Membership Marketing

Hey,

Correct me if I'm completely wrong and I concocted this in my crazy mind, but wasn't Hamish Blake (annointed by G.Lyon himself on the footy show) now a fully fledged Melbourne supporter/member and was going to be involved in marketing the club to the younger generation?

While I never listen to fox fm, hes is a ratings smash and one of the funniest blokes going around who has wide spread genuine appeal and I thought that this was going to be a great way to reach new members?

So far I haven't seen anything utilising him?

Pherhaps it was arranged before the board takeover and its not a direction we are going in?

Anyone know whats going on here?

redman

redman no one knows whats going on down there, its a secret society and at the moment us 21,000 members are simply not involved.

It's certainly not a part of the Old Admin, as I remember Stynes being involved (in every photo) right in a period we were signing a few "big name" peoples, the dude from the Basketball team, the Irish Rugby Captain

Would you like an email every time a polo shirt is sold?

Or how about notification every time a board member goes to the toilet..?

your expectations are ludicrous

your posts are ludicrous.

I really hope he can get us quality air time, but keep in mind he works for one of the most comercialised media organisations around. He may not have an ability to regulary plug our club, breach of contract?

At the same time when he is on that show on ch10 maybe the club should try to get him to wear one of our new members polo's. It will certainly stand out! especially if we have a win on sat night

Eh? That's a bitter "so's ya motha" isn't it.

Grow up a little.

Also, no, the club is not required to notify Jacktheripper every time a plan is set for a later date than the day he remembers something that was mentioned at some point...

I think it was the Kanga's game where I saw Hamish hanging out with Jimmy during the game. I think Jimmy met Hamish at a mutual acquantance's (or family members, can't remember) wedding, and Jimmy approached Hamish to jump on board.

All I've seen is the occassional post of Blake regarding his stint on the Footy Show last year. Sure he is doing alright in the radio ratings and Jimmy may have his number for use down the track. But is he really that appealing? I would of thought - "let the football talk" in terms of marketing and our new exciting recruits. Surely Hamish Blake can be utilised better. Ie. MC events such as at the youth forum.

I just get surprised by supporters who think the club has the time & resources to notify us every time a decision is made... or even when a decision is NOT made & they just feel like it'd be nice to have an update.

I'd rather they get on with the job & get results.

Negotiations with Hamish could very well be ongoing & if the agreement has fallen through I see no need to draw attention to a failed deal by having a public announcement.

This is not to mention the fact that publicizing every move made by the club would undermine many of our attempts.

The Mission Foods situation is a perfect example of why its often best to keep things secret until something has been signed. Instead other clubs caught wind & tried (successfully) to undermine our negotiations.

Sometimes being kept in the dark is for the best.

I don't know what the hype about him is, i think he a Tool.

With that said, many younger people love him and i think thats the team wants, the younger members.

But i still think his a Tool.

So the club did start something with Hamish, least I'm not going crazy.. well that crazy anyhow..

Shame nothing has come of it as yet.

titan, I agree that sponsorship is definately a bigger issue than membership at this point in time but the more memberships we have, the more attractive we become to a sponsor and it also will assist in finding the next generation of members which at this stage appears abit barren which will help secure our long term future.

So it is quite important still.

Also theres no reason that they can't multi-task, the membership/marketing department wouldn't be too busy sourcing a sponsor that would be left upto Schwab and Stynes to sort out...

Hopefully something is in the pipeline, but seeing as this is the ideal time to be attracting new members I'm not predicting it will.

Its not really the right time of year for this sort of promotion anyway - I can imagine once the season is in full swing they'd start to use him, if the agreement stands

I'll say what I want.

And in my opinion your requests for more updates are unreasonable.

Accept it.

your like reeling in a fish shaft, i really enjoy it.

Not really. It takes me not even 30 seconds to reply to your nonsense & I don't invest anything emotionally in what you say.

But thats enough for today, I hate arguing with idiots. You know what they say...

yeah just read the barassi bashed helping woman thread, then people will now who the fool is.

I have to laugh when I head people whinging about not hearing enough from the club, compare what we get now to what we got a few years ago. Yet another email today, the club is constantly in touch at the moment

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
