and his kicking for goal throughout last year was unreliable at best. I really can't decide on where PJ's best football lies.

He isn't. He missed a few sitters last year. He does not get alot of the ball. And if is not going to hurt the opposition when he has it then he is in trouble.

Sorry but Paul Johnson is not a foward. He never was and never shall be, even back when playing for Vic Metro U/16's he wasn't. Not bagging the big fella at all, just merely saying that he'll never truely be one, and would be wasted down foward.

He had 65% goalkickng accuracy last year, which isn't too bad for a makeshift forward come ruckman. I'm not saying he is the greatest kick, but there are a few more players in our list who should be condemned for their skills before he is.

I recall him missing a few very gettable set shot ones last season. Given his overall 65% strike rate it makes those misses seem worse. He should have nailed. Other players are not being toted as forwards like he is.

Bate had a 54% strike rate and we're calling on him to be our full forward

Missed a bad one against Collingwood in the second qtr iirc - it was at the city end.

One of quite a few for a guy who has good skills around the ground.

If he's wasted down forward where's he going to make it?

I can't see him ever holding down the #1 ruck role.

If you're a back-up ruck you need another string to your bow.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
