  1. An example of what he might bring if he can develop (from a training session before Xmas and illustrating his basketball background)..............a kick which went astray in front of him, it bounced straight up in the air, without blinking he launched himself vertically, grabbed it one handed landed and looked to distribute Has a really good frame, coaches and recruiters I have chatted to, think once his endurance has built up, has the attributes to develop
  2. The point I was trying to make, I was at the first training session after the break when the senior players came back, Jeff Garlett completed the whole session without an issue, you can interpret Roos' words a couple of ways, the usual suspects on here decided to take the negative approach, which you are entitled to do, I actually spoke to Jeff a couple of weeks in when he had an issue with a slight calf strain and spent a couple of session in rehab, because he is built like a stick, and because his base fitness is really good, the boxing is what tops it off, so because he hadn't been able to do it, he was trying to catch up with it I have quite a few posters on ignore because I don't think it achieves anything nit picking, but I will post if I have a differing opinion to what is being stated as fact in a post
  3. How hurtful, must be the spectator with the most footy related injuries ever actually chap played in 3 states all at amateur level taught how to play by an RSM having started to watch the game in 1977 so might be able to proffer an opinion or 3 Dear dear me Jeff had an issue at the start of last pre season as well I have spoken to a few of the players who have told me when unhindered Jeff is one of the best trainers at the club up and running means unhindered but continue to look for the negatives if u must
  4. Based on 3 games, a bit of a different criteria for Sam than that which you have for evaluating other players is the squad?
  5. He didn't cop a whack Roos pointed out that because of a finger issue Garlett was not able to do his usual boxing regimen during the break , and as it is a very important part of his fitness plan came back a little underdone
  6. I'm working with a young student who is doing a psychology degree at uni, pointed her to this site for a bit of practical study
  7. Not going overboard, but having watched him at junior level, seen him training, spoken to both the coaches and recrutiing staff, it is good to see him over his injury issues and having a crack at getting into the AFL side, he has been given a year to show what he can do injury free, he may not show anything, but after talking to him as well, I am pleased that the Footy Dept has seen fit to at least give him the opportunity
  8. This story is more about a young player who has battled injury since being drafted, a player who the footy dept thinks is worth persevering with Now fully fit, let's wait and see
  9. I think you will find that if last year is anything to go by, Jones or Vince will be sent to the opposition gun midfielder rather than the other way around, with Viney getting the job now and gain dependent on the opponent, hence the need for Jones to build his running up to another level
  10. and some still manage to drag their knuckles on the ground
  11. So what you are saying is that if 5 or 6 of our next level players actually improve out of sight during the pre season and the NAB challenge you wouldn't mind if Jones wasn't a lock for the first round?
  12. I thought it was because most of them stay at home now until they are 35 and live off the parents, not surviving on cornflakes, Newcastle brown ale and Woodbines, or was that just me...typed as I adjust my broken spindly frame in my seat
  13. Nathan Jones had a bulging deformed disc in his neck that could be managed, but we hardly had any midfield replacements who were fit banging the door down at Casey. Even though we had a healthy list we now know Roos' opinion of some of the midfield 'talent' we had on our list at the start of last season. Now we have what we have all been crying out for for the last couple of seasons, real depth, true some of it is still unproven, but at least it will keep the 'locks' honest Oliver being one of those unproven
  14. There are differing opinions, not wrong opinions I haven't changed or twisted my words, I still stand by my opinion that finally we have reached a stage with the squad that nobody can be guaranteed a spot and you will have to earn it, hopefully both Nathan Jones and Jesse Hogan will be injury free, fully fit and in top form to be included in the 22 for the first game
  15. This is what I love about this site, I didn't say Hogan and Jones wouldn't be playing, I said the 'best' 22 will be on the park, that is the fittest and most in form, in the opinion of the coaching panel, not the supporters
  16. Serious answer - the 22 for Rd 1 will consist of the fittest and most in form players at that moment, as I stated in another post, the players are on notice, you have to earn your spot and perform consistently to keep it. You will also notice that on the club website report for the final training session at Maroochydore, Nathan Jones was praised for his improved field running, a best and fairest winner who has had to improve this part of his game to make sure he gets a game
  17. Personally I don't think anybody is a lock this year, but if you want to that's your choice
  18. You have it in one, I spoke to him about that, also he is relishing a full pre season
  19. To get back to Jack's progress, had a couple of chats to him this pre season and to the fitness staff about him, it is just baby steps (as it also says on the club website), do something, see how the foot reacts, do some more, see how the foot reacts, upto now everything is on track, he has a one year contract, everybody at the club knows this could be his last shot, especially if the foot misbehaves again, everybody is behind him hoping he can return
  20. Grimes is another one whose career has been plagued with injury, full pre season and who knows, as for locks in the side, speaking to players, Roos and Goodwin have stressed there is no such thing going forward, you earn your spot and perform to keep it, there is competition for every single spot, my smokey watch Hulett if he gets a run in the NAB
  21. He made a joke about his lack of guns himself, when I spoke to him last year
  22. My new job is really good, for a job of course, some of the places I have worked didn't give it much competition......get to training now and again, trying for at least once a fortnight, if not more Choke, watching Hogan train, when he is not having a light day, is frightening, he is a big man now, but his running has not been affected at all, he has put on about another 3 or 4kg, think they want him playing at around 98-100kg, a lot of the players look really strong now compared to past years, there are some serious builds, Kent is another one, he is just solid....and of course the transformation of Hunt, even Matt Jones looks like he has actually toned his sinew
  23. As far as I can gather with Jayden Hunt, through talking to him and fitness staff, back issues are over, but like Hogan keep a close eye on any niggle
  24. The best part of the pre season for me is to see Kent and Hunt participating in all the sessions, it is like having 2 extra new recruits
