I think that this is a pretty good reflection of where the Dees stand at the moment.

It's always easy to forget, when we were getting smashed, just how young our players are.

If you lookat this line up; Bartram, Garland, Frawley, Pettered, Buckley, Dunn, Bate, Wona, Valenti and Morton have all had significant experience now at AFL level.

Another pre-season and a bit more experience just makes me think how many exciting times we have ahead of us as a young and developing team! We're (almost) the Hawks of a few years ago, and look where they are!

Posted

You can do a quick look at how many players we have over 25 and the analysis is just as interesting and pleasing... Bruce, Davey, Green, Jamar, Miller, Robertson, Wheatley, Whelan, McDonald. Of those McDonald, and maybe Robbo, possibly Whelan... and if he has a bad one Jamar might be gone within a year due to retirements, delistings, injury etc etc.

And of your 22 players there, even if only 2/3rds of them came through, we still have a strong core all the same age.

Still all under 21 but you could be excused for thinking there becoming snr players. imagine how good some of these guys could be when they are 25 not to mention the next crop coming through as well.

A bit presumptuous to get too carried away with any of the names listed ,at this stage !

20. Bartram

21. Valenti

22. Spencer

Yes, I do think Frawley will end up a better player than Garland. I just think that he will end up bulking up into a very big backmen, that has a good burst of speed. I think Garland may struggle to put on kilograms.

It doesn't matter that Garland won't bulk up massively, he will be a fletcher type backman. Anyway i disagree with many of that. My list:

1. Watts

2. Morton

3. Garland

4. Jones

5. Buckley

6. Petterd

7. Bate

8. Grimes

9. Blease

10. Strauss

you're comparing garland to dustin fletcher? garland is is 8cm shorter than fletcher. garland is the same height as joel corey for Gods sake. 8cm is massive! A player with that difference in height simply cannot be compared.

I think garland will make a career fighting out of his weight division just like fletcher did. I see the same similarities such as ability to read play, beat bigger apponents etc. So I don't think that type of comparison is that far off.

I'm actually expecting that line up V Hawthorn in the NAB Cup, with a sprinkling of seasoned players.

Can you pass me the salt n' pepper, BBP....

missed the point completely. fletcher is 8cm taller. this means that garland will be fighting out of his weight AND height division.

Fletcher is also about 100kilos, so more often than not he's taller AND heavier than his opponent

Matthew Scarlett is only 192cm. How tall was Silvanghi?

I think the comparisons with Fletcher are vaild. Whilst indeed there is a bit of a difference in terms of physical proportions Garland has similar "go-go gadget" arms, a feature Fletcher made synonmous with his game. Garland has the abillity to spoil seemingly out of nowhere. Regardless there is no doubt that Garland in terms of talent alone should be ranked within the top 3 fo the clubs youngsters. Who says he has to play strictly full back. His abillity to match up on small oponents e.g. Didak only adds versatillity to our backline. Add him to the likes of Martin, Frawley and Warnock. :o:o

No he isn't, he had a 70% efficiency rate this year while doing it all on his own in the packs in the middle. While it isn't a great efficiency rate it obviously can be worked on.

It's funny how people on this site go with the groupthink, one week people were praising him then as a couple of people start bagging him everyone jumps on.

A good example of this was his game against West Coast where he got 30 posessions at 90% efficiency, an outstanding match overall. Then people on this site were bagging him after the match for his bad disposal :o Sometimes i wonder if people actually watch the game and form their own opinions.

Look I don't think Jones is a bad footballer and in hindsight I really was having a bit of a troll ranking him 16th on my talent list.

However.....

How many times have you seen Jones hit a forward lace out?

Don't give me crap how about that's not his specific role. All "A" grade inside midfielders in the modern game e.g. your Sam Mitchell's and Joel Corey's have far superior kicking skills to Jones. If were going to challenge for a premiship he needs to get his kicking up to scratch or either pick up about 20 hard ball gets a game just to justify his position.

I for one more than anyone hopes Jonesy can improve on these deficiencies in his game.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
