McGuane, Reiwoldt, Pattison, Thursfield and there is another young guy whos name escapes me, has been playing full back recently and doing a pretty good job....... are fairly handy "Developing" talls.

I too dislike Wallace and Richmond but if you are going to slate them, its only fair to be accurate.... saying they only have 2 talls is a fair way off the mark and makes the poster look like an ill informed idiot.

They are more advanced in the tall department than us...... Miller aside and he's only just.... we have zero tall goal kicking presence and they look handy down back... I like Thursfield... he's a real competitor and he's beginning to get a bit of bulk.... McGuane is a good dour defender, he'll keep getting better and Kelvin Moore is really starting to come on.....

Like I said.... it pays to be accurate. Richmond are a fair way ahead of us.

Sleeve, I see what you're saying, but the point is that they have had 5 years more development than us.

Not only should they be ahead of us, now is when they should be starting to press for high finishes, not scraping into top 10 finishes.

If they pick up some good kids, and get rid of the dead wood, i think with a good coach they can do good things. They just need a good coach

As you have rightly pointed out the names you speak of are only developing and have yet to nab any KPP position as their own. They are only work in progress.

They only have one ruckman in Simmonds at 31 and they have only Richo as a match winning tall. They were there at the start of Wallace's time and Richmond have made no serious inroads in addressing that issue. And that has been a deliberate recruitment decision by the Tigers brain trust. Its worth remembering that every time they see Tambling running around....they could have had Franklin.

Five years is coming up and there is very little to show for it at Tigerland.

What MFC has or does not have is neither here nor there in regard to Richmond. We have a new football department who understand the need to address some of our chronic issues that were inherited from the previous administration. MFC are at a different I would be pretty disappointed if MFC were in a similar state after 4 years with Bailey that Richmond are with Wallet.

Indeed. Obviously Richmond are a better side than us right now.

However, if we compare Richmond today with where we'll be in a few years time, after Bailey's had a chance to re-mould the list (as Wallace has), I'm confident we'll be streets ahead.

Look, I agree with much of what you're saying, I figured that it was a bit of a stretch claiming they had "no" talls outside of Richo and Simonds( Who I don't actually rate that highly ). Had you qualified your statement in your initial post and added the "Match Winning" part..... then sure.

Reiwoldt will make it, Moore will make it, as will Thursfield. So they are not entirely bare of talls. I'd suspect at least 1 of those, probably Reiwoldt will need to stand up next year and kick 40-50 goals for the Tigers to be competitive with the top sides.

Ever since Wallace has been there Richmond have had significant deficiencies in leadership, skill and KPPs. In that time Wallace has focussed recruitment of light bodied running players and punted on a couple of hacks from other Clubs (eg Knobel, Graham, Heath Black and Stafford).And he has still got Tivendale!. He traded Fiora for Black.

Three-way deal to get Troy Simmonds.... whilst Simmonds has not set the world on fire and suffered a few injuries, Richmond clearly win on that deal.

Unless the Tigers can produce a remarkable turn around in performance (and gameplan and possibly personnel) you'd have to think they've blown another shot at finals.

Surely if they miss them this year, Wallace would have to be a goner. There's only so many 5 year plans you can have.

Why the sudden interest in the fortunes of the Tigers? Those who spit on coaches shall never receive any sympathy from me They still believe they are one of the "Power Clubs" of the AFL, sure didn't look like it last sunday Arvo. Seems to me they are in a far worse position than ourselves, as a good half of that team shall retire within 2-3 years. Finishing 9th again will just make them more average-good. None of the accredited "talls" at Richmond have established anything yet. They are not established players and have not fulfilled their promise anymore than MFC prospects. If Reiwoldt kicks 40 to 50 goals next year then they can claim one. At this point they cant. They are lucky they are getting a sunset life out of Richo because it would only highlight the problem they have if he was not there.

I feel this board is too focussed on the Demons, which is fine to a degree, and ignores what's happening in the greater domain in footy.

It doesn't detract from the focus on the Dees, and can serve to enlighten debate on Melbourne related arguments.

Richmond has been the worst performing victorian club for 30 years

When they were a power they had a good club culture and developed some great players and competitive teams

Their player development and recruiting has been pathetic for ages

Neither do I. Wallace came out saying if his side didn't make the finals next season, he doesn't expect to be coaching beyond 2009 with the Richmond Football Club.

Richmond is going nowhere fast. As evidenced on the weekend, they are not even close to matching it with the better teams, and against teams around them on the ladder they can't string 4 quarters together (their 3rd quarter against Brisbane would have cost them the game had the Lions kicked straight). Their skills are at times as bad as ours can be. Yes, they've won 5 games more than last year but they've beaten crap teams. And when they lose, they lose big (average losing margin of 41.8 points).

Unless Richmond shoots up the ladder next year (i.e. makes the finals), Wallace won't be there after 2009. If they start the season really poorly (such as we did this year), he won't see the season out.

Interesting to see Malthouse come out in support of wallace at yesterday's press conference. Geez, Micky hates the media..
