It begs the question,

Is the socialism of the AFL protecting us from folding/merging/moving or is it keeping us from growing??

Would you be prepared to sacrifice the competative balance fund for a draw that is random, and one that sees Collingwood play as many sunday afternoon games as us?

Can anyone shed light in what years Melbourne and Collingwood played on Queen's Birthday? I know it happened in the 50s and 60s but it didn't continue in the 70s and 80s?

As i remember it dropped off in the Late 70's But was definately back from Northey Days onwards

Nice to see Im not alone in thinking Vlads' doctrine is nothing short of pathological dictatorship.

Tradition existed before he was born. He understands nothing of it..absolutely nothing.

where the socialism comes in is the TV rights... what does it cost the AFL to put on a game of football? nothing, yet they are the ones who get all the TV rights money...

if socialism was truely removed from the game, then every club would be able to sell their home games to television providers themselves, or would receive the TV rights money directly... then affiliation fees would be paid back to the AFL...

to answer your question I think both... it is protecting us from folding/merging/moving while the AFL choose to protect us, whilst it is also stopping us from growing by not giving us access to funds we generate for the AFL but never receive...

Forget the haunting of Round 11 — we’ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10–2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbane’s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
