The games were played at the old Lakeside Oval and due to the lack of strong lighting both on the ground and in the crowd area the event was notorious. PPS... just noticed this line in Godwinn's press conferene... Jordan Lewis, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Mitch Hannan, Charlie Spargo + Sam Weideman should all be available this weekend. If the three concussed players make it through this will probably be the first week this season that we have had a net addition to available players !!!

Nah I'm picturing one of those computer generated bars. The walls would be blue (IIRC correctly this is better than white) and then we would project computer generated images on to the walls. One night it could be hell on earth or a similarly themed Demon club and the next a jailhouse themed room of black and white. Of course both themes would be replete with interactive wagering facilities that are now de rigeur not to mention socially acceptable by comparison to pokies. Let's be honest there has been nothing good about this season. Every player has gone backwards.... just to different degrees. Sure you can point to a few little glimmers (Hore) but it is probably our most disappointing season for many a year and like most I have seen many of those. Not sure I really buy the off season surgery line but given the injury level it has become irrelevant. With hindsight while the depth last year was not crash hot we probably cleared too much out at once. Mind you I would have done the same. Looking forward to some improvement in the basic form over the next ten odd weeks otherwise the feeling going into 2020 won't be crash hot. I went to watch Hawthorn v Richmond last weekend. The skill levels shown by the Hawks in that first quarter were sublime. Pity they didn't convert. On the other hand we fumble our way forward and then despair when the fast running teams kill us on the rebound.

The state Government have well and truly earmaked that place for a new yuppie suburb deebug. If we had wanted to be part of it we needed to move at least ten years ago if not twenty. Now the Ford site at Broadmeadows might be a possibility... ticks a lot of boxes... but I must admit to knowing little about the long term plans for the site. I agree with what you say from a Richmond/Collingwood perspective but I see it as one way and perhaps the only way of retaining a near city presence. Perhaps needs to be driven by the AFL but I cannot see the justification for ten mega training facilities being built in Melbourne. If the price was that we trained on different days even the less favoured days (perhaps year and year about with favoured days) it is better that the comparatively sub standard facility that will almost certainly come our way if we persist with the idea of a near city base.

Agree ... the outer suburbs almost self select... if we were a richer club we could possibly go ahead with a solo development but that is not the case. I hope we are also doing the sums on a co-development with Collingwood and/or Richmond.

Solid idea but you need to combine it with a social utility program if you want State/Federal funding for the development. Not impossible but it may not be the easiest place to run that argument.

Bradtke hasn't played a game for Casey (except I think against the AIS) so not much chance there. As to the others one could say in racing parlance... "prefer others" but of course there are no others. It would be a season to remember if we played everyone on the list in the Seniors. Bit like participation rewards that they hand out at primary school !

There's something in what you say. Wonder how many members of the Board are MCC members. My guess would be most if not all of them. We all love the MCG and its environs but going forward we need to look elsewhere or get left in the dust. A complex like Essendon have, that Hawthorn are building and Collingwood are planning take years to put in place. Carlton will be next although they will not have an easy task expanding Princes Park. Is there a ten, twenty year plan for the MFC?

not a May fan but the reality is that Brisbane would have traded him last year unless they were sure to get more under compo this year. The trade that was lacking was Hogan for what Freo offered. It will never stack up. Okay who were picks 5 and 6 from last year which were the best we could have got from Freo. doubt it... the think tank will merely will merely be working on when to throw the money for the maximum electoral advantage. Now is the time to push for Casey... to do otherwise risks another xxxx years of nothing. The difficulty is predicting the future. thanks LH.. the six month minimum is interesting. If a team behind us in the draft offers the same potential draftee say a one year deal when we offer a six month deal I wonder if the draftee has a choice of club.

The concern is the drop off in form of so many of the better players from 2018. Need to see players such as Brayshaw, Tom Mac and Oliver regain their magic. Weideman remains a relative unknown and of course Petracca is the enigma. The ups so far are relatively small in comparison to the demonstrated downs. Perhaps the second half of the season will show a little more.

sorry if this has been asked but what is the minimum contract period that you must offer to these draftees. If another position were to become available on the list prior to the draft can you select two players thanks

You make some excellent points Rusty. There's room for imitating the senior team's game plan but there should be time for variation and experimentation I despair as to whether the vfl comp is anything other than a fitness class. It certainly doesn't seem to improve the chances of players making it at AFL level. It may just be a fault in the system but it has been prevalent for several seasons

It's a Richmond home game but I would say the crowd is around sixty forty tigers way so disappointing all round. The MCC section is very sparsely occupied. I'm in the AFL area and have a section of the stand for myself

At the mcg. Nowhere near the crowd I was expecting. Lots of people trying to get in but probably fifty thousand at best

Strange thing at the Casey game yesterday. At one centre bounce Port had only five men in the defensive fifty with the "spare" running off the bench. Okay this was well known news and the fact that Essendon had used it the week before was well publicised. What was strange is that when the Melbourne players noticed it they yelled to the umpire words to the affect.. they can't do that.. "it's a free kick." Of course they were wrong. Amazing that professional footballers who spend the week together had not discussed this tactic. Doubly amazing that the coaching staff had not mentioned the tactic and said when this is done.. we do this etc

Heading to the MCG this afternoon to watch the Richmond V hawthorn game, Beautiful day for football. Hoping for a good game. I will be leaving at half time if it is a repeat of the Essendon v Freo game of last night.

may as well play him along with Baker until the bye at least. The never ending injuries make finals etc an ever more difficult task. Would like to see if we can get the Preuss/ Gawn system working. He's a hard man to mark and Garlett should be able to work off him up forward. Could become our lesser version of Mason Cox.
