Sad way for Rhino to bow out.

Yeah, where is Rhino these days?

Looking forward to the long cold nights, I hope Harris' immediate retirement won't influence the balance of the team. But we will miss him.

England win the toss and bat.

The Marsh brothers miss out and Voges & Watson get the nod ahead.

Lets hope for at least 2 wickets in the first session. 3+ would be great!

great start for australia.

Was a shocking over, but will take the wicket!

Cook looking dangerous already.

I certainly don't want to go praising the enemy to quickly, but they're looking good at the crease.

Very busy.

Hope that drop doesn't turn out costly, he's looking good!

Although I said the same thing about Cook just before he got out, so hopefully that means Root will go out in the first few overs after lunch.

Already is a big let off, he looks so comfortable.

The batsmen out would be so disappointed, dead wicket and in the main poor poor bowling.

Yep, as you mentioned we're already missing Harris at the moment.

Watson may be useful on this wicket with his line & length. Siddle also.

Having said that, the three quicks picked have certainly deserved first crack.

Pegged the run rate back a little since lunch and a few half chances with edges not going to hand.

Get Root and the rest could go quickly!

Funny session that one. I thought we bowled better, but nil wickets.

The wicket looks like an absolute road, but hopefully we can maybe get them 6 down by stumps to be on track to keep them to under any type of huge score.

Mitchell Starc has been a concern in the first two sessions, looks back to bowling the way he was before Warne gave him that massive spray. He played a few tests last Ashes Series in England, so doesn't have the excuse of not knowing the conditions.

Fingers crossed for a big final session.

Interesting first day, momentum shifted back and forth a few times. Hopefully we'll be able to get them out quickly tomorrow and put our bats to work. Not very impressed with the bowling, though Starc did seem to come into his own towards the end of the day before the cramps set in.

Pitch is a road so 7 wickets on Day 1 is quite good, but how many times in his career have we said that a Haddin drop has defined the day? If he'd held that (easy) catch, there's a fair chance they'd have been bowled out on Day 1.

Hazlewood was great. Starc got better but opened terribly. Johnson was no good.

Bloody Haddin dropped root too!!!

Hope that drop doesn't turn out costly, he's looking good!

Somebody on this thread once said "its the ones they dont take that end up costing the most"

Always have said his misses{easy}are the killer for picking a keeper and not a batsmen/keeper

Didn't see any of the last session, but to have them 7 down is alright, especially on that wicket.

Knock them over for 380 or less and then bat well to make 500 and we take control.

Important day coming up! Hope we bowl better in the morning then we did yesterday.

Was it just me that thinks we were done over on that over turn?

I've watched the replay several times now, and every time it looks to me that Voges gets it in both hands before hitting the wicket.

Seems that Broad gets the benefit every time it's the 1st Test of an Ashes series in England....

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
