  1. Its a bit early to open that thread as they are still discussing yesterday's game. This is a taste of what is to come: I didn't see the game yesterday so have no idea. Except to say God help us against the Dees. It's a toss up whether I'll watch the grass grow or the paint dry. Melbourne will be a formidable opponent to combat. It could get ugly for Richmond. Three weeks in a row the ops fans are scared. With good reason. It is a joy to witness. I'll wait until Tuesday as by then there should be enough on their forums to open that thread.
  2. I doubt there were even 1,000 Giant fans there last night. So about 20,000 dees fans is a pretty good effort given the issues discussed herein. With another Vic team it would have been about 40,000. It is hard to measure our crowds when we mainly play i/state or small Vic clubs at Home at the G especially if those teams are not performing well. But we play Home games vs Pies and Carlton at the G later this year. By then I suspect a lot of the covid issues will dissipate. People will be more used to ticketing, barcodes etc. Lets wait and see what those crowds are like. Sadly, unless our membership becomes as big as the other MCG tenants (pies, hawks, tigers) we will carry the brunt of hosting i/state and small Vic teams that push the AFL for MCG experience.
  3. I agree. Petty has their abilities covered and his reading of the flight of the ball and reaction time are elite. I recall when Taylor drafted him he said something like: ...we don't really need another defender but he is so good we just couldn't go past him... and we took him at pick #37. Taylor proven right yet again.
  4. There were some moments where most of the team ran to a player to congratulate their effort: Kozzie's first goal May after the quick-in-succession hitouts Sparrow tap backwards to Fritsch to goal Its great to see them celebrate the rarer moments that help gel this team. On a different note, Petty's reading of the flight of the ball and speed to react is awesome. Saved a couple of certain goals last night.
  5. Would like to correct this: there is a H&A option for Redlegs which I will consider next year. Still wouldn't mind all members have the right to buy tickets before the general public, naturally after those that have the 'Away' memberships.
  6. Scoreboard level pegging nearing Qtr time. 3.1.19 apiece. Go Suns!!
  7. Whitfield is their danger man. Beautiful kick. Very attacking forays from their d50. But it sounds like he is carrying an injury so he may not be as effective as usual.
  8. Thanks for response. It is difficult to get any clear info for our Away games. For the Richmond game the club told me that I could access Ticketek's priority 'club members' booking if I had a Home and Away membership but there is no such membership available to Redlegs members; it is Home games only. So I had to wait til GA opened. Do you have more info that will help with future 'Away' games in Victoria? Edit: Just saw your last post. Yep, was also hoping to get level 2A. Will be filthy if they release those during this week.
  9. Is this visible on Ticketek sales to General Public section of website? Or is it somewhere else? It looks like a barcode is needed to see the 'Reserved' seating. When I was looking for seats for Richmond game it had blocked out as N/A most of the ground except some Q sections in the SWS yet was automatically allocating tickets by Bay in the Ponsford stand. Almost zero ability to choose where to sit...but I may be missing something. I was allocated tickets on Level 1, Ponsford but it was really annoying to see later that they were allocating tickets to better located Bays which had previously locked.
  10. Brunton Avenue, near gate 7 on the entry to the car park. Small door, few windows.
  11. od, this has been a common problem with an easy fix but the fix can only be done by the club. They reset your password, send you an email etc. The club has a booth between gates 3 and 4 to help with accessing the mfc app so if you wish you can still go to the game. Maybe have a copy of your membership renewal/invoice/number.
  12. Great article on Ed, the (underrated and misunderstood) role of a wingman and the role others play eg Spargo in our defensive strategy: on-a-wing-and-a-prayer It shows how differently fans and coaches view player roles, in this case the wingmen and support roles. "...with Ed Langdon – who has played nearly 100 per cent game time this season, all on a wing – seen as being the prime example of a modern wingman". "Melbourne's half-forwards, though, also play a crucial role in assisting Langdon. A player like Charlie Spargo enables him to transition defensively by using his own tank to get high up the field and hold the width on one side of the ground". "Rival clubs believe this is why the Demons have rapidly become one of the game's best defensive teams, due to their effort and cohesion both individually and collectively..."
  13. It appears that the Eagles Home games in round 7 and 9 are the only games that do not have 'buy tickets' alongside them on AFL Website. (Future rounds ticket purchases not yet shown for any team). https://www.afl.com.au/fixture?Competition=1&CompSeason=43&MatchTimezone=MY_TIME&Regions=2&ShowBettingOdds=1&GameWeeks=7&Teams=1&Venues=13 https://www.afl.com.au/fixture?Competition=1&CompSeason=43&MatchTimezone=MY_TIME&Regions=2&ShowBettingOdds=1&GameWeeks=9&Teams=1&Venues=13 Ticketmaster is the agent for sale of tickets at Optus Oval. I checked their website but the Eagles games for round 7 and 9 do not appear. Its a bit weird but there may be some other arrangement in place for Eagles Home games. Perhaps best to call the club.
  14. Let's not speak too soon, they beat us last year...
  15. My point was we didn't need to bid him at #2 to force Sydney to pay a high price, as under the draft rules at the time Sydney only had to use pick #18 regardless of when he was bid on in the first round. The rules were changed after that for a draft points system so bidding on Mills forced Sydney to have sufficient points to pay top price. I don't think Roos was messing around when he bid #2 on Heeney. As I said above they are different players but both are stars.
  16. Would be very close. Paul Roos bid Heeney at pick 2 before Petracca. We would have Petracca as we had pick 3 but not had Brayshaw. Given that the draft points system didn't exist back then we didn't have to bid Heeney at pick 2 to force Sydney's hand to use a 'high' pick. Their highest pick was #18 and that is what they used to match our bid #2. Any first round bid would have got them Heeney for pick 18. So I would say Roos rated Heeney very highly at least equal to Petracca. They are different types of players, both are stars.
  17. Our team is close to best 22. Salem and Brown to come in. Whoever goes out for them (JJ/Hunt 😿 , TMc/Weideman) would join Tomlinson, Smith and Hibberd as first backup for injuries.
  18. Um, not sure if you quoted the right post... I didn't say anyone should be dropped/rested. My post was the opposite, noting the benefits of resting mids forward and rotating fwds and mids etc to preserve them physically. In an earlier post I mentioned if Petracca's knee needs rest then rest him. But certainly not for the sake of just giving him a rest. I've been a big supporter of the 'build physical resilience' philosophy. It paid off handsomely in last year's finals.
  19. Petracca being quiet and playing fwd more in the last two games looked to be primarily about protecting his knee. But there were other benefits. If I read the tea leaves correctly there is a bit of early season experimenting with roles and tactics: 1) for the Ess game Goodwin said they had some strategies for Petracca's role if he was tagged and how he could best help the team. We got our answer: Neutralised McGrath. Oliver and Brayshaw ran amok. vs Port tagging Petracca and keeping him forward diminished Drew's impact despite his good stats at a time when Port could have done with him in the midfield. In that game JJ and Viney took over as prime movers from the relatively quiet Petracca and Oliver. 2) Resting the mids fwd instead of using interchanges and playing fwds eg ANB, and other players eg JJ for longer in the midfield. 3) Reducing Petracca and Oliver's midfield time reduces the crash and bash toll on their bodies. iirc this was raised as a concern of the club, by a poster who usually has good intel (sorry forgot which poster) once Jones and vandenberg left so we recruited Dunstan. If my reading is correct how good is it to experiment while still winning games. Pacing ourselves nicely in terms of ladder position, building momentum and tweaking the game plan tactics. So some silver linings in Petracca not being fully fit/being tagged.
  20. The best bit is Goodwin saying he is close to signing a contract extension...had to put on my xray vision glasses to look throught the purple thingy...
  21. Last week we won with Oliver and Petracca both being role players with Petracca spending a lot of the game forward. The week before Oliver ran amok when Petracca stayed forward taking one of Ess midfielders who tagged, with him and out of the action. We need Petracca cherry ripe for the next game vs Richmond so if his knee needs protecting then rest him. But Petracca on the field even if he plays predominately forward, stops the op from going all out on Oliver. Whether or not he plays this week we should still win. Dees by 20 points.
  22. I suspect a lot it is to do with stadium contracts. I just felt disappointed for everyone, especially Alice an NT folk that we aren't playing a game there during the Indigenous round. It could so easily have been achieved by swapping two games.
  23. The Saints are giving the Tribunal a lesson in Precendence. Firstly, the English incident above. Three more examples: The first: Sam Reid's bump on Nat Fyfe (2021), which resulted in a two-week ban to Reid. Saints say force much greater, direct impact to the head and well off the ball. The second: Jordan De Goey's bump on Clayton Oliver (2021), which resulted in a one-match ban. Saints say player off a long run up hits head with shoulder, no attempt to stop and that is assessed as 'medium' impact. It's the very opposite, Saints say, to Ryder. The third: Levi Casboult's bump on Alex Pearce (2021), which .was judged 'low' impact. Says the incident bodes "quite favourably" for Ryder given Ryder's conduct compared to Casboult's. MRO: Take note!
  24. Suprise, Surprise, Surprise! Not! St Kilda are using the English bump on Blakey example (see my posts on previous page) in their defence of Ryder. AFL is saying that evidence shouldn't be permitted...and isn't a comparable incidents and that he wasn't charged. Maybe they worry using it as evidence will show up their inconsistencies. I can't see how a reasonable person doesn't let Ryder play when comparing the two incidents. The AFL have backed themselves into a corner by again going easy on an incident early in the season then try and wriggle their way out of the next and later incidents I agree with @titan_uranus's post above that if you elect to bump, any head high contact is a suspension of at least a week then more based on severity of impact/damage. Edit: Tribunal Chairman has allowed the English incident as evidence.
