  1. What I find amusing is that Parish and Merrett are on 25 having played only 3 games together this year. On that basis they would be approx 50 one-two's. They simply play circuit work racking up possessions. Neither of them hurt. On Parish, he is taking a beating lately. Criticised heavily on Fox a few weeks ago for no defence and running one way. Passed over entirely in the medal votes on ANZAC day by Jobe Watson. (He came second in the medal) Then Leigh Matthews said: if you don't look at the stats you would not have even noticed him in the game. Ouch!
  2. Fair points. I'm probably labouring the point a little but no reason Bulldogs couldn't play Sat or Sun to avoid a 5-day break. Regularly attending dees fans will go regardless of time slot. I feel our best chance to raise gate revenues is more Friday night games especially against good teams even better if it was a good 'big' Vic club. Maybe in rnd 16-23 we will get some Friday nights. Perhaps our home games vs Coll and then Carlton. Good for revenue especially if both still playing well. Lots of their fans and 'neutrals' to attend.
  3. Thought I would check in now that the covid affected players are known. Still no optimism but some refreshing humour: If there is a fast spreading variation we should also be worried hugging them in tackles. Our laughter could turn really sour by next weeks when our team drops one by one next week. We should try and exploit Joel Smith he was slow when I last saw him play for Balwyn 7 or 8 years ago and must be 45 by now. ’m sorry but one tall backman (Frosty) v Brown, Weidemann and Tom McD? 3 average players but Hawks have a tendency to make players like these look like superstars. Never mind Gawn rushing fwd at every opportunity. Lost me with this one, Sammy. Think Fritsch is the big threat on the lead once we cover the taller forwards . With a short backline, we would want to be playing a full field press Sicily and Frost played deep on Hawkins & Cameron. This will likely be the most royal shellacking of all time but I’m keen to see Bramble back and the super good hands of Callow. Hopefully Impey moves to where the ball is, not where it isn't. My favourite: Dees such a strong outfit, 5 premiership players missing and the side just oozes quality.
  4. Didn't Voss use the medical sub recently then say he expected the 'injured' player to play the following week? Scott is building a habit of bringing on a fresh medisub in the last quarter, it helps his aging team. Calculated. Another of AFL 'initiatives' that is slowly watered down by coaches not playing to the spirit of the rules. As it is the team who doesn't have an 'injured' player is disadvantaged by the 'fresher' team. Easy fix: the player replaced by the medsub cannot play the following game, regardless of the injury type.
  5. Snap'! I had just added him to my post. Both Gunston and Breust have averaged 2 goals per game so far and barely any points. Give them half a chance and they will hurt us on the scoreboard. I doubt they will be kicking it high and prefer the fast break style of attack to make the most of those two forwards.
  6. The 'dangerman' will be Gunston. Didn't play last year. He is a smart player in fine form. They will look for him when on a break. Shiels plays well against us. Breust is also scoring well. I'm guessing they will look to move the ball very quickly denying us the ability to roll back and set up our defence. Hoping that if we have a good lead in the last quarter that we keep going and not shut the game down. Win by 3-5 goals.
  7. The question mark was around lack of Friday night games not about Dees fans attending. The benefit of Friday night games is that a lot of 'neutrals' will go after work, especially to see a game with top of the ladder teams thus very good for gate takings. Our Sydney and Brisbane games should be a Friday night, especially the Brisbane game which would be an easy swap with the dogs/hawks Friday night game.
  8. One out in each line so each part of the ground should continue to function as normal. No surprises for each other which is good re our system and positioning. Smith and Dunstan stay in and Toby gets a run, at last! Dees by 25 points.
  9. And where do you think she gets her info from... ...the screen shot was straight off the BOM site.
  10. Son of Shane (Woewodin) It also took me a while to figure it out.ā˜ŗļø
  11. Andy Maher just said we have about 60,000 members. If so, the 666 special membership today has been a wild success!
  12. Perfect football weather: Wind and rain in the morning. Sunny afternoon. Light winds in the evening. MCG surface will be dry as a bone by the time the game starts. Source: Bureau of Meteorology
  13. Not worried about our outs as they are not in the same 'line' on the field. We can cover our 2nd ruck, rotating mid and small forward without upsetting the synergy of the team. If we get more cases the risk is if they are concentrated in one part of the ground it starts to upset our synergy, ball movement and defensive patterns. Even then if everyone brings effort and attitude we will get the job done.
  14. I just don't get the AFL love for the Bulldogs. They have already had 3 Friday nights and umpteen Wed, Thurs and Saturday nights. Now they get another two Friday nights and a stand alone Saturday night. Also, scheduling us to play Brisb on a Thurs night means we don't get a full bye with just a 9 day break after the QB game, whereas other teams, like the Bulldogs get a 16 day break for their bye. Yes, I am picking on the Bulldogs but they are neither a big club nor a successful club in 2022 and that is not likely to change in a hurry. The Friday night games in this group are: Western Bulldogs v Geelong Essendon v Carlton St Kilda v Essendon Hardly 'Games Of The Round'. AFL pandering to the Bombers again! Rant over! We will be successful regardless of the fixture but crikey they haven't done the club or the fans any favours.
  15. All that says is Sanderson doesn't have much of an idea of our strengths. Tag May: Petty and Lever and resting ruckman will do the intercepting. Tag Petracca: last time someone did that Oliver and Sparrow had outstanding games. Even numbers at stoppages: Great, suits us fine. Let Viney and co go to town. High pressure forwards: Hunt, Bowey, Salem et al will let them know what pressure is. One mid rolls back: we will just play through the other side of the ground. Embrace 'chaos. football: We have overwhelmed that every time it has been tried. Not deep thinkers these so called 'strategists'.
  16. McGuane sounds like 'captain obvious'. As if opps don't know those tactics. Impossible to employ all of them in the one game. All those tactics have been tried at some stage, none have succeeded for 4 quarters.
  17. I think he did. He said they had been conservative but allowed post game contact but would (and will) pull it back if there was a need to. I think we will no longer see players hi-5 etc fans over the boundary fence. So @WalkingCivilWarwas lucky to slap hands with Max after the GWS game but this is now unlikely with her 'dreamboat', man, Steven May. šŸ™ƒ
  18. Altho the question was about additional precautions this week, I took Pert's response in the context of what precautions the club has had in place since pre-season. Pert said we have had very strict rules this year and people stay home if they have symptoms. The strict rules in place are over and above those of AFL and governments. ...too optimistic a take on my part?
  19. huge-mcg-clashes-to-headline-next-block-of-the-afl-fixture/ "The Round 12 fight for prime time will be hotly contested between the Hawthorn-Collingwood, Melbourne-Sydney and Western Bulldogs-Geelong matches. The Richmond-Carlton and GWS-Western Bulldogs matches in Round 14 and the Melbourne-Brisbane and Geelong-Richmond meetings in Round 15 are also expected to feature prominently". I would have thought Melb-Syd was a no brainer for round 12. Ditto Melb-Brisb in round 15. Most of the other games are between mid table teams. In round 13 we play Coll on QB and have a bye in round 14.
  20. Today is 'Membership Day' on SEN. Club has a special promotion: 6 Home games GA membership for $66.00. Has priority access ticket rights to first 3 rounds of finals ie not the GF. I just bought 2 for friends/family who might want to come along. They are GA memberships so can't sit in my level 2 Reserved Redlegs area but seats can be reserved for them at $30 each for level 2A to sit together. Pretty good deal! Detail here: membership/666-6-games Edit: I bought them on my account but they can also be bought in for a new member account if that is preferred. I found it a lot easier to just buy them and allocate them as each game comes up to whoever is free to go to the game. Just rang the club and done in a few minutes.
  21. Lets hope the immunity from having covid lasts till end of September so we can have a clear run at finals.
  22. Saw footage of how Darcy plays. He also took his eyes off the ball and waited till Pittonet leapt before jumping in with his knee. Pittonet out with a PCL. Like Draper's action it looked deliberate. As soon as a ruckman takes his eyes off the ball at a CB the umpire should call a free. Or do it often enough cited by MRO for rough conduct, fined and if need be suspended. We don't need the better/best ruckman to be taken out.
  23. Updated forecast: Just right for game time!
  24. An update but not much optimism post our covid news: Just need another 10 to go down and we are a chance I still expect us to lose because they're clearly the top team and we're clearly inconsistent and around the middle. But we've shown we can play some very good football. We'd really be wanting to test ourselves here where as the stakes aren't nearly as high for them. If we're lucky we might catch them napping. Jackson, Pickett and Petracca would be massive losses. Big Maxy and Clarry should probably pop around and give them a cuddle and make sure they're ok. May can't drop past with the beers as well The worst thing for Melbourne would be for covid to run through the squad in finals. They really should all get around to Jackson's place for a session. Get it out of the way now Hopefully another 7-8 cases for them over the next couple of days. So a 12 goal margin has gone down to 11 They seem fixated about playing us on a 5 day break, conveniently forgetting we have only a 5.75 day break from a night game meaning post match recovery etc goes into the early hours of the next day.
