  1. League teams who would miss it if you were lucky enough to be around at the time. And I suspect they may have had a few by the time they came on around 10.30 p.m as they started down at the Pheonix on radio when the teams were available around 8.30 p.m. Such chemistry when you look at the 3 wise monkeys, small man, motor mouth Lou, big enforcer, hardman, the less said the better, Jack Dyer and the Geelong Flyer Bobby Davis as the middle man with that amazing drawl and laugh. Great TV on a par with Roy and HG on This Sporting Life and above anything else produced on sport in this country that I remember. Yes WOS had great moments but it wasn't all about Lou and it didn't mean to be funny, though it always was due to production problems and the individuals involved.
  2. One measure would be wins versus losses I would have thought!
  3. 1 Viney 2 Jones 3 Hunt 4 Frost 5 Pederson 6 Lewis
  4. Just got home from the ground, via several well known Fitzroy licensed venues. I think I have now settled down enough to be rational. The lack of a legitimate big ruckman is costing us big time. Pedo battled well around the ground but in the period that JMac played ruck we were smashed down back with Roughie and McEvoy taking uncontested high marks and goaling. Up forward we are missing an alternative big target other than Jesse. So many times today we belted it forward to no target and rarely in the first half did we have the smalls under the forward pack, ready to pounce. In the third quarter it all clicked, we needed the third quarter to go another 5 minutes and the last quarter to go at least another 2 minutes to win. If we had our best list available, Max or Spencil would be tracking McEvoy forward and occasionally they would be forward to snaffle a high mark and thus making McEvoy accountable. Again we didn't help ourselves at selection. Any one of Stretch, ANB, Harmes or Kent may have made the difference, in place of JKH or Hannan. And can the backline coach get the talls not to all fly together, can someone stay down? And if you are going to fly and punch, can we punch toward the boundary and not straight up in the air. Oh for an Anthony Ingerson. and yes the Roughie testimonial didn't help, hands in back for his first goal, then not pinged for shoving his opponent out of the way well before the ball arrived in the zone allowing another Hawk to mark and goal, then there was that push in the back goal where he went to ground for a missed chest mark and Frosty followed him down. I hate that interpretation of in the back, it is not why the rule exists. It exists to stop a player pushing you out from behind in a marking contest, a la Roughie in the first quarter. It was not created for someone who lands in the back of a player diving forward for a chest mark or who deliberately falls forward in a contest. And the free in the last that he missed, what was that one about?
  5. I am sure you have Uncle but sorry what are you talking about? Sorry I have been out of the loop this week, what with being summoned to the Palace at short notice this week by Her Majesty. You can imagine my apprehension on the 20 hour flight to London as I presumed the worst, perhaps it was a life threatening health issue for our Majesty or our own Sir Prince Phillip! Or perhaps Her Majesty was planning to abdicate in favour of Prince Charles, in which case I would be asked to take on even higher honours, I am sure, as we were both class captains at Timbertop all those years ago. However it transpired that I was informed by Her Majesty in a personal audience at the Palace that Prince Phillip will be withdrawing from Public life in August some 30 years after he should have, in her words! Anyway I have just landed back in time for tomorrow's clash somewhat jet lagged to all this chatter.
  6. With the Fairfax journo's on strike I suspect The Age editors are grabbing anything that comes in from a half respected source. I liked the list it looks like it was compiled by Bastards Incorporated!
  7. Shirley you must be joking!
  8. My wife took her students to a Reach event today in Collingwood, to find the guest speaker was big Max. She said he was very good talking about his early struggles with injury, jimmy providing inspiration and a troubled family life. Big hit with the kids. At lunch my wife ducked around the corner to Proud Mary's only find Max there having a coffee with someone who from my wife's description sounded like Col Garland. Full day at Reach then backing up for a podcast! Busy day for Big Max!
  9. Well I think we will be in the market for a tall forward at trade time this year, whether it's Reid who knows.
  10. Perish the thought!!! No.
  11. Yes Jack is Jack and he does make some frustrating blunders at times, dropped chest marks in contests for example but really in his games this year he has delivered in spades, up forward, down back, in the ruck. His kicking and decision making is often elite, however his contesting isn't always but compared to a lot of the mediocre stuff happening around him on game day by us and our opposition means I have given him top votes in the last 2 or 3 games.
  12. I googled this claim by ADC at the time believing the same point you make only to find, yes Raptors do have extraordinary binocular vision and they see detail we will never see but eagles and Hawks also have 320 degree peripheral vision compared to our 180 degrees. So Fact Check in this case says the claim is basically true!
  13. What about chasing Gunston, the Dorks will be looking for trade options at the end of the year.
  14. Joe actually had 9 shots at goal. He was allowed 2 attempts by the Ump at the goal he kicked, if you remember, George.
  15. Was just on SEN drafted in 2010, played mainly Casey seconds, I don't remember him at all. Talked about playing college football (grid iron) as a punter in front of 110,000 fans regularly. Does that mean US colleges have stadiums the size of the MCG? Doesn't seem credible.
  16. 6 Watts 5 Pedersen 4 Oliver 3 Petracca 2 Jones 1 T-Mac
  17. Gee I hope someone takes out Mumford one day big time. The guys a loose cannon thug.
  18. Hmm think the MRP will judge unintentional, high contact, low impact, one week, down to zero with a guilty plea! It's the love child team after all.
  19. Mono no crystal ball needed here. The thread is about list management, my translation is contingency planning; planning for the worst, while hoping for the best, of course. We went into the season with two experienced ruckman, both of whom have had injuries over the years. The backup was Mitch King who would not be ready till mid season at best following his knee reco. The question was asked of the club As I remember it about bringing in an experienced ruck journeyman thru the trade period but Josh Mahoney replied we would go thru the draft for a ruck. It turned out to be Filipovic, a skinny kid, miles away from AFL. So here we are with 2 injured rucks, one young ruck still in rehab, an 18 year old playing in the development league and no other player on the list at 200 cm who can at least compete physically. For heavens sake this is the MFC, always expect the worst, at least I have since 1994 and been proven right most years. As I pointed out in an earlier post the Hawks, who traditionally don't get many injuries, have 6 ruck options on their list! They have kept Fitzy going around with no intention of playing him, he is just insurance, while brining in Vickery. These players don't claim to be ruckman but they are 200 cm plus bodies who can play that role. Again I say unacceptably poor list management by MFC for 2017 and it is going to cost us finals. And can I also add that playing finals this year would have been an important stepping stone and experience for our team to push toward a flag
  20. I remember having this discussion before last year's trade period with some fellow Demon fans, we discussed how vital Max would be and if he got injured we also discussed that Spencer was a good back up but was also prone to injury, missing weeks over the past few years. We also discussed that Mitch King had done his knee and wouldn't be in contention till what mid this season? So we had 2 ruckman for 2017 really. So we hoped they would search out a mature ruck forward type in the trade period as insurance. I remember the response from the club was no we will go to the draft and we got the young and skinny Filipovic. Thus we entered 2017 with two ruck options. Forget hindsight or foresight, this is poor list management. You plan for the worst and hope for the best, that is planning, list numbers restrict your decisions but how many specialist positions are there in today's game? We can always cover midfielders, small forwards, half back flankers to a better or worse degree. The game is about 2 rucks, 15 midfielders and a key back and a key forward. We have left ourselves exposed for the next 6 weeks with few options. And may I say it is only a matter of time before Jack Watts gets taken out physically in the ruck by a Mumford type. And that would be doubly tragic for Jack and MFC. Can I also point out that my wife who is a Hawthorn fan points out that they have 5 ruck options, McEvoy, Ceglar, another rookie plus Fitzy and this year Vickory. All players around 200 cm. In short poor planning by us. And if you add Roughy that is 6 options in an emergency.
  21. Yes I was screaming a number of times for someone to protect the back of the throw ins in the second half in particular. Very basic football to protect the corridor space especially when you know your ruckman is undersized and not going to win the taps. Some blame has to go to the coaches, runners should have out there to tell the midfield to cover the corridor and be between the opponent and their goals at all stoppages as we were trying to defend a 20 pt lead with an undermanned side.

  23. But we don't get value for our dominance should be 2 goal up at least
