Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That's the type of scummy comment you expect from a Filth supporter, what a disgrace.

Bell's out of form and should be dropped. If this happens I hope he regains his form of last year and makes a quick return to the seniors, I sure as hell hope he doesnt injure himself and never gets that opportunity, not sure what sort of a feral slimebag would wish that upon anyone.

someone who thinks DB has made a massive mistake bringing him in the side with his form this year thats who. It seems without injury this player wont be dropped

I prefer to look at the upside.........strong body, good pace, one of the best tacklers in the team, and as courageous as the day is long! He is a solid mark, and when his confidence is up, he is an accurate and penetrating kick.

These are the perfect attributes of a HFF/CHF !!!

wasnt his best game, he is a good player just not playing well, but i dont hear any one saying anything about Morton ... Gun and will be a superstar but 3 easy shots on goal.. all missed

he said, i said bla bla bla. Realistically he will never make it. Over his career he hasnt strung good multiple games toghether and his decision making or lack of has cost us in him 50 or so games. I'v had it with him.

Yawn. So you mentioned. Got anything constructive to say or do you specialise in tedium?

He was going to be omitted twice, but came in after a late injury.

IMO Wheatley is played somewhat out of position.

I'd love to see him on a wing

I've been saying that for ages - would be good.

I've always liked Bell, but killed us at crucial stages coming out of defence yesterday, should go back to Sandy and run himself into some kind of form... but the issue is which small defenders are up to the task?

Whelan!

I think he needs a spell at Sandy and then perhaps needs to play a different possy... But my biggest problem with him are his kick-ins!!!!!! What was he thinking kicking it in the vicinity of Leon Davis yesterday lol! That said, TJ wasn't too good either... we've never really had a good kicker-in-er!

Good point 'Real Demon'.

I know Belly personally and i see him once a week. Last week i asked him about the status of Juice and about the future of himself (Bell). He said that "I would love a crack up forward, maybe kick a few goals to get my confidence up, but i know that it is very unlikely to happen as bails thinks i'm needed up back". Later in our conversation i asked him what position he played in junior footy. He replied "I was drafted as a Midfielder/Forward, more a forward". Then i asked how many goals he kicked. He replied "i kicked quite a few, and in a state game (playing for South Australia) i kicked 5 goals and got best on ground".

So guys, what do you think. Maybe Belly, after his recent poor performances should have a go as a Forward Flanker in the absence of Robbo. With his strong body and strong hands he could be a great option.

I love Belly's endeavour, but his decision-making is often disgraceful and he has absolutely no peripheral vision. I really hope the guy can turn the corner because he had a really solid year last year.

PS - He should never kick in again.

You've summed it up - he's had a poor year with more chances to consolidate than others vying for spots - time to make way and find some form at Sandy..and please no more kick-ins ..

I noticed his whole demenour changed when moved further up the ground against the Lions and have been saying ever since that he needs to be played in the middle or across half forward. He seemed far more relaxed and suddenly was executing his foot skills so much better. Please, please Bails - give the kid a break and release him from the backline.

Perhaps switch Sylvia down back like he was several weeks ago and did very well.

Daniel Bell = has made it. Don't look now but he's 24 odd and is going to rack up 100 games, with us or someone else.

dont give him/her/it too much credit...

there are prob only one or two who would go the distance in that race, and thankfully we dont see them much these days...

Belly is in a hard spot as a bloke who sometimes plays tall (less so now thanks to Garland and Warnock), always helps out his other backmen (sometimes screwing up doing that), and is the only one with the skills in the backline to properly rebound except for Wheatley.

There is a lot on his shoulders, and I do think he will be dropped this week but I really think there is a future for him.

Agree.

It would be great if any of Petterd, Grimes, Buckley, Bode, or Chris Johnson could shoulder some of the load running the ball out of defence. It's a shame we're having to swap between an out-of-form Bell and a pinch-hitting Sylvia or Green to help out Wheatley and Bruce.

It would also be good, naturally, if Matthew Whelan could find his way back onto the park - though perhaps his work is better done showing the way in Sandy?

over the top and you havnt thought that out.

which of those players would play the same role as bell?

bode? too small.

frawley? too tall.

buckley? not a backman. not strong enough.

CJ? at the moment, perhaps. the only reason is that his role has changed. last year CJ couldnt have filled bellys role (even the way CJ is playing now), which is similar to wheatlys role.

i think this is one of the main problems with bells game this year. he is out of sorts, out of form and struggling. but he is not allowed to play the role he excelled at last year, which was the mid sized defender.

last year he got didak. who did he get this year? he is now being asked to provide run and be an attacking player, whereas last year he was a mid sized defender spoiling the the strong marking of players like williams and didak, who are too quick for the talls.

he plays his best when he can use his speed and height to spoil the ball, and restrict these types of players in the D50. playing this role he can also provide some run and rebound. but atm he is being asked to be the main instigator of that run and rebound, especially with green playing up forward a lot this week.

his kicking is ok. his handballing is subpar. the biggest problem is that he doesnt clear the area with handballs he just knocks it out, normally to an opposition. getting run down from behind often indicates teammates arent talking to him.

but seriously, he has cost goals by getting caught, but who have his direct opponents been and how many goals have they been kicking. i think he is getting lost.

Last year he was GREAT .... this year he has gone so far backwards its crazy.

one thing which did impress me when i watched the replay his kick on goal was from inside the centre sqaure!

apart from that it was very ugly he cost us atleast 2 goals.

as for frawley being to tall ... why is that a problem? if anything its a plus, we all know frawley is still pri fast

and buckley is not that strong i know, but i guess he might provide more run from the back, at times on monday bartram was back playing on didak, but i think he is hardly a "strong" defender and he seemed to do well on a few occasions.

u got

Carroll Whelan Garland Warnock Wheatley Frawley Bode CJ bell

i think bells spot in the team is easily replacable, these players might not replace him directly but a re-jig of the side and he is out the door.

i think u will agree.

Only further proving my point. No-one's trying to say he's going to be the next Johncock/McLeod etc etc...

But plenty of good solid players have good years followed by off-form ones. Drop him to the twos, get him to find some form, play CJ or whoever to see if he has what it takes...

Simple really, and no need to dig the boot in, writing him off for his career as you so astutely have.

We whinge and moan about players never playing well. Bell has actually shown for what is tantamount to a full year that he's made the grade... we have a list chock full of guys who have had years in the system and never been good enough to play a whole season and play it well. Jamar, CJ, Newton... but we still love them and don't hurl abuse at them.

For the record I saw Bell manning up Medhurst a lot of the day and he didn't have as much influence as he has had in other games this year. Also, when kicking in did you see ANYONE make a definitive lead? In the last quarter we were atrocious in our set-up.

That's a painfully small intellect you've got there, mate. Yr becoming something of a spectacle.

Perhaps if you read more slowly you may understand more quickly?

Try this:

It

is

not

a

question

of

Bell = McLeod

or

Bell = useless.

There are positions in between.

See how you go with that quite basic and entirely reasonable premise, and if you're still having trouble, you might like to try slamming your head in a cupboard and/or car door a few times.

It may not make you smarter, but on the upside, it could hardly make you dumber.

no i dont agree. your arguement is flawed. 'bell is easily replacable, but they might not replace him directly' ? what type of statement is that?

my point was that bells role is not the sweeper. its not the loose possessions. yes he should provide run, but he is primarily there to stop his man, and he does that well. i dont back bode or cj to stop the players bell can stop. frawley isnt as fast as bell and doesnt look to have the closing speed to play on the small uick leading players. wheatly plays his best ooty when unaccountable for the opposition, getting the ball and kicking long. and carroll, garland, rivers and warnock are fighting for the 3 tall positions. wheelan isnt on the park, but he competes more lcosely with bell than any of the others you have mentioned.

bell will prob get dropped and have a rest. but there isnt a like for like replacement on this list. he has attributes that put him above the others if he finds form in his attacking game.

u say whelan is a better chance than any, when he is the smallest of the lot. bode is about 4-5cm smaller than bell. and i think ur grossly overrating bells speed and agility, when frawley would be the same if not better.

'bell is easily replacable, but they might not replace him directly' ? what type of statement is that? it means he is playing [censored] and deserves to be dropped and any player put in his place could prob do a better job for the time being, if not another player can come in and player (unknown) could be moved into bells POSITION which also u are grossly overrating (ur making it sound like BELL KPP? )

your giving to much credit to a player that has done [censored] all year,he might have stopped is opponent at times, but he doesnt help out his team mates, he has no awareness and as shown on monday he consistantly creates COSTLY TURNOVERS,

ur basing ur whole argument on height and speed when height can hardly be considered significant

unless u can give me there agility and 20 m sprint results from draft camp i might review my opinion

I think that's about right. Everyone has form drop offs... but you'd be a moron if you siggested he's played badly ALL YEAR. He's had some good games... as a defender when you play well you're invisible. WHen you play badly it's ALL your fault.

As the people who are in the know keep saying, he's no star, but then where is it written that he has to be? He's a late first round pick... no-one was expecting him to dominate. A Wheatley-like career would be a good return...

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
