Offical Play Dunn as a Forward Thread
Jerry Lundergard replied to FC Melbourne's topic in Melbourne Demons
I actually think that Dunn has been banished back to the VFL to learn how to find his own footy, and be a bit more creative with it(mentioned by Germo in a Casey report). He seems to be succeeding in the task so far, and i think will get a recall soon, then it will be up to him to see what he does with it. It still doesn't make sense to me that we have been playing games without a tagger. You go through all the top teams this year and in recent past years, and they all have at least one decent stopper on their team, and here we are, sitting bottom of the ladder and we are playing none. We went up to the Gabba to face the Lions and not only could we not get the ball ourselves, we have nobody to stop any of their midfielders getting plenty. Dunn actually did some good shut down jobs last year, but really struggled to have any impact going the other way(like Welsh on Judd last Friday). Which is why i still feel that the grand plan is to have one in our side, and Dunn, whether Demonlanders want him up forward or not, looks to me a best chance to get the role. -
I would say that Morton has a restricted weights program during the season as to not overload him whilst playing games. The question i pose then is, would it be better for us to fast track his physical development with an all year round weights and muscle gaining program, and restrict his games? Just a thought, because Watts cops a fair bit for being a boy amongst men, but so is Cale. He doesn't go in hard enough at a lot of contests, which i am hoping is just a lack of confidence in his own physicality. Mr.Morton routinely gets on here and has a fair crack at players like Ricky Petterd, and although Petterd is not as naturally gifted and may never be the player Cale will be. Cale could learn a thing or two off Ricky about going in hard at the footy.

Sun article about under 18 draft hopefuls
Jerry Lundergard replied to Don24's topic in Melbourne Demons
and be able to win a clearance.....imagine what that must feel like as a supporter, to actually have players in your team consistently winning effective clearances. -
I have no problem with the initial post, my question would be though, what marquee player would actually want to come and play for the MFC at the moment? They have to agree to be traded.

For God's sake! Just relax everybody

You're Pollyanna. -
If we keep dishing up the garbage we have been over the last month against some of the lesser lights of the comp, i think we are going to hear names like Lyon and Viney get mentioned quite a bit. Personally, i would definitely be having a look at Todd Viney. The only problem is, how will the powers that be judge Bailey this year after he will possibly deliver us the first 2 draft picks in the last draft before expansion takes over?

Our whole midfield has definitely gone off the boil in recent weeks. I suspect Moloey may be feeling the pinch after not playing much footy over the last couple of years, and we all know Brock is struggling, as well as Jones. We need to bring some fresh players into the midfield this week to get a bit of spark back.

My 3 word player analysis V The Hairs
Jerry Lundergard replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
As opposed to stuck in our forward line rarely sighted, as the ball doesn't travel down there very often and he finishes with a stat line of 9 kicks, 3 handballs and maybe a goal. Then he would cop it for not doing enough. -
In: Bate, Dunn, Newton, Valenti Out: Whelan, Watts, Robbo, McLean(if not fit)/Petterd

Very predictable for the team to win the last quarter again after being blown out. It actually looked like we were running harder in that last quarter than any other, but of course the Lions were just running slower. Why does Cale Morton never turn around when he takes a mark? He always stands with his back to our goals looking to dish. Clearly another coaching directive. We are so poor at center bounces and around the ground stoppages? (and we have been for so many years now i could almost cry). Why is it when ever we actually get it tapped down to us we are tackled immediately, yet when the Lions have it tapped to them, it is about 2 or 3 effective disposals with no pressure straight into their forward 50? Why do we suck?????
-
If we win the last quarter, and i hear any players mention that fact in any post match interviews, I WILL F@#KING SPEW UP!!!!!
-
The only time we ever have enough forwards down there are at center bounces, but we never win any effective clearances, so it makes no difference anyway. It seems all Bailey is doing is trying to stop the floggings, and even that is not working.
-
That may have been one of the worst quarters of football i have ever watched the Demons play. My patience is starting to wear very thin!
-
We are in the game, but we are a woeful football team. Frawley and Davey our best so far.
-
Do you think it may be worth mentioning from any media people who have been repeating how bad our last two games have been, that the two teams we lost to have also been flogging other teams? We now run into another in form team in the comp...

Casey Scorpions at Williamstown
Jerry Lundergard replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just finished watching the game. Boy, that was a frustrating last quarter to watch. Lucky i have experience watching those kind of quarters being a Demons follower. Casey really missed their captain Matthews in the last quarter. I don't know much about the history of that kid, but he goes harder than anyone we have on our whole list. I thought Dunn was one of our best as well, and Strauss uses it well. I can't understand why you wouldn't have Strauss kicking it in, it would have saved Casey a couple of goals. Maric needs to get involved a bit more, but also looks good when he has it. -

Not surprised if that's the case. If there is one team you don't want to send your underdeveloped No.1 pick out against, it's those snipers up in Brisbane, just ask Mark Murphy.

I am still not convinced that the Bombers will be a premiership contender once Fletcher, Lloyd and to a lesser extent Lucas are gone in 2 to 3 years time. It is one thing to assume they have able replacements in the likes of Hurley and Neagle, but another thing to go out and perform at a consistently elite level like they have over the years. They straighten the Bombers up, and we had a taste of what they looked like against Geelong without Fletcher and Lucas. And last year without Lloyd and Lucas, they were horrible. As for Carlton, i posted after their Adelaide loss, that their depth is a real worry and nothing i have seen has changed my mind about that.

I agree. Our midfield is ordinary. As far as i am concerned, 2 of the first 3 picks in the draft should mean 2 gun midfielders.

Drew Banfield. That makes a grand total of 2.

Umpires please explain AFL!!!
Jerry Lundergard replied to DangerousDemon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wish we had the umpires that just whistled the Freo v. Geelong game. They let so much go that it was frustrating for me watching it after watching the replay of our first half earlier, because i saw about 20 frees that would have been paid against us the other night, that were not in that game. Also, it looked to me that watts got a handball away when he got tackled by Davey. I wasn't sure if the ump was blindsided, but once again i see all the time when players get tackled, if they get a disposal away before they hit the ground or get spun, it's play on. The life of a bottom side and the disrespect we receive off the umpires, is becoming tiresome. -
Your example here is slightly flawed i that both Waite and Ablett were taken as Father-Sons under the old system of a 3rd round pick. Also S.Johnson and Waite are more forwards and Montagna is really only having his first year as an elite midfielder. I would prefer 2 elite mids with our early picks, but at the end of the day, i think you draft best player available that early and back your recruiter to make the best decision. Defenders are rarely ever rated as top 3 picks, so it will always come down to mids, forwards and rucks, which we all need.
-
Wow, wholesale changes. I am pretty happy with that team though. We have some extra leg speed with Bartram and Bennell, and i am looking forward to seeing Martin get a crack at the FB position.

Cale Morton... ready this week
Jerry Lundergard replied to True Believer's topic in Melbourne Demons
If we win on Friday, i reckon we can kiss our draft picks goodbye, because we can easily win 3 more games for the season after that.
