CHANGES: Rd 14 vs St Kilda
Out: Preuss, Sparrow In: Gawn, Rivers Rivers should never have been dropped in the first place. Put him into the half back role and have Harmes run through as the 5th midfielder splitting his time in the forward half.

Tom McDonald
Maybe this is more out of hope than anything else but I reckon Tom is on the improve and was close to clunking a few marks in dangerous spots. Wouldn't be surprised if his form picks up over the next few weeks and kicks a few. While no where near his best from 2018, he's contesting in the air a lot better and he's timing his run and jump at the ball much better as well. Can only hope that him and Weideman are starting to understand and work well with each other in the forward line. Having said all that, it is clear that we need to start planning a long term KPF partnership with Weideman post McDonald. If it's not Petty then I imagine we will have to look at trade or the draft.

The Need for Outside Midfielders
I wonder if we have a solution for this on our list in Mitch Hannan. He has the attributes to be a good winger with speed, height and ability overhead and he is often clean with the footy with a neat kick on his left. The question mark would probably be his endurance base to cover the ground back and forth like Langdon does. Currently the main issue I have with his game is that he often goes missing at length and I think that isn't helped by playing in our forward 50 where we have similar mid sized forwards in Melksham and Fritsch that are often used as hit up targets. Perhaps Hannan to a wing could improve our dynamic in the forward half while solving our outside run and spread? Worth a shot at least in my view.

The 2020 Trade Period
I wouldn't mind if we had a look at the following players. Zac Fisher - only recently back into their team and has played just the 3 games this year. Has pace, unsure on his skill execution but seems decent based on the limited stuff I've seen of him. Lochie O'brien - Hasn't played a game all year, don't believe he is injured but may be wrong about that. This one is more from memory of him being a reputed excellent kick on his preferred left and playing that outside role. Perhaps he has other limitations preventing him from cracking into their senior team? Former pick 10. Paddy Dow - Former pick 3 with pace, has only played the one game this year and is not listed as injured or named in the team/emergencies. Not sure whats going on here? Perhaps returning from injury? Darcy Tucker - Has spent most of this year injured I believe but is a Vic boy and might want to return home from freo. Excellent distributor of his left. Freo would ask for more than we could give most likely. Xavier O'Halloran - fighting for a spot in a stacked GWS midfield. The limited stuff I've seen of him indicated that he is a good kick of the footy and seems composed. Don't know too much more about him. Jye Caldwell - Seems highly rated in footy circles and has been speculated on here a few times as well. Again will face an uphill battle trying to permanently crack into their best 22, particularly with Green to be developed in the coming years as well. Ian Hill - Small forward from GWS, compliment Kozzie in the other pocket?? Jeremy Sharp - Going by the "inside the draft" video we seemed to be hoping GC would take him to allow Rivers to be free for us, perhaps indicating that we don't rate him? Or perhaps we simply rated Rivers higher and would be keen on acquiring Sharp to join former teammates Jackson and Rivers. Predominant outside winger. In his first year so would more be one to be on the radar for the future. Brayden Fiorini - Used to really rate him, seemed to be carrying GC midfield along with Swallow over the past few season. Now appears out of favour. Might want to return to Vic if he sees limited opportunities? Mathew Ling - Spent most of his first two years at the Swans injured, debuted this year and played three consecutive games before being dropped. Lefty with pace. I don't watch a heap of games outside the dees so some input or feedback about some of the players from either their junior days or AFL exposure would be welcome. I've tried to target players that can play that outside/wing type role and looked at ones that, in theory, wouldn't cost greatly. I also am largely unaware of their contract status.

Would be nice to get an update on Petty. Surgery was close to two months ago and haven't heard anything since. Hopefully he is progressing in rehab and on track to tackle day 1 of preseason. I believe he's out of contract as well so would be good to sign him up before Adelaide come sniffing.- Site Issues?
Well damn, looks like I won't be getting any more points.- To Hell & Back Again?
I liked it as well. Nice bit of content for fans to enjoy in this strange season. For those that don't know they've actually done 4 of these videos now starting from round 6. I would say that someone in the social media team read the room and thought fans were furious about our Port Adelaide game and held off producing the next video until they could show something in a more positive light. Here's the other videos for those that are interested. Round 6 vs Gold Coast Round 7 vs Hawthorn Round 8 vs Brisbane- Stats Files - 2020
That's terrific, thanks for the detailed response Rusty. You must have put countless hours into these stats, posters such as yourself that produce high quality work make Demonland worth reading. Think it's time I paid for a subscription to Demonland. Isolation would be so much worse without this forum.- Stats Files - 2020
Apologies Rusty if this has already been explained but where are these numbers derived from? I could be a bit daft but I can't make any sense of these random numbers without context. What stats combine to create a weighted score? Is it a combination of effective disposal, metres gained, score involvements etc...? Is there a bench mark figure for what players should be attaining? Is it affected by position, i.e will mids will have a higher number due to overall possession numbers but dour defenders and pressure forwards score lower. For example would that mean a "good" score for a mid might be >3 where as a small forward >1? What are the poor, average, good benchmarks for players and positions across the league and across and how do our players compare? Apologies again and I'm certainly don't expect you to do the leg work in some of those questions I asked, just trying to wrap my head around the theory behind the numbers.- Fixture 2020 (COVID Edition)
That's my train of thought as well.- Fixture 2020 (COVID Edition)
Surely its just a reference to when that game will be scheduled, not in addition to. If we have another compressed part of the fixture then my read is that we will play Essendon in either round 14, 15 or 16. Still just playing three games while other teams have their "byes."- Gawn In Doubt for Crows?
Well, 90% of Adelaides preparation to date for our game has probably gone to waste. That's probably the only positive that I can see.- CHANGES: Rd 10 vs Adelaide
In: AVB, Bennell, Tomlinson, ANB Out: Jackson, Pickett, Jones, Hannan I like the kids, but with a heavy workload block in their first year they will probably be due for a break. Jones seems ineffectual if he's not in the guts, sad to see but I not sure where I would slot him into our team. Hannan can have some great cameos and apply good pressure, but far too often he goes missing for significant portions of the game. Brayshaw and Harmes very lucky. As is 90% of our list from the Port game to be honest. Rivers, Smith and Jetta could/should be considered for an extra back rotation. My preference would be Rivers. Also wouldn't be surprised if Jones stays and Sparrow gets the chop, although I hope for his sake he gets some continuity and doesn't become a scapegoat when all the senior players around him failed so badly.- GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Port Adelaide
Is it too much to ask for a competitive game week in week out?- GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Port Adelaide
Seen a few one on one contests and the next three to four players arriving in support have all been from Port. Either the club erred in thinking we could recover and perform off a 4-day turn-around or we are mentally weak as p*** with no work rate and gave up half way through the first quarter. Also doesn't help that our decision making and execution has been disgraceful.- MFC Trade Talk 2020
Butters would be my ideal target but doubt anyone has a shot at getting him out of Port anytime soon. Given our history of tracking and targeting players we've liked from their respective draft years (Lever, Langdon), I wonder if we will have a crack at luring Butters or Georgiades in the future. Another thought is if we might see ourselves try and move up the draft this year considering we have hawthorn's 2nd round pick and two 4th rounders from blues and freo. Plenty of teams might look to accumulate points for their academy or father/son selections.- NON MFC: Round 06
Still want those numbers Tarax?- NON MFC: Round 06

I like the changes. Makes the team more balanced in my view. Hopefully it shows on Saturday night.- Simon knows what is wrong?
Are the players doing what Simon says? Because if not they're out.- Proud to Belong, Proud to Give
Ended up buying a Jumper as well at the draft experience. Figured I get nerdy enough about it during the off season so might get some good insights into how it all works and what players we rate. Assuming I don't get told not to divulge any pertinent information I will try and give a run down of the night.- POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs Richmond
- POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs Richmond
Well today was yet another frustratingly familiar experience where poor skill execution and inefficient use of the ball forward of 50 was the staple of our play. With the large bulk of our best 22 now 4 years + into the system, we should be seeing more consistency of effort, decision making and skill execution from this group. Whats more worrying is the development/output of our players all seeming to stagnate with only Petracca showing signs of improving on his previous year. Having said that, I believe a lot of our deficiencies could be addressed at the selection table. 1. Bring in a second tall KPF. Be it Brown or Weideman to not only help with a target inside forward 50 but to help with representation on the wings for the bailout down the line kicks and relieve Gawn in the ruck. This will allow Gawn time to rest up forward on occasion where he has proven to be a threat. Just on Gawn, I can barely recall him taking a contested mark this year, a real feature of his game and one that can seriously influence an outcome of a match. Having an extra tall in our line up can give Gawn time to push forward and back and influence the contest there. 2. Bring in a second genuine KPB. I had hoped for Petty to be in this role but due to injury that's not longer possible. We recruited Lever as a star intercept 3rd floating defender who would regular intercept mark and control the backline. Now I don't think he is actually performing badly at the moment as a key back, but I believe we could further utilize his skill sets by bringing in another defender to perform this role. At the moment that person is O.Mac and while he doesn't get much love here I feel a May, Omac, Lever combo is a more potent defense than a May, Smith, Lever combo. 3. Smith to the forward line or dropped. I see what the football department see in him from an athleticism point of view, however he just doesn't have the footy IQ in defense. Perhaps he needs time to get familiar with his role but he is costing us a lot currently with his decisions to fly at certain contests and poorly checking his man. Up forward he could become a real handful with his ability to spring and mark at its highest point as well as bringing his speed to create defensive pressure in the forward 50. Unfortunately we have a lot of medium forwards at the moment so would be fighting Hannan, AVB, Melksham, Fritsch for a spot. If he is to be persisted with, I would happily trial him ahead of Hannan and AVB. 4. Harmes and Brayshaw to get more midfield time. These two play their best footy on-ball and Harmes is being absolutely wasted down back. I don't have the answer to how you would allocate appropriate midfield time to all of Oliver, Viney, Petracca, Brayshaw and Harmes, but I feel the balance isn't right and we are under utilising players in this area of the ground. These are just my opinions. I can't imagine Goodwin will survive the year if 2020 continues on its trajectory towards a 2019 like result. We are tired and angry and I think the board knows we are running out of patience. - Four Injured Horsemen
