  1. Freo competitive could hurt WCE's top 2 chances. WCE would have banked both games into their calculations
  2. Have a look at this article... not sure how Gaff played https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/western-bulldogs-forward-jack-redpath-has-suspension-extended-for-playing-in-vfl-practice-match-illegally/news-story/8a97fe9164de8dc7a35792e00526dfab PS this is the answer: Redpath was allowed to play in the JLT Community Series and AFLX, but not in a VFL practice match.
  3. Doubt that anyone would seriously suggest Keilty in place of Weid at present. Keilty was used on several occasions as a swing player and has kicked a few clutch goals. If he can do a serviceable job in the ruck he is probably a better choice at present than Preuss if you want to play another tall. Weid is the future no doubt ... he deserves a run of at least 6 games before any calls are made. His replacement if necessary would be one of the Smiths.
  4. Do Casey have another practice match scheduled for next week? thanks
  5. Thanks Drunk'n I think at present Keilty offers more than Preuss even if it as an off the bench role giving Max and the two key forwards a rest. The problem with that approach is what does playing the extra tall do to your midfield rotations. I definitely think Keilty should have played against Port with their dual big man approach. Not sure it's needed against Geelong but perhaps time to try a new strategy for the medium term. For Preuss to be considered he needs to start impacting around the ground and up forward. As I've mentioned a few times the forecast for next week's game is 16 degrees and windy so might not be a night for the talls.
  6. Thought GWS might struggle a little this year after losing some good players but they are doing okay against the Bombers. 42-17 half way through second quarter
  7. nor are the Suns except (I hope) to Tasmania
  8. Good discussion point Wrecker. Out of interest is the secondary bounce still subject to the 6-6-6 rule. If not it seems tome that a tactic that can be used is that Gawn takes the ball out of the ruck and then handballs to a running player... good result. If he gets tackled there is a secondary bounce for which we run a player or two in off half back
  9. In another thread about players who needed/would be likely to improve this year I mentioned the coaching staff. Yesterday was not their finest hour. Preuss playing today at Casey was a major mistake. If not Preuss it should have been Keilty the moment Ryder was declared fit to play. The lack of scoring ability (almost 60 minutes of football with a couple of points scored) showed no plan B and one can go on. Not despairing yet but if we end up 0-3 the chance of a top 4 spot is almost gone. Top 4 is likely to require 16 wins and top two 17-18 plus percentage.
  10. not bad at all exceeded the GWS crowd for round 23 by 1k
  11. why...Geelong only play one ruck and the predicted max is 16 with strong winds. Preuss would be a liability
  12. Must agree the comments about being underdone due to a shorter pre season are also a little hard to take. The finals provided match practice of the best kind. We just took our break at a different time. Hawks et al seem to mange it with no issues
  13. Disappointing if so. He's made for a16 degree game at Kardinia Park KK could be an inclusion if he gets through the Casey practice game
  14. let's be honest...there's not much at Casey. Lewis and May back raise the question of who goes out. Could Keilty get a game in place of Hoare? Forecast for next Saturday is a maximum of 16....much better for us I hope !! Preuss should have been played today if he was any good. Geelong are light on in the ruck department so Gawn should be sufficient.
  15. sarcasm noted but it highlights a serious issue that bears further discussion during the week
  16. scoreless last quarter... does anymore need to be said
  17. has anyone noticed that other than a three minute burst of three goals we have scored around 2-5 behinds in almost 3 quarters of football. This has been atrocious
  18. getting almost laughable now why does the MFC keep doing this to us Jack Watts has won seven intercept possessions, including a game-high three intercept marks.
  19. From the AFL website: Superior ball use allowed Port Adelaide to continue to dominate on the outside in the third term. The Power recorded 11 more effective kicks and 25 more uncontested possessions.
  20. no consistency.... 3 goals in three minutes and two behinds for the rest of the quarter. Simply no midfield pressure
  21. Come on Dees Tiges were underdone on Thursday but showed what a more skilful team can do. Great goal from the skipper
  22. 30 degrees at the MCG.... fitness will be a big factor in this second half My MFCSS tells me we're not the fitter side. Hope our skills make up the difference
  23. sounds more like the problems of last year where for most of the season we pushed our zone too deep
  24. at least we are scoring.. at this stage I'll take those two behinds as positives
  25. one scoring shot in the last 30 minutes... not good enough to say the least
