  1. BenKen and Bugg both training really well, not standing out for good or bad Keilty a big lump of a bloke, good leap, plenty of upside Smith the Bull, exactly what was reported from Casey Hannan rehabbing from shoulder op, watched his goalkicking, neat and tidy action VDB fully recovered from ankle surgery, another one ticking off sessions
  2. And some of the rest Oliver being pushed and pushed, outstanding yesterday Frost I liken him to a former soccer player called Emlyn Hughes, nickname Crazy Horse, big, strong, athletic, moments of brilliance, moments of sheer ??? Jetta just working his way through pre season, being Nev Jetta Oscar Mc as reported, ticking all the boxes, looking bigger and fitter like the rest Hulett and Weidemann young forwards being taught the craft
  3. A quick report card on my observations so far Hogan, content, elite fitness, standout most training sessions Watts, content, elite fitness, standout most training sessions Jones and Viney - what it says on the tin, Jones was driving the standards yesterday in front of the big crowd, joked with Viney about the fence incident from midweek "just thought I would try and get through it" Lewis, kicking is just a joy to watch, his constant talking on the training track a standout, took Clarry aside yesterday for a quick chat Hibberd, solid unit, left foot weapon Stretch, Hunt, Salem, now have men's bodies to go with the skills Harmes, gone up another level with his skills, has obviously worked his arse off on them, starting to look at ease on both feet Tyson, spoke to him yesterday, feeling fitter and stronger than last year, joked the right foot is getting there Garland, Trengove, both looking like they did from a few years ago, both have completed every session and are already feeling the benefit, adding to the competition for spots Brayshaw little hiccup in the last week or so, but looking primed for a big year, just looks more everything Petracca, loves the fact I call him lean and mean on Instagram, primed for a big year, close to marrying the fitness with the talent
  4. That's a bit of a harsh assessment of Hunt after two fluffed kicks DS, overall through all the sessions I thought his kicking had actually improved Same with Garlett, last year we had games where he had managed to shake off his opponent and get free out the back, we either turned it over or slowed down to such an extent that he was marked again and the ball went sideways, how is he expected to apply defensive pressure in those situations? It appears that he has drifted out of the game when in fact he is working his arse off to create space. Two moments yesterday, one, where he picked up the ball at full flight in the middle of the field, three bounces and a lovely low flat kick to a leading forward, secondly during the tackling drill, he tackled Jack Watts and pinned his arm beautifully, comment from Macca, "take note boys, that is how you tackle", that is the real Jeff Garlett, how a bloke who averages just under 2 goals and 3 tackles a game can also be called lazy (not your comment) is beyond me
  5. Maybe, but being Liverpudlian we major in sarcasm, as for Garland misconceptions he is a typical Taswegian quiet with a dry sense of humour, I just find it staggering he has played with pain for four years, club first principal maybe why he is still here He is running really well and seems to have his leap back again as well, I don't care who is in the 22 each week as long as the coaching panel regards them as the most in form for that game On the running I joked with Tommy Mc that Jesse Hogan is getting closer to him on the runs, I said Jesse might be the next king of the 3k, Tommy said it ain't gonna happen I am going early reckon Dion Johnstone is good bet for smokey of the year
  6. Mate if you feel like going again let me know? If you don't feel like getting the bus from the train station which goes as far as the Aquatic Centre, you can scoot the rest of the way or scoot the whole way on one my spares as long as you can keep up with me ??? Been to the Artic circle, not as cold as Antartica where the wind at Casey in winter comes from
  7. Following on from what WJ has put, I have been going to training since they moved to Goschs, I was dubious three of four years ago when Misso came on board and said they would have to start from scratch and rebuild the whole fitness/medical/rehab area, there wasn't instantaneous results, but over time the whole standard has lifted and those at the club now are benefiting from the new regime/organisation that was put in place Everybody players/coaches/kit guys/trainers/medicos/media/analysts, me knows exactly what is going to occur during a session and each player knows exactly what he is required to do in that session. The coaches all have earpieces (except Macca) and two way radios so they can talk to each other during the session, to watch Macca prowl around the field, coaching the players, coaching the coaches, a little word here, a gesture there is a treat for the watchers A player has to report the slightest twinge/niggle immediately, it is assessed and a call made on whether they stay out on the field We have the new draftees and rookies training with the main group before Xmas and nearly doing the whole session The guys in rehab are given targets weekly to ensure that if and when they get out of the rehab group they can go straight into everything The morale of the players is the best I have seen,
  8. Training with the backs when they have broken up into groups
  9. I have been pleasantly surprised with his skill level, he does the occasional missed handball or kick, but every player does that He has a nice solid build, and asks a lot of questions, eager to learn,
  10. Oscar is one of those that is just doing everything with the minimum of fuss, hasn't stood out for anything good or bad, just playing his role in drills
  11. I saw this one as well WR, the one I mentioned was later, so it obviously continued, with Oliver they know exactly what buttons to push, he got heaps of praise later for a beautiful kick he produced
  12. Hunt spotted Watts alone in the centre of the field and sprinted about 30 metres and then dived towards the ball, luckily Watts saw him coming and swayed his bottom half out of the way, Hunt still knocked him off his feet grabbed the ball and was away Hogan is primed for a big big season, he was also one of the last to leave training, must have posed for about 50 photos, said he is going home at Xmas and added what day he would be back and looking forward to it already, Watts is the same said they are ready to attack the season
  13. And yes they are driving Oliver hard, leadership group and coaches, he is responding really well, joked with him afterwards, Gawny gave him nice forearm across throat, responded with jab to ribs
  14. Well Hunt tried to break Jack Watts' leg at training, "I got the ball didn't I" he is looking better than last year I asked both Goody and Macca they want a team that can kick both sides to keep ball going forward, non preferred practice will be staying Col Garland looks in top shape, asked him how he was travelling, first time in four years he is pain free in ankles, able to complete every session Also Trengove trained really well today said he is now able to do whatever he wants on the field without 'worrying' about his body More later, pics are up on Instagram and treat time later Six was there taking heaps of photos
  15. Goody interviewed Hibberd, Hannan Johnstone and Lewis, nice mix of humour and fact Hibberd has no sea legs Johnstone has a selfie with Jordan Lewis from last year Goody going to employ Hannan to reno his house Lewis was Joe Cool
  16. Gee WJ you forgot to mention the question about the 'horrid' white jumper PJ was quite emphatic that the majoirty white jumper is AFL driven, produced a slide showing a jumper design we have submitted to AFL to wear against St Kilda, front is home jumper back all red, only for Rd 1
  17. Just to let you know, you can add Harmes to the list of competition, he has been training along with Salem as a mid, both been doing a lot of stoppage work
  18. If you let anonymous posters hiding behind keyboards get to you, you shouldn't post on public forums. Thanks I ask the players and coaches questions I post some of the answers, I take pictures and post them, if people like them good, if not their choice I thought I would ask Ben Mathews as he was right there when it occurred to ANB, I posted his answer Hopefully ANB will get a run at it Same with Jeff Garlett, copped a whack to the schnoz nothing serious he was fine when I spoke to him, just wouldn't stop bleeding so they blocked and iced it, able to return Poor old JKH can't take a trick
  19. There was a lady of a certain age today at training, who said she was preparing a calendar, and the only two she could convince to get the rig out were Max and Jack Watts I was warned by Jack to put my camera away, didn't want the pic on Instagram
  20. Yes JKH finger was at a lovely angle Will ask Macca about the non preferred Think some of the posts have it covered
  21. That could be it for Brayshaw, he just looks at ease and the same no matter the foot , on that, Tyson is getting better on the right At the moment the issue when field kicking is they either under or over hit it when on the non preferred, so along the ground or over the receivers head Robbo and some of the admin guys came down to help with ball retrieval when the non preferred goal kicking was on, it was a dangerous place and not just behind the sticks, but on the whole it is slowly getting bettet
  22. He was light duties today, so didn't do any kicking, haven't noticed him previously, so that may be good thing. Perhaps DS can offer an insight
  23. As for Lewis and Hibberd, yes they can kick right footed, but just kick, not the weapon the left is
  24. Sorry, yes of course, was trying to not get him in photos today, so wasn't watching, so old age forgets easily, my excuse
