  1. On a side note I believe that Melbourne will follow a similar path to sydney this year. The swans have a habit of trading out their 1st round picks for players from other clubs. I believe Melbourne will do the same. I think one of the first two picks will go to the mini draft for hogan and the other will go for a player like caddy plus a 2nd round pick. It may not be caddy but I think it will be. If he is happy to come to us. I think we will get some picks for the experienced guys leaving around the end of first round or second round and I believe Gys will be traded. We will have a number of picks from 20 to 45. Our first pick will be 13 in my opinion. I think with caddy and the mini draft pick that gws and gc will not nominate viney. It's very naive to think that the clubs have not met already to discuss this. We will use our picks on guys like nick Graham and garner. I would love for Kennedy to make it to 13 but I dont think it will happen.
  2. If you are going to start a topic please give the whole context. He was asked if a team in a position of playing finals wanted him to play what does he think? He said he was retired but never say never. I recorded it and just watched it. After he left hutchy asked wallet if he thought green would get an offer. Wallet said maybe only a couple of clubs and talked about gws and a couple of contenders. Green was asked what he thought was jacks best position, to which he said forward. He said watts needs to put on more strength and size and that watts is an elite kick.
  3. My information is that he is definitely leaving. I don't know anything about where he is going. I personally don't like losing experienced players but our leaders haven't been good since we forced junior out. I think we are on the right track even with the atrocious year we have had. I've been told some other things about others leaving/traded that was a bit of a shock. Maybe not to some though.
  4. I would agree on Whitfield and toumpas. I believe they would be great gets. Grundy also looks great but I'm a little against ruck men super early. Too many of the greats have come from late or rookie draft. On a very positive note gws want and need rucks. I'm not sold on stringer. Pre-injury he was so much bigger than everyone else and using your analogy of viney where do you go when you are bigger than everyone else. He has struggled since coming back and a lot of it is fitness but I also wonder if size also has something to do with it. Some of those kids are getting bigger. I'm not sure where he will go but it wouldn't surprise me if he slid, not to 13 though. I believe wines and viney are on similar ground. Collingwood has heaps of guys that go and get the footy and run away with it. They also kick goals. We can get our hands on it but never really seem to be running away from a contest. Moloney does it but he has had a horrid year. No one else does it at Melbourne. Jones kicks goals but I would love more midfielders that kick goals.
  5. I can't believe you are going off a couple of champ games to make an assessment on some off these players, especially viney. There is no way he is worth pick 13. In my opinion he is top 5. Viney has just missed weeks because of a collision injury. Did you not see him against men vs Geelong and also in last years champs. He was so good, wojo was sick of being embarrassed and cleaned him up, a premiership player. Viney is the midfielder we have been prayer for, for years. He is moving at stoppages which we don't do, he wins contested ball and then runs away with opposition on his tail. He has pace and he delivers by hand and foot. He will assist greatly in our spread because the others will have confidence in him getting the pill. I'm praying he slips through to the 2nd round but I cant see it happening. He and wines are easily the 2 best clearance players of this draft. I think the only team we need to worry about is the team that finishes second last because the team that comes last will pick whitfield. He did not win the larke medal for nothing. (I know Morton won it as well but so did coniglio) I'm also happy to discuss most of these players if anyone has a question. I don't consider myself an expert but I have a nephew playing u18s (it's not viney) and a close family friend playing for vm u/16. I have watched a fair bit and try not to be biased but I loved Todd viney as a player even with his deficiencies and his son is the toughest straight ahead player I have seen. There is no real point in talking about players from next years draft and there is no way I would give up 3 or 4 for Martin unless gws says to us before nomination day that they are going to nominate viney and we can make a deal.
  6. I'm going tomorrow. I know everyone on here has differing opinions but I am of the opinion that jv will be pick 3. Would love it otherwise but I can't see that happening. My opinion is that it will be toumpas or wines at 4 if it is not traded.t Toumpas is captain and wears no.2 for sa. Smooth mover and is a real reason why sa is so good this year. They lost to vm but toumpas didn't play. Sa dominated wa last week and have some real talent. He is also a terrific kick and has a very high work rate. Wines is as tough as they come, very much like viney. Works very hard and hits very hard. Maybe has a bit to do with being a mate of vineys and Todd as a junior coach. He will be right in the thick of it against sa tomorrow. If we still have pick 13 (I think doggy's activated a priority as well) and don't trade it I would love one of Kennedy, Mayes, vlastuin or menzel. I don't believe menzel is playing tomorrow. Kennedy is little short but he is inside, runs and kicks goals. He reminds me of Blair at the pies. Mayes has played in the midfield this year but was a forward last year. Also kicks goals. Both sa boys. Vlastuin is vm captain and has been playing on a back flank this year. He has been difficult to assess because of the possession he has been playing. There are some guns not eligible for the draft. Boyd looks awesome and the 2 wa boys who were quiet last week amongst others.
  7. I just finished watching yesterday's games and I know that being at a game is better than watching it on fox. SA to me appeared to be a very strong side but seemed to come down a peg when toumpas came off to rest most, if not all of the last 1/4. Maybe with Jimmy Toumpas not playing against metro, this may be the reason for their loss in that game. He has leader stamped all over him and you can never have too many leaders. He was everywhere in the first half and his composure is first class in tight. Never seemed to panic and delivered by foot on nearly every occasion. Except his first possession which went out on the full. He has some sort of hip injury and would have been rested for next weeks game. They said during the coverage that he is having an op after the champs. Even though he is carrying a small injury he was still a smooth mover. He reminds me a lot of Trengove at the same age. He is definitely one to look for at next weeks game and if we don't trade pick 4, he is a great chance to be a dee. I loved Wines game as well. Good friends with Viney and together they would be hard to stop. They would be knocking people over everywhere. My preference early at the draft is mids, mids and more mids.
  8. Anyone would think some of you guys were awesome footballers the way you critique some players. Conditions were not great. I've played at that ground a few times and it can be very windy, not like playing at the G or most of the other pristine AFL grounds. I agree most of the game, especially the first 1/4, was not pretty but the effort was good. I loved tynan's game. Yes he made some mistakes but he has a real crack and I'm sure neeld would love that. He at least is playing some games in his first year, which is a real luxury for us compared to our recent past. I thought Strauss was terrific in his first real game for a while. His kicking in those conditions was awesome and he tackled and competed well when he had too. I'm sure he would have had close to 20 possessions, which would have been at a high efficiency. Martin was everywhere, but I agree you never knew what was going to happen when he got it. Sometimes I'm not sure he knows. Gysberts got better and better as the game went on. He has missed a lot of footy in the last couple of years and his lack of fitness showed late in the game. I hope he gets to play the rest of the year and build some confidence. Hopefully at AFL level as well because in my opinion our midfield is our biggest weakness. I didn't mind cook's game today. Was it great, no, but he worked hard all over the ground, even helping out with possessions across half back. The kicking into the forward line was not great and didn't really help his cause but as I said earlier conditions weren't great. He did alot of really good things to build on his previous 2 games. I have enjoyed watching Casey play this year and I think the coach has a lot to do with it. Players that come back are normally put in a place that helps improve them and increase their confidence. There will be quite a few changes at the end of the season I believe but I think it's heading in the right direction. I do hate losing and have found the last 6 seasons the hardest in the last 30 odd years. Remember casey won another close game and i know its not melbourne but Please try not to be so completely negative.
  9. I loved his aggression. Wish he could have cleaned up a few more. He got Maxwell near the boundary and Maxwell didn't really want to come back either. We need heaps more aggro exactly like it. And Blair was lucky he was on the field because tappy was about to throw him over the fence and thought better of it. I want to see us start punishing the opposition every way we can.
  10. I hope Cameron Schwab has contacted the AFL by phone today to complain about the fixture. We have only played Essendon once a year for the last 3 years. The AFL have cost us 4 points a year!!!!!!
