It’s funny you say that Layz. As a more optimistic supporter I feel like a lot of fans on here love a loss - so they can have a real crack at the club. We all bring our own biases I guess. In the end we all just want success.

Let's try and pin point the actual issue.
I mean, maybe watch the game and then have a rant. Context is everything.

If Demonland was a band ‘Hysterical Neurotica’ would be the title of our greatest hits album.

Yep, and it doesn’t need to be all doom and gloom. It’s super disappointing, but it’s also a fairly pragmatic approach to take when looking at where we currently are. Our bottom 10 players aren’t getting better collectively, there’s just been a few highlights from young guys like McVee and JVR. On the whole we haven’t gotten better, and we’re lacking confidence across the team. Nobody would just finish the job today, they all wanted to give it off. I think we are a finals side, but I think on current form not much more. It’s a shame, but it’s a tough competition and too many of our players haven’t improved enough to lift us further.

This is a myth. We aren’t the most talented list in the AFL anymore. We have 2 genuine forwards - Fritsch and Pickett. Everyone else forward of the ball is very young or NQR. 90% or our list has stayed the same or gone backwards in the last year. We are a 6-8 side. We haven’t innovated enough with our game plan, and have given sides far too much of a look at what we do, without enough variety. It sucks to admit, but it’s now pretty evident.

So my big take away from this game is that we should have a Didgeridoo player after goals in Doug Nichols round. The rest of the game can get in the bin.

Kings Birthday Sold Out
I just got an email from the club telling me how to forward my reserved seat tickets onto others if I couldn’t go. I think this is a great idea. I’ll be there, but I know some people can’t, and that way the seats are filled with Red and Blue. The club is really trying to get this right.

My eyes are on Richmond and Adelaide. They could both do us a solid this weekend.

This is the problem for most AFL supporters I reckon. The AFL views itself as being in direct competition with almost all other sports. As a result they’ve taken a very US centric ‘competition’ mindset - with a focus on growing the game with new audiences, and constantly staying in the headlines in order to block competitors from grabbing any media coverage. So that results in a media landscape that is overly sensationalistic, and/or overly simplistic. You mention Test Cricket, which I’d imagine isn’t viewed as a ‘gateway’ to the sport. That’s what T20 is. Sadly for us the AFL wants to be much more T20 in its approach.
