  1. Could we trade 18, 19 and 28 for 14 and 16? Is that a win win given how many players the pies have to take - we might be able to get the two that we have our eye on most.
  2. How has he made it into Vic - thought the border doesn't open until the 8th?
  3. Is it just me or does it seem like this years draft is a giant lottery? Obviously it always is but there seems to be about 30 names that could be a first rounder. Obviously there's a group in the top 5, and then after that there's about 20 names to fit into the next 10 and on it goes... Seems like it's not a bad year to have multiple picks in the top 30 (even with the academy / father son selections).... or (hopefully not for us) it could be a very even draft of low quality
  4. I think Sam will benefit from not having the number 1 defender in 2021. Will be interesting how this translates in terms of the targets that midfielders kick to* in 2021 - will he have less opportunities as he's not the main target. Having said that, I felt Fritsch was often a target going forward and had he kicked straight (prior to this year a very reliable kick) we would have looked much better. * this is assuming that our midfielders are kicking to targets and not blazing away.
  5. Disagree - we'd be getting him for a late draft pick. If it were at the expense of drafting some good talent in, then sure but it won't affect our early draft picks.
  6. Admittedly only seen highlights but don't see the resemblance with someone like petracca at all. I remember when petracca got drafted, he was heavier than most keyforwards (i think 8kg heavier than McCartin). Perkins may end up an explosive player but he's about 20kg lighter than Petracca was in his draft year at a simialr height!
  7. Not sure if people are aware but I think KK has retired - apparently on his instagram and the club page
  8. Thanks LH. Was kind of hoping we would draft 3 kids as a scatter gun approach might net someone who has slipped through this year. If what you say is true, they may also have their eyes on someone in the early teens and be prepared to swap 18 and 19 to get him knowing that at 28 we are still likely to land a player we would consider at 19. I think as others have stated, depending on how it plays out on draft night, a number of picks between 19 and 28 may end up being used as points for academy / father sons so there may not be a huge difference between 19 and 28 in the end.
  9. Do we really know this. Is this based on the fact that he was reportedly disappointed with his placing in the bnf or something else? That's all I've heard - which to me just shows he's a very competitive person. It might also show that the coaches are setting high expectations with him which may be unfair - but also may be what is required to get him to the next level. I thought Oliver had a lot of his best games this year against the lower teams as he had a bit more freedom and was able to explode away from the contest. Against many of the top teams, he was worn like a glove and scragged well before he got the ball and when he did get it his disposals were under so much pressure that he didn't hit targets. I feel like he needed more protection (mostly from the umpires upholding the rules) but it was disappointing we weren't really able to adjust to the tactics that good opposition teams used against him at the stoppages.
  10. As others have said I normally rate KM's draft analysis but thought his phantom draft prediction seemed off for us this given there seems to be a number of players around our picks that would suit our needs (wing, outside mid / small forward). Someone on bf obviously thought the same and asked KM about it - he wrote:
  11. Agree 100%. Don't people remember Salem was meant to be moving to the wing in early 2019 and it didn't work. Admittedly half the team was underdone at the start of 2019 but he didn't look like he belonged there - i think it might be due to his tank as you suggest. I think there's more chance of him succeeding as a half forward than a winger. I'm hoping we can find a draftee or 2 who has the tools to make this position their own - let them fight it out with Baker / Hunt for 2021. Some have suggested Rivers might be able to play this role. Did he play any junior footy there?
  12. Assuming we keep picks 18, 19 and 28 I think it's likely we will pick best available with the first pick. With 18 we'd go for the slider - if one of Perkins, Macrae, Cook, Nik Cox, Jack Carroll, etc manage to slip through 19 we'd probably look at any others that slipped through & otherwise get the best player available to fill the needs (wing, HFF, FP) with good skills and pace (ideally). So maybe Isaiah Winder, Bailey Lawry. It's going to be an exciting night!
  13. Would have loved to pickup Witherden - looks like we could have (if he wanted to come to us) for late picks. But definitely happy with the Mahoney deals esp re Preuss and Brown
  14. So (if we don't package our current draft picks for a higher pick) we could use 18, 19 and 28 pick a backup ruckman as a DFA and rookie someone else? Is that right?
  15. Knightmare on bigfooty was asked about who might be the best fits for the dees at 18,19 and 28. He responded with:
  16. Agree - I think we want a winger / good outside midfielder as a first priority. The fact that we didn't go after Phillips or Polec to me suggests we might have our eye on someone in the draft. Would also love to see us go after another pressure forward too.
  17. Wow, there's so many permutations! Thought the Roos would be keen on Logan McDonald - but us Melbourne supporters understand the sense of splitting the value of early picks (as the gun players never used to be picked there!). Would be great to keep pick 19 and package 18 and 28. On points value (obviously this isn't the main measurement to go by) it is worth 1662 points (equivalent of pick 7). Given the Dons have picks 6, 7 and 8, I wonder if having nabbed their two players at 6 and 7 would be willing to trade pick 8 if it means they can get two more picks in the top 30? Maybe some later picks involved as well.
  18. Part of me is surprised that we held onto all of Viney / Brayshaw / Harmes as much as I love them all. I think there would have to be a good chance that one of them or even Oliver or Petracca may seek midfield opportunities after next season if the midfield is similar which may get us back into the first round next year. But if it clicks and they all have good years then we probably don't need a first rounder next year anyway! Hell, if the bulldogs can fit that amount of talent into their midfield then surely we can find a way to make it work. Hopefully Yze can do it!
  19. Just pick 65 - so essentially a salary dump! If we had space would have loved to get a winger... oh well.
  20. Mahoney said they won't go for a backup ruck with Tmac staying on the list. Think trade for a player must be a chance as why did they do the deal with the lions otherwise?
  21. Doesn't make sense to me - Collingwood push out Treloar and Phillips due to salary cap issues and take in TMac (and pick 18) and pay 500-600k for him the next 2 years? For us, it clears our salary cap... but that's only needed if we're bringing someone in. Not sure if Phillips is a big enough fish to justify it? Having said that, I think we need a winger badly - don't have faith that Baker is the answer so maybe this is the price?
  22. While I was hoping we'd land some outside speed and class, I'm stoked to land BBB - especially when prior to the trade period I would have thought he would be worth at least a first round pick. I think having a proven goal kicker at the club will be enormous - great for the development of Weid and Jacko and will be good practice for our defenders who increasingly have to deal with forwards of around 200cm.
  23. But couldn't we have gone 28 + 31 + 43? This equals 1661 or pick 7.
  24. I'm confused. If 25 = 756 points, and pick 31 and 43 = 984 points, then if we're looking to trade with doggies, then we've gone backwards? Can someone please explain? Think I missed something.
  25. This is an incredible result if true - Mahoney has done it again! In terms of going after pick 14, probably means the Roos are still in the box seat. They now have 26, 30, 33. We have 28 and 31. Might go down to what they need to use on Stephenson. And if Stephenson goes, then it might open the door for a swap of TMac and Phillips
