To be fair, they’ve been hammered with injuries.

In a nutshell, my issue is if in this scenario player A does get the ball and quickly goes to fire off a hand pass, player B goes to tackle and as a result the ball falls out of player A’s hand (meaning they don’t fully execute the hand pass) then it will be holding the ball. This is unfair to me because player A has been the one who has attempted to play the ball and get it moving.

Gawn now lives on the Mornington Peninsula I believe so it would be easier to get to than Gosch’s too.

It’s pretty clear from reading the thread that most people don’t know what the rule is now. The key thing that is being missed is when a player has not had prior opportunity they only need to attempt to dispose of the ball. If the AFL removed this then no player will ever take the risk of getting the ball, they will just sit back and wait to tackle.

So why go get the ball if you are just going to be pinned every time you are tackled? How long are you allowed to be tackled before the umpire pays holding the ball if you can’t dispose of it (if it is pinned to the body)?

I suspect that Hardwick, much like 95% of people who are involved in or watch football doesn’t actually know what the rule is. Why go get the ball when you are better of just tackling the player who does get it?

It’s about making sure his foot is 100% because we don’t have a good history with his feet issues.

It horrible for both teams. The umpires suddenly deciding that every tackle should result in holding the ball was simply awful.

I hope we are seriously looking at Cripps. He’s clearly injured and a star if the game despite what many people are saying now.

We can’t get the balance between getting to Gawn’s feet and staying clear of him. We also have players that just plainly run away from the ball at centre bounces.

I liked the idea of Chandler but I think he makes way for Sparrow. It will be interesting to see if Jackson is available because I did like what Weideman brought to the team.
