Can't agree sorry. As horrible as we finished this year we are not a bottom 4 team. Academy picks don't make any difference to us as they were never available in the open pool anyway. Next year we have the ability to trade two years in advance to get back into the first round. Failing that, if we do have a dumpster fire year then we will easily get two first rounders for Petracca and potentially a good pick for Oliver (pending form on and off the field) if one or both want out and we want to reset down the youth pathway. Better to get as much quality kids in early and have that extra years development. I'm looking forward to seeing the possibility of two midfielders (or whatever type of player we select) to develop alongside Windsor and Tholstrup as our next wave of elite players.

Essentially we are interested in one of freos picks with our f1. May not happen if freo use two current first rounders for Bolton. We've been "blown out of the water" for suns pick 13 by other clubs.

Was hoping it was a third first round pick somehow.

The Bombers have first access to small forward Kako in November's Telstra AFL Draft because he is part of the club's Next Generation Academy. Rival clubs can place a bid on Kako at any time on draft night and the Bombers would then have to give up its next pick as part of its effort to match the bid and bring the young forward to the club. Twomey believes a bid for Kako could come before the Bombers' first pick, with St Kilda, Melbourne and Richmond all interested. That would mean the Bombers would lose their pick 9 when they match the bid. Instead, Twomey says the Bombers may look to do a deal to get ahead of a bid, which would net them a player at the top end of the draft as well as Kako. "I think it's precarious for the Bombers," he said on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio on Tuesday. "They're at nine, he's had strong interest from St Kilda, Melbourne and Richmond, the clubs that will likely hold picks five, six, seven, eight before the Bombers enter the draft. "I've said this a few times, I stand by it, I'm all for Essendon using a pick to get up ahead of it, even if it means using a future first-round pick to get in really early in the draft. "Would you offer up nine and a future one to get up to three for West Coast? Would nine be too far back for the Eagles to push? What you do there though, next year when you're without a pick, you've got two first-rounders to buy back in and that gives you some flex. Richmond are going to have a stack of picks. I wonder if there is appeal from the Tiges to get pick 2 from North for 6 and 10? Tigers take the first two kids and will still potentially have a couple of late first round picks as well. North get Armstrong and Tauru. I'm not sure I'd do that if I was Richmond though.

4d chess time. We threaten to pick kako, then offer essendon our f1 with 40 and 53 (to help them match a bid) for pick 9. Alternatively, we trade 5 and 45 for 9, 31 and f1. Trade one of our f1st for freos pick 11. End up with 9, 11, f1 (ours or bombers) and 28, 31 and 40 to try and upgrade further. Yes I'm day 1 trade period bored.

I would hope it would be pick 10 or 11 but yes, f1 for pick 18 is a risky play.

Presuming this falls over if they use picks 10 and 18 on Bolton.

Nice post. Lalor is being talked about as a potential landing spot for Richmond's first pick. If he fell to 5 I feel he would be be a player JT would like and we would call his name out. Tough, strong contested mid with good skills and some explosive athletic traits. I hope he falls to our pick. My top selections for us would be Lalor O'Sullivan Langford Reid Draper Berry Travaglia Smith Allen Hynes Lindsay Smillie I rate Armstrong extremely highly but not sure that's where we need to be spending our top 5 pick. He could pair up very well with JvR, but not sure our FD are writing of Jefferson just yet. Unless we see Jefferson as being capable of playing in the backline at AFL level and Armstrong head and shoulders above him, I can't see us selecting a 3rd key forward in 4 years given our midfield needs. Tauru similarly is an exciting prospect. Ultra competative and can play just about anywhere. This is going to be a really interesting draft with lots of surprises I feel. Kako being linked to us at 6 is one. For all we know players like Smith, Reid, Smillie may go top 5 or they may go late first round.

Are we still in this? Future first for GC pick 13 is more enticing than Collingwood and Carlton can offer GC. We could then offer 13 and 28 for Houston. GWS and Richmond the ones we have to beat I think for GC #13.

Is that allowed? I thought there were still rules in place for future pick trading. Unless they've changed it recently it was that if you traded a f1 then you couldn't trade any other picks in subsequent rounds. Conversely, if you traded a f2, you could trade as much as you like in later future rounds but you couldn't trade your f1 unless you replaced it with another f1.

Kako is an Essendon NGA player. Given they've been desperate for a high quality small forward I can't see them not matching a bid.

Like most years, we are seemingly on the hunt to have a better draft hand this year and have been linked to Gold Coasts pick 13 and Lions pick 20. With FA compo for some players released today, we potentially have other picks to target. However this has also strengthened our rivals hand to upgrade their picks if they decide to do that. GWS now have 15, 16 (perryman) and 21 (Cumming). Saints have picks 7, 8 (battle) Freo have picks 10, 11, 18 Swans have picks 19, 22 We have currently picks 5, 40, 48, 53 and 64. Pick 25 (now 28) was suggested as a possible trade outcome for ANB but Peatling nominating crows perhaps complicates that. We have allegedly already put our future 1st on offer for the Suns pick 13. Can we can get another top 20 pick by moving on our later picks to Brisbane? A draft hand of 5, 13 and 20 would be an amazing outcome in a strong even draft.
