DEMON SUMMIT 2008

Featured Replies

Heard Jimmy call us the "Family Club" at one point

well the MCG is the 'home of football' and i doubt that'll change

Hawthorn currently use the Family club have for years and it has paid off

the people's club could see us try and pick up all those "non football" people

eg - INternational peoples day - have a day where you show your international passport and get free entry

- Police/fire/Ambulance day - were workers and there families get free entry

even if we pick up a handful of supporters things like this are worth a try, at the worst we will have a bigger crowd on the day meaning more revenue for the MCG/MFC

MFC have to start thinking outside the square

Clubroom access is currently a perk of premium membership access.

What kids have premium ???? all for making extra dollars on the premium but should open it up to the rank and file even if only for 5-6 games a year

Sooooo....

How many people are going to this event? I reckon the more of all us "Demonlanders" going with our ideas the better!

Perhaps we should start putting some ideas here in this thread that are free for people to who are going to the Demon Summit to use?

I have siad it before and would love to see it implemented, I got the idea from an email the club sent asking membership questions:

Have a 'games attended' count for members and make a scarfe available for purchase before each season that has the number shown. Or as a membership option for the more expensive packages.

It just provides that extra incentive to turn up to games, it would also be a mark of respect to have a big number to show off, I would certainly be impressed to see Melbourne supporters who have attended lots of games.

3 parts are required in the production of these scarves;

1: Database made available by the MCG/dome etc. showing the ticket numbers of attendess for each game.

2: Cleaning of the data to pull out the number of attended games for each ticket.

3: Production of a scarfe.

1 could be negotiated with the MCC, surely they have the ability to suply the data

2 could be helped by demonlanders/ologists who have any computer literacy, it really couldn;'t be that hard

Could someone put this idea forward, I can't make it to the ideas summit.

I like the idea B2L, not sure if it's as easy as you say but i, or someone else here, will do our best to put it forward. (I'm just not sure what format the groups will have)

I still like the idea of paying extra for MFC/MCC membership to have your MCC card have MFC on it. I go every week but never get to use an MFC card (except when i swipe in twice of course)

You don't need to attend the summit to suggest ideas.

IIRC the summit email and/or application form invited people to contact the Club directly with their ideas.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just got an email from the club now about it, should be a good day!

Good to see the club being proactive!

Who else is going?

if u think my idea has any merit, could u please think about suggesting it

it is further up the thread

just got my email inviting me to the summit on the 16 nov at the G.

You know that you can contact the Club directly, and that when the Club sent out the email re: Demon Summit they in fact requested that people send in their ideas?

i do now

As Rogue has said, you can contact the club directly, but i'll happily put it forward if you want. No harm in adding emphasis.

I think it has a very good community feel to it, and i like the idea. Obviously it would need to be worked through more, but a very good start.

By the way, North Fitzroy Fete Sunday the 9th of November from 10 am, great day

great brombonians think alike

Got invited, but i'll be interstate that weekend

I did not get invited so I'll air my thoughts here.

As it looks as though we are moving to Casey, I was thinking a Casey vs. Melbourne game. You know like a VFL vs AFL, David and Goliath stuff, it could played Pre-Season. The media would love it and I'm sure the AFL (and moreso) the VFL would back it. Furthermore, they could play it at Casey Fields to promote Melbourne's move there as like a family day as well, face painting, membership tents etc.

Also to boost sponsorship i was looking at a English Premier Leagues website (Man City) and there is a preliminary page to the website, usually advertising coming games tickets or a good deal from one of its sponsors. We could do this to enhance our attractiveness to current and/or possible sponsors.

If someone wants to pass that on to big Jimma, that would be appreciated.

I doubt that MFC v Casey has any legs, although I guess if would be a filip for success-starved MFC supporters. It would be a % booster too.

Casey is competitive with other VFL teams only when it has AFL players added to its pool of VFL players. Take out the AFL players and the resultant team of Scorpions players only would be a very weak team made up with a lot of players who play VFL reserves. Hardly competition for an AFL club.

You could, though, play a novelty match where 2 teams made up of players from both clubs played each other.

Bit like in the school yard where teams were picked turn about.

That could be a family day, promotional game played at Casey Fields.

i reckon that would be fun!

Get the supporters out, 4 15 minute quarters. Shot for goal challenges for supporters at half time. No reason why it shouldn't at least be put forward. The match would be little more than a training session, but a good way to expose the dees to the local community

cool. You could call it an "intraclub practice match".

More like an intraclubs practice match

i have posted this idea before and got no support from the so called Melbourne faithful, we knocked back but still i think have the option to have our own changerooms at the G. thats right ours and nobody else`s. the Tigers took up the offer. the clubs answer was we want the players to run out in front of the members ( meaning the MCC) they are the first to go when then going is tough. our own changerooms would be situated roughly on the 50m arc city end opposite the MCC. for this young group of players to prepare for home games surrounded by murals of past greats on the walls would be inspiring. i sit with the Redlegs and could not care less if players parachuted in , i would stand and cheer my boys all the same. does anyone else care?

not really that much, but i sit in the members and love to have them run out near me

but i think having our own change rooms could mean a lot to everyone at the club

as someone suggested, our club websight should have a prelim page like the roos used to

to be used as 1)advertising

2) easy link for membership and debt demolition

3) easy to find info about our next game

this is what he was talking about

http://www.mcfc.co.uk/mcfc/splashpage/stan...=24167&bg=1

and then at the bottom, it says "enter page"

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
