I agree with most of this although I think roos comments were he wasn't keen on key forwards and explained why. I don't think his comments were about key backs, as in his view they actually have the hardest task. They have to perform 1v1 with the delivery going to their direct opponent without a zone to impact delivery.

I haven't looked at any of highlight packages. Mostly because that is what they are, highlights. I have watched a lot of u/18s for about 15 odd years when a friend became an assistant coach at one club and another the coach of another. My nephews also played a few years each and a close family friend played for vic metro. I do not think I'm am expert on who will go where but I have a good idea on the players. The ones mentioned in this thread I think I can comment on. I have seen them all play more than a handful of times Lever in my opinion would have been the first pick if he didn't do his knee. He didn't play in the midfield as a 17 year old but a lot of 17 year olds don't really get that chance because the coaching can be based around 18 year olds trying to get drafted. He may well have played there on occasion this year if he had played if not more permanently. Not really different to petracca who also didn't play mid last year. Lever has however done a lot of training with the mids in his rehab. I think I would pick him at 3 but a serious knee injury has me second guessing. McCartin is very competitive and likes to bash and crash. He is strong and I'm not in the corner where people say he is so much bigger than the backs. Stronger yes, size maybe a bit, but guys like Boyd, daniher, Patton, even wright are/were much bigger than their opponents, mostly because of height. He had a lot of niggly injuries this year which prevented him from showing his best. A recruiting friend of mine told me just after the national carnival that the doggies rate him as a 10 year player and would pick him at 1. He has great hands and is quite quick off the mark so he can create distance and hold marks. He is strong like frawley was strong at the same age. I think he will play some games next year, like hogan would have played this year minus injury and Boyd playing some games for gws. It's not like we have some gun forwards keeping him out and Dawes will miss a few (just basing this on what might happen) and hogan won't play 22 games (I don't believe anyway). Brayshaw is a certainty. He is the best pure midfielder available. (Heeney goes ok). He works hard from start to finish and doesn't give up. He grinds his opponents if they try to go with him. He played on petracca late in the season and in my opinion got the better of him. Great tackler as he goes with his whole body instead of just his arms. He also is a goal kicking mid and we need those desparately. I don't believe stkilda will pick him at 1 but he could go 1. Petracca played midfield this year after playing as a forward last year. Watching him play he seems to go to the right places but I've been told he has worked very hard at this. Has good vision and always seems to get his hands free when tackled. Another mid who knows were the goals are. I think he will go at 1 but I'm hoping we get the petracca, Brayshaw double as we need mids. Laverde I have seen probably the most. He has tricks upon tricks and pace to burn. My issue with him at 3 for us is that I haven't seen him play as a pure mid. Wing, halfback, halfforward are the places I've seen him most. The kid can do anything though. This year watching him play he really reminded me of Sicily who was drafted by the hawks last year from the same club. Wright is big and can kick it a long way. I'm not sold on him for us. He doesn't go as hard at it as McCartin. He is an ok mark but that might not be the case at afl level against guys as big as you (Not saying it still wont be the case). He does have the ability to influence the game from the forward line and if its not working for him he can go in the ruck and influence the game around the ground. I'm not anti picking him if we do. My preference is petracca, Brayshaw the same as everyone I guess but I don't believe it will work out that way. Having watched recruiting from up close I believe we will get the best result we can on the information that is known now. I've had dealings with our recruiters in the past and I believe we have the right people as compared to the past.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM FROST
Demanding Success replied to Gipsy Danger's topic in Melbourne Demons
Even though he missed 7 games he still finished 11th in their bnf. We identified him as the best developing key defender in the game. I'm happy with the deal we made in the circumstances. -
The chairman of gc was easily the worst press conference afl has ever seen. I was laughing for ages after listening too it. If you want to hear how to sound like a complete goose have a listen. I can't believe that guy is in charge of anything. I think he may have worked for us about 5 years ago. (He didn't but he might have been in disguise)

On a side note, spoke to a few doggies mates Yesterday. The rumours are true. The senior players are filthy with the coach. Some of them really don't like him. Minson, Boyd, Cooney and a few others. I'm really surprised Boyd signed on again after what I heard. Maybe he thinks no one else would want him. Minson used a few choice words to the coach during his end of season review. I wont repeat them (use your imagination). Cooney was even told to find another club. I wonder what it would take for Cooney. Struggles with his body though but 14 or15 games a year could be handy for a couple of years. I'm sure crossy would know all this and maybe could be supplying a bit of info to roosy. We have treated our experienced players badly and I don't recommend it to other clubs. Not saying we should trade for any of these guys but always keep an open mind. I don't believe their age brackets are really in roosy's normal MO but maybe the experienced players attitude can rub off on the next age group down. Jones seems to be a good example of this.

Lol, I'm still giggling at this post. Fwiw buying a house down the coast doesn't really mean much when it comes to picking a club. I have a house in the city and one in barwon heads. You can have both. If he bought one in WA or Qld that changes things.

This is feasible. They will get brisbanes pick 4 (5 hopefully) if beames goes there. I can't see them still having pick 8/9 though. I think this will have to be used on Moore. Moore is a real talent. Imo he is the best prospect of the talls in the draft. His skills will carry up to afl very well. Not instantly but after a couple of years developing.

It's obvious you were.

This was started by a crazy pies supporter on bigfooty and every other clown pies supporter is re-tweeting it. I can't believe you can get sucked in and put it here like you heard it.

GOODBYE MR. CHIP FRAWLEY
Demanding Success replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sheahan didn't say it. Wallace did. Sheehan tried to explain what could happen. He is on the panel. He said there is a really complex formula which is worked out and then put to the panel to see if it looks fair. Wallace said it and used buddy to say frawley wasn't worth more than him. He was talking from what he thinks is fair instead of looking at the figures. -
GOODBYE MITCH CLARK
Demanding Success replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wow, mass hysteria in one day. This thread has gone massive. I agree with wj. I'll just wait and see. If he goes ill put him in the scully, Healy, Scott Thompson bin for me. If he plays for us, great. I hope we can organise something decent if he does go. I just want pj and pr to get us right as a club so when we loose players in the future it's because we didn't want them or couldn't fit them in the team like the swans, hawks and cats. -
Players to target at the end of the year
Demanding Success replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't try and put words in my mouth. I didn't says roos got all those players. I said Sydney did. I disagree on the rarely change clubs aspect. It happens every season and will happen more and more with free agency. We as a club unfortunately are not a preferred location for anyone at the minute. I for one hate this. We are at the bottom at the wrong time and for a number of reasons. I have said for years that we have been neglecting our midfield by not picking pure midfielders. I'm not talking outside run with the ball players because we picked them every year. Maybe we picked the wrong ones or didn't teach them properly but that is another topic. We have hogan and must teach and look after him properly. If we lose him we will be stuffed in a lot of ways. We can try and trade in guys around him. He can be our gun if we do the right things. This trade period and draft have to be about getting mids who can get the ball and rack up numbers. Our midfield is the worst in the afl. I don't like sledging players but whilst guys like Mckenzie and m jones get games we will be ordinary. I don't want McCartin or wright at the expense of Brayshaw or petracca or ahern. Laverde is a different player again and I'm not sure we have the luxury of picking. Names of players get thrown around at this time of the year all the time. I don't really care who they are and what their past is as long as they can improve us and make us win. I'm sick of losing. We might use our picks to trade in a tall like frost or jaksch but I hope we bring in at least 5 or 6 more mids in the trade/draft period. -
I also don't believe gws want 2nd round picks. Not sure they will use them.
-
No way 2nd round for Waite. He won't get as good a deal as Sylvia. 3rd at best.

Players to target at the end of the year
Demanding Success replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
You can make stats read the way you want them. I could add that a third of those were traded. This is what roos does. Sydney have got in plugger, hall, franklin and Tippett just off the top of my head. He will do this instead of drafting them. -
According to the Carlton boards they are going to get everyone. Most of it sounds just plain stupid. Not sure how they are going to get Mitchell and jaksh with only 1 first round pick. They won't give up any good players. Gws and Sydney won't let these guys walk for nothing. Other clubs will also be all over these guys. Carlton are also one of the clubs that are difficult to deal with which is why they don't trade in very often and when they do the afl has to be involved.

When you read these articles it has to be noted who is writing it and their credentials. Burke was a pretty good player but he coached who. If he was so good at coaching I don't think he would be writing [censored] articles in a paper hardly anyone reads. This is not a shot at you wj by the way. It really annoys me the ex-players slagging off coaches they have never had anything to do with. There are too many like him at the minute. The ex-bomber full forward is another. I have had a bit to do with him in my time and dumbarse comes to mind.
-
I know some people at dees, blues, dogs and bombers. I sometimes hear some things but I try not to post some things on here. Not because I don't want to tell you all but it's not fair on my friends or the clubs. My wife gets to hear me ramble about it though even when she's not interested.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Demanding Success replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sorry to say this but we really are looking at trading pick 2. I am told gws might be the go for 4 and a player. They really want petracca. If this happens, I would look to trading 4 out as well. Some clubs will be trying to get hold of wright. We could do another trade down for 6,7 or 8 and a player. We could look at laverde or ahern around there. I think Brayshaw would be pick 3. -
We interviewed Robinson last year. I wonder what roosy really thinks him. I like his aggression but I have heaps of first hand knowledge of him. He really is not very smart, and I'm being kind in saying that. We really need more aggression. I really liked the way hawthorn turned it around years ago with just aggression. They had guys rubbed out a bit but so what.

The 2014 AFL National Draft
Demanding Success replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I watched Brayshaw play yesterday. I have no problem at all using one of our early picks in him. I thought he was bog. I'm still on the fence between petracca and Brayshaw. I will be happy with either or rapt with both. I have been told that the doggies rate McCartin at one. They say he will be a 10 year player. Not that they will get a look in though. -
Players to target at the end of the year
Demanding Success replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just to add to pears, I wouldn't be looking to do anything with essendon at all. Not only is most of their list in trouble, they are a terrible club to trade with. North and essendon struggle every year do to a single trade. I can't see essendon doing many, if any at all trades this year. -

Herald sun article suggesting shiel will reject offers from other clubs this year to stay at gws next year. Mentions Tomlinson, jaksh and o'rourke still being ooc. -
Players to target at the end of the year
Demanding Success replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm of the opinion that gws might only use 3 picks in the draft. They did something similar last year. Because they have activated an end of first round pick that gives them 3 picks inside the top 22/23 ish depending on picks allocated for free agents. If they were to gain say our first pick for one of the above mentioned players they might not even use their 2nd round pick. We could bargain for a player and their 2nd round pick. It's something roosy has done a lot. I would say their 3rd round pick is definitely up for grabs around 40. In trading for say shiel they would want our first pick because he is still contracted, but we could give that up for sheil and maybe their 2nd and 3rd rounds. Roosy would then use those in my opinion for a player like the Vince trade. This would get us in a couple more semi-experienced mids. Or we might be able to use one on malceski if frawley goes to not dilute our pick for him. I don't think the swans would get a 1st round pick for him as compensation so a 2nd round pick would be about 38, they would take a pick around 22/23. -
I listened to this. It was Andrew maher. He said it will be announced that ling will sign at melbourne within a month. Watson asked him if he knew this as a done deal. Maher said that he had heard some things. That was pretty much the conversation.
