Cant wait to get him back. Hopefully his 100% soon and can have a big pre season.

Bring on '09.

Once again a footballer is tragically struck down with a horrible tattoo.

He's lucky he's an awesome footballer, because that tattoo is disgraceful!

Fancy getting your own name tattooed all over your back... just how drunk was he when this piece of magic was permanently engraved on his body?! :o:wacko:

Regardless of his shocking taste in tattoos, it's good to hear he is getting daily treatment for torn abdominal/groin muscles (ouch!) and that he thinks he'll be right to go next year. I'm looking forward to the return of a fit and firing Rivers (and yes, I'm a believer).

in a way it might be a good thing that he 'tore' some muscles rather than just aggrevated some more injuries. it is forcing him to sit around and do absolutely nothing while they heal. he is also seeing a specialist in the region of the op stuff so hopefully he is making sure everything is right to go.

it looks like he is having a forced 3-4 month lay off which should be good for his recovery.

i wonder if the time in SA will affect his 'go home' switch in anyway? it could reignite the latent want to return home, or it could satisfy the craving to spend more time back home...

It could probably go either way.

However, I'm sure he's built a life for himself in Melbourne, and it's probably good that he's able to get away from the Club and spend some time catching up with friends and family while doing the rehab work, rather than sit around in Victoria while his peers are involved with footy.

If he can get his body right, he'll be a handy 'recruit' in '09.

Agree. Why do they do it?

So drunk he might know even realise its there or how he got it. I have often wondered what attention seeking gene it is to have a loud tattoo that you cant see but everyone else can

Once recovered he will be fit enough to have "Such is life" circumferencing his navel in gothic lettering. :D

While this is known world-wide as the worst tattoo ever, it's a bit like a car crash, ugly but you just can't look away... might have something to do with the placement of said tattoo. He could have a giant tattoo of Elmo smoking a joint on his lower abdomen and it still wouldn't look so bad

Please tell me that tatt on his back does not say "rivers"

Oh lordy lord it does too!

Anyway, I've already forgiven him.

I really hope they can strenghthen his core. If he can come to preseason fully fit and ready to train we're basically recruiting a gun backmen for 09.

Let's hope the damage can heal, I guess I have my doubts but I'm really hoping he comes good. Adding his courage and talent to our backline as a 3rd or even 4th quality player would give us a bloody good back half.

FB: Whelan Warnock Rivers

HB: Buckley Martin Garland

Also: CJohnson, Bell, Frawley

Maybe even putting Garland up forward next to Watts

FF: Wona Miller Maric

HF: Sylvia Watts Bate

Also: Newton (possibly wishful thinking), Davey

Maybe even Zomer

Is it starting to look good or am I so one eyed that I just love 'em all

I'll need help deciding that but this looks pretty good

If we do get Watts, I would not expect much out of him in his first year given he wants to focus on his VCE year in 2009.

More longer term.

Oh goodness, are you serious? Someone needs to get down there and straighten them out.

It's in case they forget their names... they can chase their own back trying to identify who they are after a big night out

Apparently, Jared woke up in the morning, looked at in the mirror and then realised that they'd written his name backwards.

Yep, looks like rivers,

nothing wrong with getting your family name, most just get it done with the family crest, like riccutio has.

Been sitting here for twenty mins trying to think of a defence for the poor boy. There isn`t one. Very bad tattoo. But don`t worry JR i got one too !!!!!

scroll up the thread a bit

Any truth in the rumour that he's got a tattoo even lower that says "wrong way go back"?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
