  1. Grinter on Mew in the 1987 Prelim for me. Neitz is twice the size of McCabe, and while it was an awesome hip and shoulder, I rate the Grinters bump on Mew just ahead of it. Of the non-Melbourne bumps, Earl Spalding on Guy McKenna late in the 1995 season at Subiaco was an absolute bone rattler.
  2. True, had anyone of either Eishold, Campbell or Yeats kicked the goals they should have, umpiring decisions that went against Melbourne wouldn't have mattered and Hawthorn wouldn't have won.
  3. Very deceptive heading to this thread if people haven't actually read the article. Perhaps a bit dramatic with the "ONE OF THE WORST teams of the decade" call, but the performances in the first 6 games were woeful. Only won 3 out of 24 quarters, and all three of those were junk time last quarters when the games were over. A percentage of 54.3, and I would think no Brownlow votes out of a possible 36. And the first half on sunday was heading down the same path. I think the whole thing says more about Freo than Melbourne, and that's what Barrett was getting at.
  4. Harsh call on Eishold. I reckon it was Campbell who blazed away instead of passing.
  5. It's funny though, against any other club other than the Shockers, Melbourne wouldn't have won the game after that deplorable first half. That includes West Coast, Essendon or anyone at the moment. Fremantle is the only team that can produce a result like that. Having said that, considering the circumstances, it was one of the all time great wins.
  6. Essendon are a big show for the spoon. We are pathetic at the moment. Round 18 could be very interesting.
  7. I thought Cam played pretty well yesterday. 31 touches, 9 of them contested, 14 possies in the last quarter, only 1 clanger and 6 tackles. Just as well he wasn't dropped. If the team keeps this sort of form up, Sylvia might struggle to get back in.
  8. Do you think that Sylvia will be the one to lead Melbourne out of that wilderness?
  9. I wouldn't worry about WCE, Carlton or Richmond. It's my Bombers that will challenge for bottom spot. No depth to go with the biggest injury list in the comp, and a hit and miss game plan means we may struggle to win another game for the year.
  10. Carve up September??? While Johnstone played well in the games you mention, Melbourne did lose both of those games. I tend to agree with Nasher, pick 14 was a great result for the Demons.
  11. Yep, that Kreuzer sure can play.
  12. Plus you can just trade the No. 1 pick in the draft for him.
  13. A bulldogs player. No names or he will never talk to me again.
  14. Yeah, it's not earth shattering news, but I have it on reasonable authority that Nathan Eagleton probably won't play tomorrow and that Tim Callan will take his place in the line up. Eagletons long kicking and run would have been useful on the MCG, so his absense might hurt them.
  15. I'm sure Melbourne would have done better with Sheeds at the helm. I mean, look at the form Sheedy is in right now. He lost Lucas after about 20 mins on Monday, forgot to pick a captain, and still scored 1924 in Supercoach. The man is a genius. Seriously though, Melbourne may well have got closer if Sheedy was coaching [hell, they couldn't of got much worse], but for the long term benefit of the team, Bailey is the right man.
  16. Why don't you buy your membership, but tell the club you don't want your all important membership dollar going to the salary of either Sylvia, McLean or Carroll. Specify that you want your money to go to Neitz, or Jones, or someone like that. I'm sure the club will take that on board and act accordingly. 30,000 paid members watching their every move ??? I thought we were talking about Melbourne players. [just joking folks]
  17. 1. Carlton - Can't stand the way they are eventually going to become a force again. 2. Richmond - Used to be No 1, but just bumped off top spot by Carlscum. 3. Port Adelaide - Will probably change once Mark Williams isn't coaching them. 4. Collingwood - Sort of admire them a bit, but Eddie makes me hate them. 5. Kangaroos - Take your so-called "shinboner spirit" and jam it.
  18. I think we have all sped on the road at times, and while I haven't got into too many bar fights while holidaying in Europe or been known for doing burn outs in my ute, these sorts of things can be expected from a bloke Brocks age. In the end, as good a player as Brock is, and will be, he probably isn't AFL captain material. These days captains need to lead both on and off the field.

  20. I didn't realise that was the case with Morton. He seems like the sort of skilled player that would stand out in an award like this, but if he isn't going to play enough games, I'll save my money for Gumbleton.
  21. Morton looks excellent value to me at $16.00. Melbourne Players : Ricky Petterd (Melbourne) 6.00 Cale Morton (Melbourne) 16.00 Simon Buckley (Melbourne) 26.00 Jack Grimes (Melbourne) 51.00 James Frawley (Melbourne) 51.00 Jace Bode (Melbourne) 51.00 Addam Maric (Melbourne) 67.00 Colin Garland (Melbourne) 67.00 Isaac Weetra (Melbourne) 67.00 Kyle Cheney (Melbourne) 151.00 Tom McNamara (Melbourne) 151.00 Top 12 : Tom Hawkins (Geelong) 4.00 Ricky Petterd (Melbourne) 6.00 Andrejs Everitt (Western Bulldogs) 6.00 Matthew Kreuzer (Carlton) 8.00 Trent Cotchin (Richmond) 8.00 Matthew Leuenberger (Brisbane) 11.00 Scott Gumbleton (Essendon) 14.00 Lachlan Hansen (Kangaroos) 14.00 Cale Morton (Melbourne) 16.00 Rhys Palmer (Fremantle) 16.00 Robert Gray (Port Adelaide) 17.00 Ben Reid (Collingwood) 21.00
  22. Melbourne - 15,385 Richmond - 17,103 Brisbane - 19,037 Kangaroos - 19,376 St Kilda - 20,260 Port - 24,914 Essendon - 28,419 These figures are from the clubs websites. I couldn't find the other clubs figures from the quick look I had.
  23. Yep, you are probably right then. It's been said before, but it just seems to be the new game on draft day, the old "we couldn't believe he was still available at that pick" thing. Not just Melbourne, but just about every club does it. Almost saying that every one else got it wrong and we are the beneficaries. If Craig Cameron is right, and Grimes was the 4th best player in the draft, there will be alot of clubs with egg on their face. Richmond may well have picked up the best recruit this year, and I'm not talking about Cotchin or Rance.
  24. Neither Essendon or Melbourne will win the Wooden Spoon in 2008. When talking about Essendon, everyone here seems to only focus on the age of Lloyd, Lucas, Fletcher etc, yet in the same breath talk up the young talent of McLean, Jones, Newton, Bate etc. I am just as confident in the likes of Stanton, Ryder, Winderlich, Monfries and Gumbleton showing improvement in 2008 and helping out the "old" guys at Essendon. Obviously both clubs have new coaches after long stints by the men they replaced, and so far both are making the right noises. It's exciting times for both teams, with new men at the helm, and plenty of young talent on both lists. But really, in the end, where clubs finish is largely dictated by how many injuries a club gets.
  25. What Rhino means is that if Morton had been taken in one of the first 3 picks, obviously one of either Kreuzer, Cotchin or Masten wouldn't have been, and thus leaving them available to be selected at pick 4. I agree with him that Melbourne would have taken who ever of those three was available at pick 4, not Grimes.
