  1. I think it's unlikely we finish bottom 5, which is a concern in the long term. We lack the top end talent required to catapault us up the ladder and into contention (Langford and Windsor our only real potential A graders under 22), and we don't have enough depth in our "middle class" as we've consistently traded away 2nd and 3rd round picks to get up the draft order. That's an acceptable strategy to take, as long as you're drafting a Clayton Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw or Jackson. Not so smart if you only end up with good average league footballers. I'm not suggesting we tank, but I'm a bit concerned that we're destined for years of St Kilda and Essendon style mediocrity - not good enough to contend, not bad enough to consistently draft top 5 talent.
  2. Ryan Eyers from Werribee is someone we should be watching closely. 199cm key defender who moves very well for his size. Possesses a reasonable intercept game, but I think he could be a really good lockdown key defender at AFL level. He put the clamps on Jamarra in Werribee's win over Gold Coast on the weekend. Was probably pretty stiff to not be picked up in last year's draft after starting the season well (believe he was leading Werribee's BnF at the midway point of the season), but a serious hamstring injury meant his season was over at round 12. Given Jed Adams has shown nothing, and TMac and Lever are both closer to the end of their careers than the start, Eyers could be a handy, ready-to-go pick up.
  3. Daisy is so good.
  4. Blue skies in Ballarat at the minute. Hopefully that holds for the afternoon.
  5. Tldr - your culture is only bad when you're losing.
  6. They're still going to be travelling to Casey. As I understand it, all a move to Waverley would do is bring admin under the same roof, and swap the Gosch's sessions to the adopted facility.
  7. Feel like we're going to be on our own here, but I agree. If Caulfield winds up being too hard, just do what is the norm in every other professional sport around the world and invest heavily in a facility on the outskirts of the city.
  8. Why unfortunately?
  9. With a bit of pace on the ball and space in the forward half, Fritta might kick 60 this year.
  10. Atkins is a dawg. Has carved out a nice career considering where he came from.
  11. All prelim teams were stacked with gun small forwards. It's the biggest hole on our list. Wonder if the football dept/recruiting team knew this, or whether King's assessment of our list has shaped how we've drafted.
  12. Cam Nairn and Jacob Farrow, now both likely to be selected by the Dees tonight, will be interviewed on Gettable at 9.30am and 10am this morning.
  13. Your man Rory Wright at 37 for me SONS. Will be shocked if he isn't a good league footballer
  14. Can't see us doing the Nairn / Marsh double.
  15. Xavier Taylor, hopefully.
  16. Davos replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is he actually a good kick, or is he just left footed? I don't think it's bad, but I don't see it as a weapon either. He's been compared to Hayden Young, but Young has always had an absolute laser. For a powerful kid he seems to have trouble breaking tackles. Admittedly I'm watching the same clips as everyone else though, so there's a good chance I'm missing something. Happy to bet on upside, and I'd trust JT knows what he's doing if Farrow is the pick.

Please sell me on this kid @Pennant St Dee - I personally don't see it.
  18. Sicily, Stewart, Vlastuin, Weddle, Howe. Not a tweener, there's a very defined role for him at AFL level.
  19. afl.com.auSeventh heaven: The 'dream' day SA draft hopeful shot up...A seven-goal outing at the national championships put Cameron Nairn high on clubs' watch lists "He kicked 22 goals from 13 games with the Bulldogs – including a run of 16 goals in five weeks at one point – while he also had his day out for South Australia, but he actually prefers being deployed in a more defensive position on the wing. It's there where he finished the season for Central District, completing his season with performances of 30 disposals and 12 marks against West Adelaide and then 31 disposals and a goal against Glenelg. "To be honest, I actually prefer playing on the wing," Nairn said. "I ended the season playing on the wing, even as a defensive winger sometimes. I played a lot of half-forward and also in the champs I played as a third tall. I played a few different positions, but I like getting up the ground. I just like being closer to the ball and showing my running ability a little bit more as well. I get to use that on the wing." Prototype modern wingman.
  20. On Nairn: "The Demons are never afraid to go against the grain. This is higher than Nairn has been projected, but Melbourne have him in their sights. Nairn had a seven-goal game at the championships before demonstrating his ball-winning wares with consecutive 30-plus-disposal outings to end the season. He is a high IQ footballer, can run all day as a wingman, could develop into an inside midfielder, marks well overhead and is a neat kick. If not: They would love Sam Cumming to still be on the board, and might select small forward Lachy Dovaston, defender Jacob Farrow or try to fortify their key defensive posts for the future with Blake Thredgold." On Dovaston: "Dovaston, who hails from the same Talent League club as Nick Watson, is the best small forward in this draft. He might lack Watson’s tricks, but still has his share, and has greater running capacity and is considered superior defensively to when the star Hawk was the same age. Dovaston kicks goals for fun (and lots of them), is consistent, has become more selfless, runs hard up and down the ground, and tested brilliantly at the combine. If not: Farrow would give the Demons another kicking weapon across half-back, and could become a midfielder in time. Thredgold would also make sense with Steven May nearing the end of his career, while they could pair Latrelle Pickett with his cousin Kysaiah." Of note, he has us passing on Grlj and Farrow. He also has Pickett going at 16 (4 selections after Dovaston), which is the earliest I've seen him mocked. Given I have't heard or read anything suggesting we're interested in Dovaston (every link seems like journalist speculation), it wouldn't shock me if we selected Pickett early.
  21. Weird draft though - I think that is pretty clear now. Regardless, it never pans out that the best players are taken in perfect order, regardless of the crop available. Media consensus means little. Could also be that McGowan has heard we're keen, but maybe we're only keen in the 30s.
  22. Love a JT bolter. Hope we do the Nairn / Pickett double - that would be fun.
  23. It's time.
  24. Are you more likely to win a flag with Connor Idun starting in your team (he's a better prospect than Idun), or with a Brock McLean or some other B- equivalent starting in your midfield (Sharp and Cummings). It also won't be a top 10 pick.
