  1. Laugh you might but media talk is GWS would let Bonar go for around pick #30 and want 2nd round pick for Patton. Original draft pick status is fairly meaningless. eg HWSNBN was pick 1 and traded last year for 4th round pick. Papley drafted as a rookie just a few years ago now looks to be traded for #9+/- If Hawks do give up 11 they will want more value than those two players.
  2. Who do GWS get 42 from? Hawks hold it. Doubt they will give it up to GWS as well as 11. The core trade would be around 3, 6, 11, Patton, Bonar plus whatever is needed for Hawks to give up 11. As I noted earlier, I think it is up to us to sweeten the deal to GWS to pass on to Hawks to get 11. It might be #26 this year but a future 2nd or 3rd would be better (for us).
  3. Co-captain (Wines) management reportedly asked Carlton to trade for him Ollie Wants Out? Acting captain (Dougal Howard) shocked to be told to look for options having two years left on his contract. Fantasia was reportedly there and at the last minute stays with Essendon. It sounds like Robbie Gray is gettable next year. Crows are getting the limelight so Port are going under the radar. All doesn't look right at Port. Other than last year's draftees I doubt there are many players worth targetting.
  4. Agreed it could us. Hence the suggestion of including one of our future picks with 3. It may dilute the value of picks 6 and 11 a little but it helps GWS get the deal done.
  5. Not sure Hawks will give up 11 for just the two they are known to want: Patton and Bonar. They will want something/someone back. Unless they are going to compensate GWS for the steal involving HWSNBN last year.
  6. So they get 11 from Hawks for Patton, Bonar and something/someone else? Edit: Maybe we give a future 2nd/3rd round to GWS which they pass to Hawks...
  7. I don't have the answer Rusty. However, Melksham, Tom Mc, Petracca, Fritsch and occasionally Wiedeman have shown they are very good forwards. But they have played no more than a handful of games together. And our forward line is like Brown's cows. I harp on the lack of a forward coach a lot. I truly believe part of our fwd problem is that we do not have a coach who has ever played as a fwd nor coached fwds. Get us a forward coach who can develop those players into a strong unit and we will do just fine. Having said that I'm keen to see if the musings in the Key Forward Recruit thread eventuate.
  8. iirc JJ's public complaints about the coach were not about the camp or culture. They were more self-serving; complaining about being dropped. Not good for team work or trust building and mateship.
  9. Now that Ben King has re-signed with GCS, effectively saying to Saints: save your chips I'm not joining you next year, it is one Big Fish they won't see at Moorabbin in a hurry. The irony is sweet. Saints get 'clever' and walk out on negotiations with Freo and split pick 6. Ben King then shuts down the hype coming from saints' officials. Saints clearly weren't talking with him as much as they thought. Maybe talking to his parents but not to him or his manager. The saints may have badly misjudged both the Hill and the King situation. With Geelong now in the Hill frame saints may walk away with neither prospect. Snookered themselves. Their credibility isn't worth much atm. Whatever happens they aren't smelling like roses any longer.
  10. iirc when he was dropped rather than take it on the chin, he went public with his dissatisfaction and 'heated' discussion with the coach. Hard to trust someone after that.
  11. Good on Ben for showing he is up for some hard grind. Shows character. Next year the spotlight would be on his every move. This gives him the time to develop away from the Melbourne AFL fish bowl. Wish him well.
  12. I didn't suggest he would. Simply clarifying what I think Mach5 meant.
  13. I think he meant the Tom variety at Sydney.
  14. iirc Ess also ended up in arbitration for Ryder to Port. They are habitual offenders.
  15. Montagna may have played the game but is a Ralph like media lightweight! I put little store on what either of them say. Anyway, blind freddy can see we will be bounce back.
  16. It could work the other way. North traded down the order in 2018. They traded out pick 11 for Polec and Pollard and some later picks. Then used later picks for their top 10 rated NGA player. This will help clubs such as us who do not have a F/S or Academy player. Wouldn't be surprised if we accumulate a few more late 2nd/3rd round 2020 picks before the Draft is over.
  17. Quite a lot of bloody mindedness/posturing this year. Freo (Hill), Crows (Keath), Ess (Daniher), Saints (Bruce and Stevens), asking overs and the buying team walks away or stands their ground. Interesting 3 days ahead. The deals will probably get done but some of the downstream deals may not get through before the deadline. Thankfully, pick trades can continue till the end of the Draft so deals being held up shouldn't hurt us with splitting pick 3, if no player is involved. At least we get our deals done early.
  18. And, Ess will be bloody minded, match or pretend to match Sydney's bid ala the Crows with Danger and force a trade. Sydney are honest brokers but not fools. Dodoro will end up with egg on his face if this ends up at the AFL for arbitration as his deals are prone to do.
  19. Its poorly expressed camouflage by Ralph. He is really justifying why a recent premier should get a match winning forward, Lynch for nothing. And of course Ralph and his family are long standing and staunch Richmond supporters. If Lynch had gone to Collingwood (a recent GFinalist) and they won the 2019 premiership he would be singing a very different tune. Sadly, his 'basket-case' words reflects what a lot of the industry thinks. tbh, I'm not sure his comments will be ammunition. There have been so many such opportunities. 'Bruise -free' footballers which is a bit ancient but with the current personnel we have the last game of 2016, 2018, our obvious fall from grace by mid 2019 as examples where 'it burnt and cut' deep and we didn't respond. The players need to want and work hard for success. It needs to come from within.
  20. This thread tracks contracts, arrivals and departures for listed and rookie players: It is pinned at the top of the Main Forum.
  21. The first week of trade window is effectively over. There have been 6 player movements: FA: Ellis, Tomlinson, Ellis-Yeoman, Birchall, Trades: Frost, Langdon. Our club enhances its reputation to gets deals done! As an aside, only 2 trades for a week shows they should shorten the trade period.
  22. Updated for Frost, Langdon and Tomlinson trades. I haven't put Langdon in anywhere specific as do not have length of contract. If anyone has it please let me know.
  23. 5 spots available: 4 Out: Garlett, Maynard, Lewis, Frost plus 1 unused list spot from 2019. 2 spots taken: Tomlinson, Langdon. 3 spots available for draftees or more recruits. Stretch and JKH OOC and still unsigned so potential for more list spots. Will shortly update the Contracts thread pinned to front page of this forum. If anyone has the length of Langdon's contract please let me know.
  24. Window dressing. Frost has gone for a poor third round pick and weakened our 2019 draft hand and not improved our 2020 draft hand. I'm not in the camp that every trade needs to be a 'win' but I do think that each trade should generate some value. Can't see the value for us in the Frost trade.
  25. A 3rd rounder will still be pick 55-65. Also, I would think our pick 42, a reasonable trading chip and would have some value in pick splitting or beefing up another trade. Giving up 61 in this trade also leaves us a big gap at the draft table. As I say not unhappy with Frost going but would have liked some value in this years draft. As it stands we have 3, 22 and then 50, 79 etc
