CHANGES: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
Our small forwards don't defend, (chasing is not defending) so at a maximum we can only carry one of Melks, Bennel and Picket; noting none of these 3 present as a great marking target. Fritsch stays in because he does present and mark the ball (the goals will come) - therefore a potential dangerous matchup. Note he misses a lot of shots because he's taking them from the dead pocket for his foot - which is more about team play (leading patterns) that has now ruined his confidence for in front of goals. I like the idea of Viney forward to win the ground ball and play defensive/aggressive. Hannan can mark it, but must be more accountable otherwise ANB Dunkley should at least provide the real pressure required. Pickets enthusiasm I'd great but he chases more than tackles, and his tackles don't stick. He also runs past the ball, when it hits the ground.

CHANGES: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
Team selection should be about balance. We need to find a second tall (Frisch is a 3rd tall, not 2nd); one that can drae6a defender so Weids isn't double team. At the moment of all our current options, the only two that could adequately fill this role is May and Gawn. Either could work we just need to find someone that could do their role. Prues has been okay so that's possible; Omac maybe, but probably a better option is for Tmac to revert back to his days as fullback. With the ball coming to him and only needing to spoil it will likely build his confidence as well. A fit Tmac also had the tank to ru with Hogan.

Tom Lynch Incident (incl. Dimma vs The Ox)
It's very very simple, if you make contact to an opponent with your first, you get suspended for punching. Careless doesn't come into it, the only thing a player should be hitting with a close fist is the ball and if they can't do that then they don't deserve to be playing at that level. Ironically junior footballers can all achieve this when they want to. Unfortunately stomach punches and head spoils are becoming more and more common in juniors as well.

Is there a forward apart from Fritsch that's got more than 2 possessions?

GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Port Adelaide
Our kick out is easy to defend, as they know exactly where it's going and even if Gawn Mark's it, they've set up behind it.

We are not brave, leading to the pocket is the easy soft option, kicking it to the lead in the pocket is softer.

Oliver is actually a reasonable kick, he's just not a confident kick. Maybe if our midfielders worked harder off the ball to provide blocks, Sheppard, etc; similarly forwards have to lead to the right spots and at the right moment so that you can deliver that "good kick". There are so many variables. I'm sure for every bad an example a good one can be found. The bigger problem at the moment is that he rushes his disposals. Needs to wear a hit, but then there will be some that complains about him being caught. Note these are all similar things that have been directed at Jones for years.

Death by the pre-tackle
Then we spread the news, send it to the various footy shows; they are always looking for content. Maybe Titus can make a joke of it raising its profile.

Midfield blues
From memory he mostly hit to the right positions as it landed in our hands first, but they were already grabbing our player resulting in a spill which there (Lions) other midfielders then quickly swept away. They worked far far better as a collective. Our midfielders seemed to have been spoilt by having the ball given to them, rather than finding it in a chaos (unpredictable) situation.

The reality is our midfield was well beaten. Brisbane read the ball better of the ruck, out-pressured us, were cleaner than us, and moved faster than us. Our midfielders shouldn't be figuring heavily in the votes, but as individuals you can justify they had a good game (which if you think about, is probably part of the problem). I found it hard to leave them out as well. The Lions also played the umpires better than us, with 10 meter kicks and grabbing/tackling players before possession of the ball.

CHANGES: Rd 08 vs Brisbane
Tmac I'm, VDB rested. Tmac can play his role and also provides the flexibility of giving us a tall back or tall forward option.

Steven May, Time for a change?
It doesn't matter who we have forward until we correct the ball movement from the midfield. We are not brave enough to spot a target leading UP the ground but only with a 1 -2 meter gap on the Defender. We will instead hit up a leading target who has 10 meters on their opponent into a dead pocket. Note the opposition teams protect the dangerous area of the forward 50 and allow space in the areas offering low percentage shots on goal, with a little implied pressure even these opportunities convert to a a 50-50 contest for them. Then when the forward inevitably misses a couple (not all) of these difficult shots their confidence drops and any easier shots carries additional pressure.
