I have no doubt they will trade out pick 4, apologies for not making that clear. My belief is that they will trade pick 4 which will net them 2000 odd points plus a future selection(s). There will be enough competition for pick 4 to ensure that happens in my opinion.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread

Nick Bryan (essendon ruck), Harrison Jones and Tarryn Thomas have all re-signed for their clubs. Edit: Thomas hasn't re-signed but has committed to seeing out his final year of his current contract in 2024 -

This is why I think it will be harder for us to get the Gold Coast pick than some think. Many clubs will be able to accrue enough points for this year and as far as I'm aware, no clubs are restricted from trading out their future first next year. Alot will come down to a clubs risk appetite and philosophy to trading futures. Another factor making this a competitive auction is the reduced list sizes and rules that only mandates 1 national draft selection. Many clubs will be looking to only take 1 or 2 picks max and promote a rookie(s) to make the mandatory 3 list changes. As a result, nearly every club could justify trading out the majority of their draft capital to get a top 4 pick, particularly in a draft that is said to drop off significantly after the first 6-7 selections (they say this regularly though).

Can cross off the list. Has re-signed with the Suns for another 4 years.

Would suit us perfectly I would have thought pending he passes a fitness test. Fills in that missing established key forward role that we have been searching for this year in T-Mac, BB and Petty. Should play high level footy until 33 paired with JvR which will give Jefferson plenty of time to develop and in theory be ready to take over best 22 responsibilities when he's hitting 22/23yrs. Does Richmond actually want to get rid of him though? And I'm fairly certain his contract was back ended so could be coming with a $1mil + price tag. -
Jefferson smothered the ball and centred a kick to the goalsquare leading to an AMW goal at the 8.15 minute mark of the last quarter. Not sure if he had any other possessions go uncredited. I only watched parts of the 3rd and 4th and didn't see him have any more of the ball then.

Best way I can put it is that Gold Coast already have the points they need to match bids for all their academy players. If they choose to, they could keep pick 4 and match a bid at pick 2. Won't matter either way to them. So why would gold coast hand a rival a premium pick without any benefit to them? Remembering we couldn't crack a top 5 pick last year even with an offer if 3 x first round picks. That's why people are suggest combinations of 15, 24, 34 and F1 etc. Covers their academy bid points for this year while adding an attracive pick for next year to make it worth their while. Presumably they will have further academy players coming through in 2024 so they are further incentivised to add draft capital for the future.

I liked Josh Sinn in his draft year, half back left footer with excellent pace. Has struggled for opportunity this year in the senior team. Contracted until 2025.

I didn't watch the entire game but I definitely saw Jefferson have a kick leading to an AMW goal. These stats have been a bit dodgy throughout the year. Didn't do much else up on a wing that I saw though.

As per ChaserJs reply. I believe Cooper Simpson was also in attendance then as well. Doesn't mean much come draft time.

I guess the argument is the lack of match fitness guys like Hibberd, Tomlinson, Jordon, Spargo etc will have if they are required to play in the afl team. We make prelim and those guys won't have had a real game in over a month. We can do intraclubs but there's an element of dancing with your cousin there while injury risk still remains high. I can see arguments both ways.

Hard to do a phantom with academy selections. GCs pick 4 will change hands but for the purpose of this exercise seems to have been omitted from this phantom draft altogether.

Toby Bedford would be the best comparison but he probably didn't get the same starting 22 opportunity that Henry had.

Parish has just re-signed with the bombers until 2028 -
I'd imagine that due to the bye we don't need to submit an official injury report until next Tuesday.

We could luck out or get screwed over here. If North get over compensated with pick 3 for McKay (hopefully not happening) And We can't get our hands on Gold Coasts pick 4 Our pick 5 turns into pick 7 (post Walter bid) and we will most likely miss out on all of Curtin, Duursma, McKercher, Watson and obviously Reid. I think this is unlikely but is a possibility. I have faith our team will make the most of our hand and get at least one of the aforementioned players. -

Christian Petracca and Jack Viney named in All Australian squad

Think you have your wires crossed. Merrett made the team, Langford did not. -
Possibly. They would have to be pretty confident of finishing high up the ladder, which they are every chance to do. Having said that, if they're expecting him to be a top rated pick then they probably want to bank as many points possible next year like gold coast did this year. If he's top 3, and they trade out their future first rounder, they're looking at using all of their subsequent picks and still being in points deficit. Edit: having said all that I'm sure they can get creative and bring in those extra points via trade or pick swaps

Pretty sure crows have pick 9. Depends on how many picks they want to take to the draft really. They may only take two players and upgrade a rookie. Then they could look at 9 and 20 (2381) for pick 4 (2034). Leaves them with 4 and 24. I think we'll offer a future pick as well. Will Adelaide?
-
Some other candidates to trade with. GWS: picks 6, 12 then 50 Geelong: picks 7 then nothing until 81. Carlton: picks 14 then nothing until 64 WB: picks 10, 17 (may looks to ship out one of these for a croft bid)

I forgot about him. He does look great but I perhaps wouldn't put him in the same category as Walter in his under-age year. Obviously a lot can change over the course of their top age year. They may very well go for it, but they run the risk of pulling a Collingwood who infamously traded out their future pick thinking Daicos would go at pick 1. Collingwood crashed to 17th with GWS the beneficiaries, using their pick 2 on Callaghan. Pies could have had both players with Daicos sliding to pick 4 for various reasons.
